I long for the day when yaoi manga authors move away from rape. It disgusts me to see that 90% of yaoi manga uses this trope, as it supposedly shows just how much the seme is in love with the uke if he rapes him. These kinds of things are unforgiveable. I've experienced something similar in the past and being hurt like that does not make me feel loved or cherished, and I certainly would not suddenly realise just how much I am in love with my abuser and rush to their side to console them over what they did. Time and time again I see rape in yaoi manga and it's never addressed. Often times the seme feels sad afterwards because they made the uke cry, but they don't understand that what they did was wrong and then start blaming the uke for not returning their feelings. Then it's the uke's job to make the seme feel better. It frustrates me to no end because I generally fell in love with this manga at the beginning but to see this happen twice just broke my heart. You can't tell me that it's okay because it's fiction, because rape is never okay just because it's not our reality - it's always someone's reality. Rape should never happen if you love someone, that's just not how this works. That's just showing us that it's okay to hurt the person you care about just because your feelings are too much for you to contain. There are many young and impressionable people who read yaoi, and I would love to see the day when there are long, beautifully written romantic yaoi mangas with genuine feelings and NO RAPE. Please please please just get over this narrative. It's so painful to read.
