In order to understand how or why his father entered the cult and killed ? his family, he wanted to make sure that his father had no such intentions.Lucifer, the leader of the cult, gave his prophecy to everyone. Where Michael was supposed to kill his loved one. Since Michael realized his feelings for Niel he was getting weird ideas in the head to kill him as if he was possessed.So Neil faked his death and Michael confessed.Later when Michael saw one of the old photos back 30 years before, he saw father August was the same, never aged.
