my first explicit manhua ever. the men in chinese period dramas are SO HOT (minus the qing dynasty, sorry the half shaved look needs a real upgrade for me to ooga) and i NEEDED a bl so bad, esp one that subverted tropes. back then i wished it would eventually develop into romance but now i know it's never happening lol. but it's in a league of its own even today bc all the historical danmei adaptations now have relationship dynamics that are still stuck in 1997 which their translucent jade skin shorter feminine bottoms dressed in white and the taller cheeky thick-browed slighty more tan skinned tops dressed in black.

it had the vibe of a chinese story in that it suddenly turned into a procedural at the end. i thought it was just gonna be about martial arts so when the weird power stuff popped up it took me by surprise. the story focuses on the couple’s love story but i can’t help but feel salty at the hobknobs being used as canon fodder willy nilly and that the mogyu(??) group was ok w that. didn’t like how much of a twink the uke looked.

i LOVE to hate on this and talk shit about it practically every week but joke's on me bc i'm still here waiting for new chapters to drop
