As the town's sheriff, Fran was on an errand for his people when his horse died in the desert. Stranded and facing the scorching heat, he wandered for days until his weakened body gave out, only to be rescued by a Native American.

Calahan, a famous hunter, chooses Johnny the Grifter as his final target for a 10 million pais reward. Johnny insists he's innocent and challenges Calahan to prove it by offering a bet: if Johnny proves his innocence, he gets a million pais. Calahan and Johnny embark on a high-stakes adventure with a mysterious group of men in pursuit. They have ten days to reach their destination, and both will do whatever it takes to win the bet - dead or alive.
