He'd always expected to become the chief, but after being saved by a member of the shark-descended rival tribe, Tukiri, the two are unexpectedly swept away by heat-like symptoms and mate. Now Avel has no choice but to be an offering to the rival tribe, but when he arrives, it's nothing like he thought. I liked this story more than I thought I would, but the mystery they build up around why the tribes do things the way they do has a disappointing conclusion, imo. Alto is just a young kid in a village protected by one of the island's four kannagi who battle the darkness in the ocean to keep them all safe. Most people avoid the kannagi, but when Alto meets the local kannagi, Elva, he finds himself totally won over, and he decides to stay by Elva's side from then on. Alto's presence seems to have some good effects on Elva, causing the black marks from the ocean to recede and helping him age a bit more after his time seemed to have stopped, but Alto wants to free Elva completely which means uncovering the secrets of the abbey that controls the kannagi as well as the island itself. Very compelling and well written fantasy with a strong leading couple. Highly recommend. Trigger warning: discrimination, abuse.

In a modern world with several old families descended from animal spirits and monsters, ogres are known for being especially romantic as they fall in love only once with their "blossom of fate." Hana is busy working at her adoptive parents' restaurant and assumes rumors of the young ogre lord searching for his blossom have nothing to do with her, until she meets the ogre Mitsuki and feels the spark for herself. This story is all over the place. It's as if every chapter they introduce a new conflict only to either resolve it or forget about it by the end of the chapter, and yet it also feels like nothing really happens, perhaps because it doesn't build up enough. It wasn't compelling, but the boyfriend was good about consent, so there's that. If you want to read it for the smut, go ahead. No trigger warnings.

Isekaied doctor Chika is bought out of being a sex slave by beastmen Gail (lion) and Doug (bear) who run the local adventuring guild. Chika has a hard time getting adjusted to their kindness and affection, so he's even more surprised to learn he is the "pair" of both men. Still, he's eager to repay them for all they've done for him, so when he learns he has exceptional healing powers as a result of his doctor training, he uses it to restore Gail's lost arm and Doug's permanently injured leg. Unfortunately, such a miracle will draw a lot of attention, Chika is still suffering from the sex slave's curse, so the three men decide their only recourse is to return to Gail's family, the royal family of the Leonidas kingdom. Trigger warnings: sex trafficking, mention of rape.
