Haramu Made Midare Ike - Migawari Hanayome to Gunpuku no Mouai
Tono Asako is known as a spinster, but she doesn't mind as long as she can take care of her frail younger sister. But when the soldier Shintaro Kido requests her sister as a bride, Asako can't let someone with his reputation take her sister, especially when she hears he only wants a bride to give birth to an heir. Asako begs him to take her instead, and Kido agrees, beginning their relationship as husband and wife in which Asako believes herself to be a replacement bride, but Kido seems to have wanted her all along. Asako starts off seeming like a very strong character, but once married it feels like she immediately loses any strength to her actions and just becomes your basic FL and dutiful bride. It's fine, but not a standout story. Trigger warnings: Sexism, attempted rape, threat of suicide.
Aien Catharsis
Inami is the young lord of a family who just hired a new chaffeur, Kondou, who can be a bit too honest and straightforward for his own good. But Inami encourages him and inadvertently ends up winning him over. Even when Inami finds out about Kondou's feelings, very little changes between them, until Kondou finally pushes Inami to face a past betrayal and other trauma to move forward with his life. Trigger warnings: mention of cheating, attempted rape, statutory rape.
Ijiwaru na Haha to Ane ni Urareta Watashi. Naze ka Wakagashira ni Dekiaisaretemasu
Sumire's sister and mother have always treated her terribly, made her work, and made her do all the housework, but even Sumire's shocked when her sister racks up a debt with the yakuza and her family decides to sell Sumire off to pay it. Meanwhile, the yakuza head, Touya, can't help but empathize with Sumire's situation a bit, so he finally decides to make her his housekeeper instead of selling her into a brothel, and now Sumire lives with the yakuza clan. Pretty cute despite the dark subject matter at the beginning. Trigger warning: human trafficking.
Shinoburu koi ni kuchi dzuke o
Kagemaru is a ninja who was sent to kill the castle lord, Enji, but after meeting him he switched sides and fell in love. Enji's retainers aren't sure of Kagemaru's loyalty, but Enji himself is more than sure - in fact, he wants Kagemaru to be more than just a bodyguard. Smutty story with a fun historical setting. Trigger warning: dubcon.
Destined: The Fey Priestess Becomes the Bride of Suzaku
Ginka has always been abused by her family for being born with white hair and a scale birthmark, while her younger sister is a perfect priestess, expected to marry the head of the Suzaku family, Kazuha. But when Ginka bumps into him by accident, Kazuha unexpectedly announces that she's his destined partner! A typical Cinderella type story with a snowy Japanese mountain setting that makes it interesting. Trigger warnings: abuse, attempted murder.
Itoshiki Ningyo
The mysterious tattoo artist Umi lives alone with two fish spirits for company after being ostracized since birth for having a huge scale birthmark caused by a mermaid's curse. One day, he bumps into phony exorcist Mikagi in town, and the two end up hitting it off and sharing about their traumas. But the real exorcist in town now has his eye on Umi due to his mermaid mark, and his intentions are far from good. I love everything about this story. Umi is adorable, Mikagi is a green flag, the fish are so cute and funny (and scary), and even the other humans who are treated as monsters have such good character designs. This is a good one. Trigger warnings: abuse, kidnapping, human trafficking.
Married to the Dragon God
Tsuwabuki is a lion dog, illegitimate son to the head of the wolf family, and he's always been treated badly by his family. When a proposal comes from the dragon god Shuro that he needs a bride to purify him (through sex), Tsuwabuki's sister forces him to take her place. Tsuwabuki believes he's not worthy to be Shuro's bride, but it turns out Tsuwabuki was who Shuro wanted all along. I wasn't totally satisfied with the ending, but it was still a decent read. Trigger warnings: child abuse, attempted murder.
Girl Meets Dragon: The Sacrificial Maiden's Happily Ever After
Tama is an unlucky girl who can see yokai. After getting fired from her most recent job, she runs into the job broker Ginichi and begs him to find her a new job. He primarily works with yokai, but he offers a her a job at his office, saying her presence will bring them in. Trigger warnings: wrongful accusation, stalker.
Hakuran no Kemono
One day, a deer beastman chatted with a human who had fallen into a hole and helped give him some food. Years later, that deer is caught and choked by a village chief, Ryan, causing him to lose his voice, though he's pretty sure Ryan or his brother are the one he spoke to in the hole years ago. The deer is nicknamed Shia by the village children, who play with him, but Ryan insists they are only keeping Shia to use him for his hair and antlers. Though Shia initially resents Ryan, his kindheartedness causes him to help Ryan multiple times, breaking down Ryan's walls, until Shia is kidnapped and it's up to Ryan to get him back. Although Ryan is a huge jerk, I like Shia a lot. Trigger warnings: violence, kidnapping, human(beastman) trafficking.
