83 - josei type of read, k dama flavor
There’s not enough humor to warm up the tale, so If it’s a rom com, I searched long for the rom ( very one sided effetts on the guy part) and still haven’t found the com (or so little) - we’re left with a drama
it starts story about unmarried pregnancy in k society (interesting!à), then if becomes a textbook about how to care for each others (the ML is absolutely awesome there), then, about being parents (the textbook intentions are heavier, we’re in « the plan » not in « the flow » of the story) … the whole thing is like a bunch of slice of life with some teaching intentions and at times, it seriously lacks spontaneity, it becomes a tight heavy (maybe because some monologues feels more like a lesson than real feelings ?)
I’d think the problem comes from what’s done of the MC, as we, once again face a very distant unexpressive character - she exists in smiles blushes and laughter only in the memories of their first encounters -the rest of the time, she’s stone faced, and the relationship starts with an obligation, it feels like she’s suffocating
I would add that her mother and childhood trauma are a very unneeded addiction , as everything could just be the same without a need for trauma
A bad divorce and a busy woman was enough to set that overly cold MC (being that cold is already a flaw of some typa as she’s hard to rela too), but making a sick woman out of her mom was truly unneeded , she’s so cold it’s pathological, so. indifférent she feels autistic ; it doesn’t make sense and it’s burdensome
also it’s so easy to be at odd with your parents, why going into the direction of abuse - because, as much as the MC denies it, neglect is a form of abuse, actually, up to that point it would be considered criminal ! - but it just used as a gimmick to grow useless weaknesses to the MC
It has Zero benefits in term of story - zilch , it’s just painful and heavy
That bad mother trauma also makes the MC into a cold, but wishy wshy char, she’s needy and instead of sticking out for herself she becomes super dependent (yeah blame it on pregnancy hormonal ride, but that’s not just it ) , filling the void and compensating for the lack of care is really not the best base for a healthy relationships , it feels rather unfair to the ML who’s like filing a bucket with a hole when he’s pooring his everything into their relationship
It’s a typical less is more, when it comes to trauma as a background , that rule should always apply
It’s sad because they were some goo dpoints to that MC, she’s great in her job, in her friendship, she’s good with kids (paradox ?) she has nice ethics actually the trauma thing makes her more 2D and remove from n e n other relationships ( the ML suffers again as he is the exclusive recipient of a stone face silent woman : he’s a masochist ? No, He’s drunk with the memories of his first encounter : a much richer person that we will barely see again ?
The ML is quite interesting - his only flaw would be to like a very flawed character (bad bad writer) , the relationship runs too long on his shoulders alone, his one sided decision also feels disturbing as you could hardly have interactions with a piece of wood, it feels like a business operation for a long time :/
Despite this flaw in the script, There’s a lot of good things about him- He's nice but cold and controlling in the beginning, but he fast becomes super lovable as he’s truly attentive and caring - he has all the right priorities and he doesn’t have any of these sick yan/tsun trait, what a rrelief!
Contrary to the MC who feels like a character injected with too many intentions (growing more heavy), he starts as a caricature and becomes a very fully fleshed out character with cute flaws, good values and fun quirks
…
in the end,
There’s a big waste of side characters, appart from his niece ( her background is lost too :isn’t she supposed to have a new sibling ? What about the ml raising her ?)
The author has a talent to bring out interesting characters at first sight, but doesn’t do much with them - the red haired bestie nearly disappeared, her little sisters and his incredible family seldom appears - and there’s way to much her mom
There’s she remains mostly cold, it’s hard to feel for her and harder to feel like her - she feels like like the textboob of a sort, but her background is so strange that you can pick a few nice quote, and even lots of them in the getting along/parenting department lessons, but you can’t relate to her
Story telling wise, it’s a big flaw, maybe there are some cultures of introverted cold women, and maybe neglect is more common than that, but i still enjoy a bit more lightness at the end of the day
The whole thing feels like it only works through the efforts of the guy. Seriously, he’s a flawless character, well balanced, a bit fun, great values and good sense of listening to the others need, i say waoh ! Where can i get one ? I sign up just right there! - - but what the heck maybe the writer should have wrote a book about how to be a « perfect « modern man ? (Perfect is not needed, but he has all qualities for happy healthy relationships)
But the audience should mostly be female
Also there’s no chemistry
And she’s great in some place, but she could hardly be a model when it comes to relationships (she said herself she’s done nothing for it, it’s all his work (a bit creep controlling,) and his good will (some awesome bits, literally) - be she’s done nada !
well at least i sets great standard for boyfriend material and their intimacy is fun, painless, desires come (mostly) from both side, ( it sadly grow into the « pervert » calling in the end, but it light, nearly « cultural « )
Positively Yours
