Chunqing Yatou Huolala
When I first read this I was exited about the mafia aspect because mostly when I've seen mafia/gang it describes the leader as ruthless but then there's no fight scenes or actual fear that the person is dangerous and you should flee for the hills. I for one like the mafia leader to have a moral code of no rape or undue abuse of women or children, if the woman can defend herself and has the intent to kill then defend yourself that's okay. I also like when it's increasingly difficult to gain trust or affection from the mafia leader due to rival gangs always gunning for your life, men/woman wanting to spend time with you to gain power, favors, or make you indebted to them. I'd have a thick wall of caution and I like that Mr. Yu has an inner circle of people he'd consider friends, I was surprised to see a woman among them because he seemed to have intense resentment toward women as he takes their first times and ditches them and oh boy even going so far as to tell the women that if they get pregnant to not expect any child-support from him or to even recognize the child as his own...I mean the abortion money was new to me definitely. He keeps himself detached even to the point where he could watch a person drown for awhile without flenching...I dared to wonder if he allowed himself to care/love a woman what would he be risking? The female protagonist I give serious props for being praised for her high intellect and not easily giving her first time away even when she truly loved her boyfriend...they made an agreement to have sex on her 18th birthday but I guess he couldn't wait patiently and gave in. I mean her boyfriend did recognize her abilities and seemed to cherish her to some extent since she was the only one he called "girlfriend." I also liked Mr.Yu's original disposition how he has a different manner of speaking and walk that he usually covers for, I think I'd wreck his mental/emotional defenses and learn how to swim with martial arts.
This Yakuza is No Gentleman!
When something starts off this intense the question is always...have they met before? It's something as simple as I'm too lazy to look for someone else when a person is that conscious of whether you like him/her. I mean at the forefront of the story of yoshihari seems determined to woo her...but 1st loves can be so sweet especially those that help your family with no ulterior motives. I mean Yuri enjoyed spending time with his mother while she was in the hospital...something he couldn't bring himself to do since he didn't know how to bring himself to apologize as both him and his mom would get angry at each other. But she would always remedy the situation with his favorite dessert and Yuri learned it for their sake...so sweet!!
CEO Above, Me Below
I've got to say at first I was really thrown by the complete nonsense of the first part with On Guang being so confident that the female protagonist had drugged him, slept with him, and was keeping their child hidden away somewhere (maybe neglecting him/her) like nothing would alter his perception that maybe she was framed and maybe he was wrong. I was thinking he's got some serious mental issues to be so mad and violent all the time, his staff doesn't know what to do with him and women flock to him for his money, influence, looks, and even with all his faults he is intelligent when it comes to business and technology. I realize people try to use and drug On Guang all the time, but I was really pained by his response to how a virgin can be pregnant and not let the doctor verify I mean it was her life on the line if she was lying. But, the more you read the more you understand that he really has an extreme case of paranoid personality disorder mixed in with trauma and delusions...he thinks everyone is out to get him and holds fast to his own claims. If ever a person needed inpatient/therapy kind of treatment I think he should have had some things to help him cope and bring himself back to reality when he's lost in delusions and he blames himself for his brother's death as well and gets easily triggered by car accidents. I mean there should be someone that doesn't just go along with the male protagonist all the time, because yes he needs a constant support system but many of his thoughts and feelings are clouded by his mental illnesses. I do think it's interesting that his mind actually made 5 star food taste bad and only accepts the female protagonist's food!
