The entire story is a redemption Arc of the emperor’s past life, with a happy end. Takes a while to get there, but worth it

Spoiler *** The emperor is a piece of sh*t with so far no redeemable qualities. He is self entitled, arrogant and lacks empathy, tormenting the mc. The mc overthrows him, imprisons him and later reinstates him. He then fakes his own death to get away. While he thinks the mc is dead, the ml misses him terribly. He later goes on to search for him, sees him and that's where the story ends, open-ended. The story is not a cringy reading, being a manhua (Chinese, so toned down on the depictions of violence, rape and abuse). I have no idea why I keep reading it, buy I doooooo
