Kurui Naku No Wa Boku No Ban

Complete | kusabi keri | 2016 released

For the first few chapters the main alpha is so f*cking confusing. He talks about how alphas and omegas are human first designation second, yet still hates omegas because his omega dad slept around to earn money, had two kids with unknown fathers and refused to settle down with one partner. Then there's something about an omega pairing with an alpha to stop the nature of an omega to seek sexual relief in any and all willing bodies, yet he respects his omega boss who is somehow both very competent yet uses his omega body as a tool to get to the top and is prideful in his looseness, something alpha seems to be against? Like dude, what do you want? Do you hate omegas, do you pity them, do you just hate your alpha self, which is it? Stop contradicting yourself, it's confusing. Edit: It's fear, with a smidge of pity. He does the classic thing where he's the only alpha around to be able to stop himself from sex when confronted with his boss in heat because he doesn't want to sleep with his boss and by extension be like the alpha's that used his dad. He hates the idea of being an alpha like that, he's scared of it even. He admires his boss for using alpha's dicks against themselves and conning them into doing as he wants. After The Shitty ExTM shows up, they start to realize they like each other, alpha says he wants to be a good alpha towards his chosen omega and omega wants to pair up with him after all. Basically, the whole "it's okay if it's you/you're special" routine, which is a trope and a half but still somehow cute. Probably a trope for that reason.

Hina wa Mitsuiro no Koi ni Torawareru

Complete | TSUBAKINO Imeri | 2015 released

Shinobu (sweet boy uke) is heartbroken as his best friend is set to get married to his girlfriend. In his sad state he seeks out a warm body to keep him company and runs into Kou (the asshole seme). After a one night stand Shinobu is ready to get back to his regular day to day but runs into Kou again when it turns out the guy is his new boss. Kou comes onto Shinobu hard despite Shinobu not wanting the man to (classical yaoi style sexual- and power-harassment combo). After an admittedly sweet date at the park Shinobu gives in to Kou and allows himself to fall in love with his boss, only for said boss to do a complete 180 and ignore Shinobu's existence. This is where it gets interesting because Shinobu realizes he's being played and he doesn't like it. What he does next is the only reason I gave four stars as it is quite unique for yaoi: Shinobu gives Kou the proverbial middle finger. He pulls himself together, dumps Kou's ass, gets himself a haircut, ditches his fake glasses, embraces his pretty face and transfers to a branch office in different prefecture. You go, sweetie, good on you. Of course, this is not a genre in which a breakup is the ending of the story, they still have to get back together. So, asshole seme Kou has gone back to playing with people's hearts but ironically his own heart is not in it. He keeps on thinking about Shinobu, calls out to his empty chair at the office. He realizes he has fallen in love with the one plaything who said fu and is having a crisis over it (cause playboy is not used to catching feelings). Through it all he is surprisingly self-aware of the whole being a dickwad aspect of catching feelings for someone he treated like garbage. He repeatedly tells himself that Shinobu has absolutely no reason to forgive him, but he is unfortunately an inherently selfish man, so he seeks Shinobu out anyway. Kou apologises (bare minimum really, still; unexpected) the very first opportunity he's got and Shinobu for his part rebuffs every attempt at reconciliation Kou throws his way, including sending the man home when Kou travels across prefectures to Shinobu's office. As time goes on Shinobu's resistance starts to slink and cracks when Kou works and worries himself into a fainting spell and a stay at the hospital. Shinobu gives in and listens to what Kou has to say. It ends with Shinobu giving Kou the benefit of the doubt and Kou gets a second chance to do right by Shinobu. Overall, Shinobu is such a sweet and kindhearted person and Kou had better realize he is waaaaaay out of his league. Also, shoutout to Nakamura-kun, he deserves his own happy ending for being a good friend and colleauge to Shinobu and a kind subordinate to Kou, he's a good boy (I would have actually kind of liked it if he would've been the one to end up with Shinobu after Kou gets dumped).
