I was interested in the premise. I felt that it has a lot of potential, but the characterization didn’t quite come through. MC is annoying somehow. He’s not as bad as others, but the impression was he only shouted and had sex except for that one bit of heroism the author showcased that just so happened to be when ML was in danger (even though before then there was no indication of MC being able to defend himself - in fact, the trait that was highlighted was his defenselessness and inability to get himself out of a pinch yet)(ofc character growth is nice but there was no conveyance of the process, MC just all of a sudden could fight in specific situations and be defenseless in some - the internal monologue is only about how scared he was when he was alone and how thankful he was to have someone save him w/c is fine but it stops there and doesn’t go deeper) (the focus mainly was moving forward with the romance and moving the plot to humanity finding each other and survival in the dystopian society, but everything gets solved so easily it’s like making light of the complexity and possible troubles of the pandemic) (to the point that your brain can predict they’ll solve the next problem in the same anticlimactic manner as well) (the only “climactic” aspects with any iota of thrill is reliant on the character’s timing - basically they shout how worried they are. A case of bad acting - there had to be set-up and moderation and a sense of relatability for it to pass off as good acting. Otherwise anybody could say lines and shout with worry or anguish, and be a renowned actor).
Part of the reason I picked this up was for the complexity and sense of crisis of dystopian society. The world building, the character growth, the mystery, and not just the sex (I’m not speaking for other people though).
This is just not it for me.
