dystopia stories just hit different

i was wondering... if they were intelligent beings, why the first solution when they've run out of food was cannibalism? somehow I had the impression that the only "thinker" was the "queen".. maybe i missed something bc it's 11 PM and I'm really sleepy but well, great story and all. it's like the promised neverland, but different.
