Asa fell in love with his guardian who unfortunately was in love with asa's deceased dad. Asa found out after he confessed and he ran away from home and lived on the streets. (It was too painful him for him to go back to the same house and live with his unrequited love like nothing happened. )That jerk he found on the streets, who seems to be the head of a gang or something abused him sexually and physically. Asa allow this because he was trying to drown out the emotional pain with physical pain. He was unsuccessful so he was planning on committing suicide by jumping off of the school building and that is when he met Mitya. They fell in love hard at first sight and now they are so connected that being with each other is like a drug and when they are apart they experience withdrawal. Mitya's story is basically he was only half Japanese and he was rejected by some part of his family who basically abandon him and put them up in an apartment to finish school. He feels left out because of the way he looks but he is fluent in Japanese and Japanese culture. Still the way that his family treated him makes him very angry inside and so he snaps easily not everyone other than Asa.
