Omowaseburi na Kimi no Tonari
The seme’s ex was literally such an interesting character! I understood why they both ended up in the place they did, and neither disrespected the other. I also appreciated the fact that there was a level of realism going on in the uke’s acceptance of his own feelings. He seemed to acknowledge the fact that he felt strongly about this person, but couldn’t reconcile those feelings with what it would be like to be in a same-sex relationship (which is fair, since he had likely never felt that way towards a guy, and being in a relationship with someone generally includes sex). Finally, he ended up acting on those feelings and deciding to choose the unknown for this other person.
Day Off
Section chief (hedgehog) and subordinate (cockatoo) fall in love at the office, in an office romance. They struggle with certain aspects of their relationship, but this is a mostly fluffy manga about two cute people madly in love with each other. The scenes of them are light and mostly contain warmth, depth, and emotion. There isn't much plot to be had, but it's not at the expense of reality or cuteness. ~Chapter 32.7
The God of Calamity Wishes for Naught
Kazoku Ni Narouyo
Gay couple end up getting married in a ceremony that includes their parents. Talks about them parenting the daughter of their childhood friend, Ayumu, and their family life as she travels abroad.
Kurayami Ni Strobe
This is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve read. Timeless, warm, filled with characters who love each other but have insecurities and the fragile feeling of what will become of your relationship once you change it. Hayakawa Nojiko isn’t one of my favorite authors, but she really nailed it this time. The watercolors are beautiful, and the effects of the paneling that shifts into metaphor and foreshadowing are fantastic and retain a sense of depth. Perfect for a day when you’re wishing to immerse yourself in something beautiful.
This Can't Be Love
Actually pretty funny, but sometimes crossing the line. However, the dynamic between him and the uke is pretty different in the fact that I feel like the seme respects his personality (though not his boundaries). Despite being omegaverse, this is pretty good. ~ Chapter 8 Update: Mmm...chapter 7 was a little off. I'm gonna keep reading it though, but I don't like the creepy, possessive stuff and the promise of violence if something "wrong" was done.
