Kid isn't his. It's a happy ending between the main couple. Readers were happy with this ending, not crying about Stockholm syndrome about the "pitiful poor" FL ending up with a "crap" ML, so there probably is a good reason for all this. Few comments were complaining about how frustrating and weak the FL was. This feels like a textbook misunderstanding novel. So unimaginative. But then again, just watch as people in this thread continue to comment about how scummy the ML is and how pitiful “perfect” FL is. Unlike others, I won’t clog up this spoiler thread and comment blind speculations that will only mislead spoiler readers about their reasoning since I don’t know the specifics behind the ML or FL. Based on majority of reader reception to the ending, I highly doubt ML is even a bad guy or even cheated... unless you hold the crimes of a first love that occurred years before his marriage against him? - Spoiler: Some major spoilers (from user riftanisprecious) -The child isn't his. He never slept with his first love. She lied about all of it. But since he was drunk that day he thought he might have slept with her. -FL and ML divorce for 6 years and it is filled with long road of misunderstandings and drama. If I remember correctly, it takes around 80 chapters in novel (Novel ends on 170 chapter) for them to reunite. -Initally when she asks for divorce, he goes yandere on and lock her up in a room before letting her go, don't remember this scene clearly. -ML, FL, and ex were best friends. It is that case of ML falling for beautiful girl (ex) and FL falling for ML but staying quiet. Somewhere along there marriage ML falls for FL as well. -ML's first love was cheating on him with his brother. The son is also his. The ex lover and her father are pretty scheming. She is like Rose from Lady to Queen. -The first love was forced to married someone from west so ML married FL. He promised FL he won't cheat on her and he didn't but ex was scheming. She goes batshit crazy when FL and ML reunite and is not a good person. I only pity her son. -All in all ML is not that great but he is not a cheating scumbag and this is mostly filled with his regrets and misunerstandings. Communication is the key guys. -FL will also have a son. She was pregnant when they divorced. Ex lover will try to kill them both when ML and FL reunite. Cause turns out ML didn't take ex lover as the new wife after divorce. -About the FL, don't worry she won't be easily forgiving. She stays in hiding by changing her appearance so ML cannot find her and her son. *Sigh* and this was suggested when I was looking for stuff similar to Remarried Empress. The child edmund is not ML's child. The kid is ml's dead half brothers kid. ML wasn't in a physical relationship with lize whatever her name is. Before she left for the western kingdom she begged him to sleep with her he refused so she made him drunk af and made it seem like they slept together (that's what I think it said from MTL). ML remarried FL and their kid carlisle is super sweet. They have a happy ending so idk why the tragedy tag. After the divorced paper got approve, she alrdy packed her things and want to go, but before left she visited an unnamed palace which was raymond previos place where he spent his childhood as illegitimate child, that palace full of raymond and his mother memories. MC will flashback her memories about them, and stop in dead tree. That tree has special meaning to raymond, so MC tried to grow it back. MC has magic which can regrow dead plants, but she hide her ability (magic) bcs she thinks it doesn't usefull like other attack ability. She is hoping that tree will grow healthier and remains there bcs she will be not there anymore and no one will take care of it (raymond abandoned that tree and palace after his mother died). And then she leave the imperial palace - Spoiler: How raymond realize his feelings (from user Diraaroo) raymond, lize, and edmond eat tgt. Raymond didnt focus at all he is thinking what if the one who eat with him is ellie and their child, girl or boy, they must resembles ellie alot. But in the middle of dayfreaming, lizze call him and ask him to give edmond attention. After that lize and raymond talk. Lize said that raymond changed. She confess that she still in love with him even after got force married other man. And she give a birth of his child. Meanwhile ellie alrdy left empire and go to lunt kingdom. Lize is the one who told raymond that ellie left for long journey. Raymond shocked, but still calm because it is said a journey, so she will be back and has nothing to do with him. Skip to night, raymond got a dream about ellie and how he killed crown prince. He is awaken and go to take a walk. He looks a the night and see ellie's fav star, he know its ellie fav but cant remember the name. He keeps walking and go to his mother palace (remember about my prev spoiler?) and he cant believe that palace look well taken care. He asked his assistant if it is his work, and his assistant said that it was ellie work. He has a flashback about his childhood there, and realize he come to a place full of memories with ellie. And there is green leave blown away around palace, he got shocked that tree is a live. He know that tree is dead after his mother dead. So he know ellie is the one grow it back (so raymond alrdy know about ellie power bcs ellie did the same to a radish). He kneel down in front of that tree and admit his feeling, that he loves ellie.. raymond immediately go to duke croft mansion (ellies house) in the middle of night (he go right after saw that tree), and ask to meet with ellie. Duke come out and look at him, but there is no ellie, ray ask where is ellie, he want to tell something to her. Duke said, he can't meet ellie. But ray insist to meet ellie, even confess to duke that he loves ellie, but late to realize his feeling because he got to familiar with ellie and didnt know that it is love. Duke said that "like what you said your majesty, it is too late. Ellie has left empire". Ray said, dont joke, she just going into a long trip right? When will she back?. Duke said that she will not come back, even duke will never see her again. Ray yelled at duke. Duke said, just let ellie go, it is the best for her, and he alrdy take illegitimate child as a prince. So ellie make a wish to have happy life with her child. And its skip into 6 years later. at first ellie want to start living in rural area in lunt kingdom, but it is hard to make a money, so she decide to move into the capital of lunt kingdom and become a florist. She used her magic ofc. duke is often exchange letter with ellie for every 3 month, but lately she doesn't get any letter from her father and there is no news from the empire. Ellie is getting worried and try to find out whats happened to her father. It back to raymond office, after 6 years he keep searching for ellie in every continent, but get nothing, but the longing to take her back keep him to try more. And here we go, lize dad come to the office. He ask ray to give a punishment for duke croft. He said that it alrdy too long to postpone the punishment. But ray said he has a hand for that problem too if they demand to punish duke croft, since the evidence still not valid (seems like marquis try so hard to drag ellies family down) - Spoiler: Edmond birthday party (from user Diraaroo) Chapter 23. lize invite Ellie for Edmund birthday party right after divorce being announced. Ellie come to that party and meet raymond there. Lize trying hard to show edmond and raymond closeness to ellie. And lize will dance with raymond. Ellie just see they dance tgt, but after that come a man asking ellie for dance. And raymond look at them with piercing eyes. Seems like he got jealous. And that man, isnt the first time met ellie, ellie find him familiar. And seems like that guy is from easter country. But i cant really understand bcs MTL is so fucking hard. after the dance, ellie feels sick and want to throw up bcs of food in the banquet. Raymond got worried, and asking if she is fine. Ellie choose to leave the party earlier. Then raymond will follow her. And ask who is the man dancing with her. Ellie doesnt want to answer. She thought raymond jealous but throw away that thought because she know raymond doesn't love her. So edmond birth day party happened before ellie left empire - Spoiler: Lize brother (from user Diraaroo) Lize has brother (idk if blood related or not). His name 리온 (rion |mtl said leon). He asked lize is edmond really emperor son. Lize got mad. Rion ask a money from lize. Seems like rion know the truth about edmond real dad. - Spoiler: Jeremy (from user Diraaroo) Jeremy is guy who asked ellie to dance in edmond birthday party. And raymond jealous of him. Ellie doesnt know jeremh true identity, but they become friends cause both of them leave empire and go to lunt kingdom in the same ship. Actually there is jeremy pov around chapter 20-30, but in that part i cant understand at all because mtl is such a mess. Just wait until the translation come out - Spoiler: Why raymond cant find ellie and her child in 6 years after their divorced (from user Diraaroo) the reason why carlisle hair is changed because duke croft give them 2 magic bracelets to change hair and eyes color (so raymond doesnt know that carlisle is his son). Ellie also used it, her hair change into pink and her eyes into brown. Thats why for 6 years ray cant find them - Spoiler: Raymond and edmond (from user Diraaroo) Edmond become first prince of empire, and he visit raymond in his office. They were talking. Edmond really yearn for affection of ray. Ray looking at edmond and see his black hair which is royal family features but he feels weird. He thought maybe he doesnt have fatherhood affection at all becaus he didnt receive from last emperor too. It is happened before raymond realize his feeling. Raymond try to investigate about edmond birth, and what happen when lize went to western kingdom. So here is a letter about investigation. i dont really get that part, but the marquis (lize dad) secretly sent midwife to western palace. So lize gave birth in secret and after that take the baby out from there. And the investigator feel it is weird, seems like lize abandon (or maybe hidden) the baby). And he ask to investigate it more - Spoiler: Ellie met Raymond in the jail (from user Diraaroo) ellie will meet with raymond in jail where duke croft being held. Raymond didnt recognize her appearance but there her voice familiar. Raymond let her go and meet the duke. After back to palace, raymond still think about the girl he bumped with and there is possibility that she was ellie using magic bcs he know ellie wont let her father alone in this situation, and ask his assitant called david to find about her. - Spoiler: At musical performance (concert) - (from user Diraaroo) ellie will take carlisle to a musical performance. Carlisle has an interest at music and playing instruments same like raymond. Ellie said that carlisle resemble her face, but his preference is come from raymond. Like raymond leave his trait in his child (ofc he is the one who make that child with you ellie). - Spoiler: Ellie meet lize (from user Diraaroo) ellie meet lize, and try to hide carlisle. But lize doesn't recognize her. Ellie heard the conversation between lize and other lady still call lize "lady". It is alrdy 6 years but the title didnt change. Ellie found out that lize isnt an empress. Other lady ask lize why she isnt empress yet? Even after gave a birth to emperor child? Is it a rumor true about emperor is so sensitive about empress news who left country? Did he cant forget her?. Ellie cant believe it, because untill the last time raymond say he wont love her, but now they said ray cant forget her. lize brushed it off and said it just baseless rumour, since in the fact the relationship between emperor and ellie wasnt good. - Spoiler: Duke Droit (from user Diraaroo) so there is another dukedom beside croft family in egrita empire. Duke droit (드로이트) is one of former emperor and crown prince follower. he believed that pure blood has a highest position and cant accept raymond as he is illegitimate child. and after raymond take the crown, duke droit lose his power. and this duke has a plan to take down raymond. Lize and her father have work together with him (seems like he know that edmond isnt ray son because he despite ray, why should he help edmond to secure his position in royal family). additional info jeremy know that lize isnt a good person. she may looks innocent out side and like a gentle woman , but her heart is spiteful. she will cut away everything that hinder her way forward. Jeremy is also known duke detroit, and even tell him to not trust marquis shios (lize dad) also lize herself. I dont know what relationship between jeremy and duke droit. but for sure jeremy is a good guy, he try to help lize and carlisle. - Spoiler: Jeremy true identity (from user Diraaroo) Jeremy is duke droit son. He called him father when he found out that the duke hanged in his bedroom. - Spoiler: Lize's plan (from user Diraaroo) So she is trying to kill ellie and carlisle by burning them in a mansion, but will blame duke droit for that crime. she also make it as duke droit who made the trap and lead both of ellie and carlisle to die. but her plan is failed because ray saved them. So she asked her underling (called Lilla, idk who s|he is) to kill duke droit and make it as a suicide. - Spoiler: Edmond and Ellie (from user Diraaroo) Edmond come to Empress palace a few days after the announcement of ellie taken back empress seat and carlisle become 2nd prince. Edmond act properly like a crown prince because he get a lesson and expect to be the next emperor before carlisle get into palace. Ellie feels bad because she will be the one who stop edmond to get the crown. Ellie treat him well, and talk about how the palace still the same like in the past. He ask about her condition. She replied that she is getting better and Edmond must be surprise that she take empress seat and have half brother. Edmond said he was liltle surprised, but alrdy know that his father (ray) was waiting for someone even said that there is no one who can touch the empress palace. He also surprised that the one his father waiting for is former empress. There was a mix of tension and awkwardness in his gaze, but ellie cant feel any hostility. It makes ellie uncomfortable because if he show any hate feeling, it will be easier to kill lize.Ellie told him that he cant be a mother for ed, because there will be a fight of power later on, so she doesnt want to pretend to be gentle and giving edmund false hope. Edmund understand. he said " It's okay, the imperial palace is that kind of place. Even if you are sorry to me, i know that empress isnt a bad person." Ellie feels bad to make a child who havent get his adulthood as enemy. imperial palace make a child mature even its not the time. edmund was innocent, but Marquis Sios will do anything to protect him. So the fight cant be avoid. Then carlisle see edmund. At first ellie confuse how to tell carlisle that he has a brother, but it seems carlisle like edmund. Before the divorce raymond did investigation about lize in western kingdom and he found that edmond birth was kinda suspicious, but after ellie asked for divorced and left him, he didnt continue it and focus more to find ellie. Now after the incident of assasination attampt of ellie and carlisle, he ask for another investigation about lize in western kingdom. - Spoiler: Western kingdom (from user Diraaroo) So, raymond and jeremy is searching for evidence about marquis shios involvement with ellie assasination, but still find nothing. but jeremy found something about duke droit. there is a nameplaque from a unique wood which only find in western kingdom. And they instantly think about lize, because she had been living there for 6 years. - Spoiler: Jeremy found out hidden truth (from user Diraaroo) This is major spoiler guys Jeremy found out a picture when tidying up Duke droit castle where he and his mom left back then. He went to duke library and when he want to leave he find a storage and there is a picture inside. When he saw the picture, it was a picture of 1st prince and Lize. And there was a name written in back of picture. "Taylen Egrita" (테이은 에그리타). This name is none other the half brother of current emperor, a former crown prince. It is strange why his dead father written that name in the back of 1st prince picture. He has one assumption, but didnt dare to think about it because it was ridiculous and tremendous.But there is a possibility that 1st prince and dead prince are related. - Spoiler: FL keeps rejecting ML's feeling (from user Diraaroo) She will see how raymond and carlisle getting close, they eat dinner together, also carlisle is the one who come to raymond first. And later after 2nd prince debut and first official party ellie attend as empress (again), raymond will sleep in empress chamber. Ellie let him sleep there because it is alrdy late and she doesn't want any rumour spread that empress kick emperor in late night and their relationship isnt good at all (or just a contractual). Seems ellie's frozen heart will melt down, because she know carlisle longing for his father figure and he seems happy with raymond. Yeah in around chapter 130-150, the story focus about the fall down of shios family, who will be crown prince, and how to get evidence about ellie and carlisle assasination attempt and about edmond isnt ray son. There is carlisle and raymond moment.. And sometimes ellie get together with them. - Spoiler: Edmond Sin (from user Diraaroo) Raymond found Lize Brother (Rion) and put him in the jail and keep asking him about edmond biological father. Rion keep silent. meanwhile carlisle meet with edmond. Edmond become cold toward carlisle. He want to leave carlisle and go find Ray, but carlisle told him that emperor isnt in his palace because he is with rion. Edmond realized that rion is his uncle, and asked lilla (lize's underling and assasin) to tell his mom. Lize is scared that ray alrdy know about the truth. So she give poison to lilla, and to tell edmond he need to put it in food for emperor, empress and crown prince. Edmond asked ray to eat dinner, at first ray didnt want to because he will eat with carlisle, but carlisle persuade his father so they can eat together as family. Lilla give the poison to edmond and tell him to put it, if he didnt do it, the one who will be died is his mother and him. - Spoiler: Rion (from user Diraaroo) So Rion is the one who will beg raymond to save edmond life. He asked raymond to forgive edmond and he will tell where is the antidote and go right away to take the antidote to save carlisle life. Meanwhile lize will act crazy and didnt even care about it, she just screaming and ask raymond to kill her and edmond. - Spoiler: Carlisle & Rize (from user Diraaroo) Carlisle will get better after drink the antidote. But after ray knows carlisle condition, he coughing up blood (So edmond put the poison in the apple pie|apple tart, the one who eaten it was carlisle, i thought no one else eat it or maybe there is another poison in other dish and ray ate it, lets wait until someone translated this part to know the truth), duke croft know about this. Raymond ask him to never tell ellie, and he can only last for 3 month without the antidote. Raymond reveal all of lize sin, and announced that edmond isnt his son, and his title is taken down. Edmond learned all the truth. He comes out of jail. Being able to get out of the jaill meant that raymond keep his promise to save edmond's life. Edmond always wished for raymond affection. He can't believe that he is son of the enemy (so he always thought the former crown prince is his father enemy, but the truth he is enemy son) raymond said to edmond that it doesnt matter whose child you are, there is nothing wrong with you, dont forget to keep living in the future. - Spoiler: Raymon & Igor (from user Veille) After I reread this spoiler forum, and also some other spoiler forums. There were readers, actually compares IGOR with Raymond. Like.. yeah both of them are cold hearted jerks to FLs but.. Raymond didn't let Ellie suffer a miserable death and his sins were just neglecting FL's feelings and being a total cold hearted jerk. The dude lost his ability to feel when his Mother was killed by the emperor and crown prince. And he also moved on from his ex (Lize). No feelings. So even Lize tried to seduce Ray, Ray still didn't give her a chance. Lize showed up with her son but Ray was more worried about Ellie, he didn't give a single fuck about Lize. His whole focus is on Edmund and Ellie that time. He didn't have any concubines or so..and unlike Igor, he didn't create rumors about him and Lize. They had a past, so it's likely to have a rumor about them. Ellie knew how Raymond loved Lize but she didn't know that Ray already moved on. he didn't love Ellie right? And he didn't promise Ellie to love her or anything. Ellie knew that Raymond wouldn't love her. Unlike Igor, he loved Rhia but he still continue hurting her because of his plans and so-called- protection. Raymond also lets her go and even suffered being apart from his child, poisoned, his mother got killed, save ellie and Carlisle from fire . He also kept looking for Ellie when she was gone. He let Ellie do what she wants. He didn't force Ellie on anything except when he prisoned ellie to the palace when she tried to divorce him but she's not abused or anything. She was just imprisoned in her own palace not in a prison.That was an asshole move but he still lets her go , thank Ellie's dad. He didn't force Ellie to become an Empress again. yeah he offered and told her he wanted her back but he didn't threaten her or anything. He even told Ellie to used him as her shield. Some MLs would actually threatened Fl to come back with them and that's toxic. It was actually Ellie's decision to destroy Lize and protect Carlisle. Raymond is just a cold hearted jerk. Being an emperor is not also easy especially when you are surrounded with malicious and greedy nobles. The Nobles are part of the empire. He also had a plan to make Edmund as Ellie's adopted son. So basically, it limits Liz's influence as the first prince's mother and if ever Ellie got pregnant again, Ellie's son will be crowned as the crown prince and not Edmund. He also didn't want a divorce and let go of Ellie because he knew how Ellie important she is to him. SO Raymond is totally DIFFERENT FROM IGOR. Yeah he has his flaws but I still think he's fine. He deserves Ellie and to be happy. - Spoiler: Why the Emporer deserved to be forgiven (from user Burnfavor1) So when they met she(FL) was a shy little kid who got lost on her first trip to the imperial palace. He found her and helped her find her way back, he was a cute boy, with a beautiful smile, black hair, and a bruise on his cheek and she developed an instant crush. She keeps coming back and secretly meets him, she finds out he is a prince and being abused by his older brother the crown price (she saw the crown prince spit on him, hit him and tell him he is nothing, and to live a silent life. He just took it cuz his mom was not recognized by the emperor and was a maid he slept with.) she doesn't really help him but is a silent friend. (she can't really do anything and is a little kid herself). they grow up together and she starts to slowly realize her feelings are of love for him but he sees her as a friend he needs to protect. He also thinks of her as someone who is on a higher level than him a beloved only child of the duke. He falls in love with Lize because she stood up for him from the anger of the crown prince(his abusive brother). She showed him affection and was the only person to ever stand up for him. She had beauty and a great reputation. She felt the same way, unfortunately for our FL, this was the time she wanted to tell him her feelings which she finally deeped. She always wanted him to be happy and when he starts telling her of his love and relationship she sees he is soo happy but deep down it's killing her but she decided to support him. She met lize and she was really kind to her and felt like lize and ml looked in love and great together. Finally, the ML lead feels like his life is going well, he is hopeful. He has three amazing women in his life, his mother, his only friend, and the woman he is in love with, unfortunately for him, it starts to crumble. He loses the woman he loves cuz her dad arranges her to become a concubine of the western kingdom. She leaves him so her family has a better life, then the crown prince kills his mother. She jumps to the conclusions of the past about how everyone knew lize and ML were deep in love and how sad it was their love could not be. then they go lize welcoming party, the Ml greets lize but he doesn't feel anything, the problem was that the ML should not gone to the party because he is oblivious to how this embarrass the empress. People will talk about how he is welcoming his old lover back cuz they are shit talkers but also because they see the ML and FL share respect but don't have that Intamicy and they think it's due to him loving lize. Anyway, Lize takes this party to force the ML hands and bring out her son and the ML 'son'. You guys read the rest of the spoilers, so I won't keep going. The simple fact is he never loved Lize even half as he loves Ellie, FL and ML were the right matches but wrong time. He did not overcome his trauma of losing his mother and the woman he loved, He killed the father who he wanted affection from who abused and abandoned him. He killed his brother who was his oppressor. He just shut off emotionally. So I was really heartbroken for Fl but the ML as well, I think she did make the best choice in leaving him tho cuz he got to comfortable with his stable home routine, and he was a great emperor. She was too naive and chained herself and she did not know a way to get out so honestly, lize, the two kids were actually a blessing for their lives. They needed that shack cuz they were too stuck in their ways and the past. In the end, they were both the victims, cuz what was he supposed to do not claim his son like his father did to him or other novels do to their children? He never claimed Lize even after the divorce (6 years), he just saw him as someone who stood up for him when they were young and someone who he cared for (his first love, that ended bad not cuz of them but family reasons) I think the divorce was good cuz they both came into a marriage that was for their old broken selves but they are now healed and their marriage should have a new HEALTHY intention and commitment. So to the end, I was cheering for them to get back together but in a healthy way and resolved their problems. Which they did! what do you guys think??? The emperor asked Ariel if she would agree for Lorraine to be adopted into the imperial family, to which she happily agreed. At the crown prince's party, the emperor talked to his brother and told him he would now adopt Lorraine since he now had a legitimate heir. The fact that the marchioness was pregnant was not revealed yet so the marquis was surprised. The emperor's justification was that he would take better care of Lorraine since no one can openly discriminate against a member of the imperial family. Lorraine was at that party and he was severely malnourished and the clothes he wore didn't fit him. The emperor made the announcement at the same party, giving no time for the marquis to take any action. The emperor announced that the marchioness was pregnant and the marquis would now have a new heir and that Lorraine would be adopted into the imperial family. Over the course of those five years, the marquis had been trying to get in touch with Lorraine, but the emperor kept on blocking it because he now considers Lorraine as his own son. He didn't want Lorraine's old wounds to open by meeting the marquis. Then one day, while Serene and the empress were in the garden, someone came. In Serene's young mind, she did not understand why her mother suddenly turned cold and was talking when nobody but the two of them was in there. The empress sensed a faint presence. She immediately cast a sort of shield and arrows surrounding both her and Serene. Then a man came out after the empress said she would release the arrows and it would surely kill him. The empress was trying to extract information from the man when Lorraine came and called after her and Serene. Lorraine just finished his magic class and Serene and Ariel were supposed to go to him when Ariel sensed a presence. Ariel got distracted and told Lorraine not to come, and in that split second the unknown man attacked them with a black spell or something. It shattered the shield and Serene, who was in Ariel's arms, was teleported into the man's arm. Ariel couldn't do anything because the man would kill Serene if she moved. The man revealed he's a Shadowmage(?). Just think it's similar to dark magicians, but not exactly like it. It was described that Shadowmages are adept in shadow and curses and that it was the opposite of magic, that's why Ariel belatedly realized that there was a strange presence in the garden. The shadowmage (let's refer to him like that) then told her that his master instructed him to kill the princess in the most painful way for it would bring the most pain to the imperial family. He then revealed that the next would be her sons. The shadowmage cursed Serene, threw her, and then vanished. Ariel ran to Serene and touched the place where the shadowmage vanished to trace him. She was able to trace the faintest of mana in him. Lorraine was so shocked he was just rooted there. Ariel shouted at him to go to his dad (the emperor) and tell him to get his two brothers and protect them all. Ariel followed the trace and she ended up in the marquis' mansion. The marquis, at that time, was already ready for rebellion. They were shocked the empress was able to track the shadowmage and this quickly at that. Prior to that, the marquis was thinking about what would the emperor feel now that his princess would die and soon his two sons would soon follow. That he would have no choice but to make Lorraine inherit the throne. Ariel deduced that the shadowmage was from the tower. The shadowmage was rattled because no one told her she was this powerful. In Ariel's rage, because by this time, Serene's feet began to rot, she burned the nobles who were colluding with the marquis (they were staying at the building next to where Ariel and the marquis were). Then she went for the shadowmage and blew off his legs. She demanded he lifts off his curse. The shadowmage just laughed and said he knew how to put a curse, but doesn't know how to remove them. Ariel killed him on the spot. The marquis was scared as sh*t by this time, but Ariel told him she would kill him, his wife, and his son. Ariel then burned the entirety of the marquis' mansion. She teleported back to the emperor's office where all her sons and the emperor were. Days passed and Serene's condition deteriorated. And rumors began to spread that the princess was cursed and it was contagious and that the empress burned down the marquis and she was actually a witch. The emperor thinks that there was someone associated with the rebellion that escaped and was now spreading the rumors. There were protests for the princess to be expelled and for the empress to be tried. The emperor did his best to protect both his empress and his daughter. But it came to the point that people were rallying outside the palace. They were demanding for the expulsion of the empress and the princess. That's when the empress ran away with Serene. If I understood the MTL correctly, she ran away without the emperor knowing. This part was a bit hard to understand but the emperor revealed that Ariel conducted experiments with other people (idk who yet as I just started reading this). Still, Serene vaguely remembers being in a tower and seeing a man with silver hair and red eyes(?). The emperor said that the only solution found to save her was to transfer the curse to another. Ariel decided to be the host of the curse. By that time, Serene's body was almost rotting away and she would soon die. Take this with a grain of salt cos the MTL is confusing and doesn't make sense, but from what I gathered, Ariel, being the OP archmage that she was, turned back the time before Serene got cursed. Then she had the curse be placed on her body. The emperor said he only knew because of the diary he found after Ariel ran away. He noted that Serene wasn't a second daughter but the same first daughter they had and her memories being vague or her thinking she was born again was because of the shock or trauma she received. The emperor didn't want to talk about Ariel yet cos he thought Serene was too young, but one night (Serene was sleeping in the emperor's room until it was decided which palace would be hers), Serene woke up from dreaming about her mom crying and the emperor telling her he would protect her and Serene, Serene accidentally said 'but when I was first born'... When Serene met her family, it was just the emperor and the three brothers. The emperor was said to be searching for the empress and Serene ever since they disappeared. When the emperor found the place where Ariel and Serene lived, Ariel was already dead, but he found a piece of paper where Ariel was. It has Ariel's magic. It was the same paper Serene got from Ariel. The emperor took it and followed the direction it seemed to be pointing at. But that night was windy and in his haste, the paper slipped his hand and flew away. He was already in the forest and he wandered there until he met Serene. And when he was away for the war empress killed the councubine's first born with poison and that made her mom run away. She fled and hid in a prostitute village as no one would suspect that she would be here. Empress had some kind of spell which makes emperor unable to find the concubine. Empress had put some curse on them so maybe mom died while solving it.
