I had such high expectations for this… I live for the mafia world, dark or fluff, but this was just too romanticized, literally. Lawyer’s character isn’t self-depreciating enough to simply forgive Cesar just like that, yet here we are, and I’m mourning that. After that dark-twist-that-has-forever-ruined-Cesar-for-me, there was still potential for some serious character growth, but it all just got rushed, and was wrapped up with a pretty little bow instead of the ragged bow it should be, all things considered. It’s a good read I guess, but I personally find it to be more a failed mix of mafia fluff and that beautiful mafia angst. Maybe the novel achieved this, I haven’t read it, but this didn’t do it for me.
