Masterpiece Beautiful re-encounter plot where it begins with two childhood friends, one who is outcasted for having a different appearance (red eyes) and ability. After a certain incident, the outcast friend is presumed to be dead, but the MC holds on hope of him being alive for many years. Finally as an adult, they encounter each other again by chance, but this time, the MC discovers the lost friend now to be in the ruling position of power for the country, with his identity hidden, in a position traditionally meant for a female. Seriously, this has such a interesting plot, beautiful romance, and really cool concept and setting. It's not often I get to see stories based in such an ancient tribal version of Japan. Shiki's role feels tragic as he was kidnapped and groomed for this position of power and responsibility he never asked for, and now this role keeps him physically separated from his friend, the MC, who he loves because of some spiritual law about maintaining purity. This is based on really cool lore. All this makes me root for the main pair more. Who knows if this will update soon online, but I believe in 2024 via Amazon, physical English copy will be sold!!!!!!️

That was so fuckin beautiful!!!! There's 3 Edo BL stories that have been recently made around 2018: "Yuki & Matsu", "Momo & Manji", & "Bena". They do have commonalities in showing how cruel the world of the past was in the sexual abuse & torment of minors especially, & in general how the vulnerable are the prey for the powerful. Judging from what I've learned about history, I'm sure there's accuracy to that. While all three titles are love stories taking place in the Edo period, all have very district styles, & are doing different things with their stories. However, one commonality I great appreciate, is that they all have the same idea of people going through the worst possible shit anyone can experience, enduring unspeakable abuse, but making it out on the other side & finding peace, happiness, & love. These stories embrace you with love in the end. They're all wonderful! Bena was beautiful!
