Omamorishimasu, Dokomademo
Art (1) There wasn't a lot of effort put into drawing Nezu and Hoshi, which I found really bothersome since they appear almost as often as Chihiro and Akira. Minor feet problems too, but other than those, I'd say that this is up to par with sensei's other works. Plot (2) The symbolism in the story is really touching, especially Hoshi's analogy of Chihiro's feelings to an oasis. Then, there's also that 'balloon game' which I found really heartbreaking because it would make you realize what a truly lonely person Chihiro is. It hits you right in the heart. The thing I hate though is that a drug prompted the love confession. Really, it's a poor plot driver. Ending (1) All questions answered and the not quite couple is heading in the right direction, thanks to Hoshi's intervention. Note: This is more shounen ai than yaoi, actually.
Hisho To Shachou No Himitsugoto
For something that isn't finished yet, I've reached my quota for the shallowness of the uke. He isn't understanding at all and I don't think he knows how to separate personal matters from work. Plus, he's so oblivious to his surroundings. I can only feel bad for the seme who has to put up with everything. The art gets full two stars though. I may/may not up my rating depending on how this ends, though I make no promises.
Oko-sama Star
Art(2): I've always been a fan of slightly untidy ink work and this one ups it a notch! The art style gives the entire manga a more laidback vibe, which really helps set the mood for the first part of the story. Also, I'm in love with how expressive Kaidou and Honda are! I think the way they're both drawn in so much detail works well in elevating them from the background characters. Plot(2): Well, the characters aren't exactly inspiring - I (you) have probably seen a slightly sadistic seme and a masochistic uke before, but both characters are built up so subtly, that the manga still manages to suprise you with the shifts and movements of the story... at one point, Honda is this self-assured, independent guy then he suddenly will turn into an aggressive (and very possessive) lover. Then, there's a similar element of surprise with Kaidou because he's your typical misunderstood delinquent type, but his personality is so much more... complex than one would initially think. Ending(1): There could've been more and I'm sure they end up together for a very long time, so even if I'm left with an unsatisfied hunger for more of this story, I won't deprive it of the fifth star it deserves.
Wagamama Wanko no Shitsukekata
Kokoro Logic
There isn't much to be said about the plot except that it's overused (the split/multiple personality disorder) and poorly executed. What worries me also is the fact that I found the original personality annoying for crying too much. It's a good thing that despite looking feminine, the uke isn't girly at all... But then again, all the softness and wishy-washyness went to the seme. (The art is good though.)
Wakabaryou de, Kimi to
Art(2): Nothing spectacular or special, but still warrants full 2-stars. Paneling was great, no awkward or sloppy drawings. The character designs were pretty staple in yaoi, but nothing too cliche. Plot(1): Very common storylines in yaoi, though I found the first story incredibly sweet and satisfying. The rest were so-so and not as memorable as the first one. Ending(1): The last chapter was a cute continuation of the first chapters... We were given a glimpse of Higuchi's family background. Kinda sad that Hidaka's sibs didn't get their exposure though.
Boku no Ano Ko
The story is ok, pretty common. Gave me a few laughs, but not enough to leave a lasting impression. The winning factor of this manga is the art style, which I really adore!
Renai Moratorium
This is one straight forward manga. Start to finish, it leaves no stone unturned. Pretty satisfying because there are no loose ends... just really curious if the uke ended up quitting his job. (On another note, the characters didn't have much back story so individually, I found them slightly boring and forgettable.)
Merry Checker
This is the kind of manga that makes you forget all your preferences about art, plot, character design... it just pulls you in from the start and you can't put it down until you've finished reading. It is light and simple, wherein the conflict resides in the character. Plus the flow of the story is so amazingly written that you don't notice until it's over. Overall an amazing read. I highly recommend it.
