actually kinda decent 9/10 for me :)) 1 point revoked for the cheating LMAO still not an excuse regardless of sexuality or preference as well as ((possible)) seme from the son's side's pushiness but I guess what makes this a bittersweet but fun read is the layers of having to hide their relationship in the context of Japan and its politics as well as views on the LGBT+ and the fathers seem to be responsible people, both at work and as padre de pamilyas, so yay for that :D

I've always loved this story and its always such a satisfying read every time I re-read it. A beautiful work of art, enough to sate you and leaving you just near full but not craving. A perfect balance. Its chapters can all stand alone and it's direct to the point. Yan, with such a terrible life, is a no nonsense lad who won't let anyone blur the lines of his life-long plan to cause ruin to the emperor who wrecked his and his father's life. Yan becomes the emperor's eunuch and enacts a plan to take his sweet revenge, served cold. Wren sensei dishes out a full course with dessert to the side. One of my favorite 2000s yaoi. It's not stupid for no reason, or iffy just for theatrics, or rapey for the shocks and giggles. Everything has a purpose and the art is mesmerizing and very reminiscent/nostalgic of 2000s yaois but not with the ridiculousness, heck, far from any of that. I finally found that yaoi that my younger self really really liked (apparently). I find it so funny, that just a few years ago I found this hot and now I fully realize they're like... cousins COUSINS. I honestly dont know what to feel (￣∇￣") Also, how funny would it be if the editor and publisher and author's conversation for this went like this in their sales pitch: "Ok, I have this idea. Lovers, but the antagonist is this unknown not curable but actually curable disease." "Say no more. Sold." "Oh, but we'll only give you 7 chapters to cram all that." "Wait, what ????" "Also, since its 7 chapters, make it incest. Don't make them not related by blood. We need something to hook the audience with." I keep imagining this to preserve my sanity (▰˘◡˘▰) Anyways, this is a 4 out of 10 (trying to be nice to my younger self lol) (P.S. If it's just sex scenes alone and a standard PWP, it'd prolly go up to 5 or 6.4 or smthn)
