Blood Bank
This is one story where you really, truly have the just ‘hear me out …’ In the beginning, it reads as a smutty and comedic BDSM webcomic with fun reverse power play dynamics and a spicy dash of horny hatred covered in a gorgeous art style. I actually nearly stopped reading early on. But the author did a great job of following their three act plan. The original chapter ‘Blood Bank’ is this exactly. As you leave the original chapter and delve into ‘Carnival’ and later ‘Masquerade’ a touching and heart aching back story is revealed. The main couple is in fact the product of more than one generation of hardship, suffering and dreams that never saw fruition. The interpersonal relationships explored are painful and raw and I found myself falling in love with them more and more every page. For a story with less than a hundred chapters, I truly can’t believe the author managed to so gracefully build a world, follow a plot and explore a relationship.

Oh and Matthew’s there. Just jokes. In actuality, this is my probably my favorite yakuza-type BL and a BL that sits safely in my top ten. The relationship between these two is written very well and the art is stunning. There’s something about the dark air of the story combined with the minimally expressive faces the artist has mastered that amps the story up so well. Jin supremacy. I was only half joking earlier. Let that man have whatever tf he wants
