Haku is a beastman who grew up in the management zone for mutts, but when his father died and he got chased by kidnappers, he wound up in the world of humans and their high-pedigree pets where he was picked up by wealthy businessman, Eiichi. Eiichi saves Haku from drowning and makes the innocent and childlike Haku his pet, helping him deal with his heats and showing him the world. But when a woman who wants to marry Eiichi enters the picture, she threatens both of them and puts a wedge in their newly forming relationship. This is a really interesting world and I love the artwork, but there's no denying that it feels weird to have Eiichi sleeping with the very childlike Haku. Not for everyone, but if you can get past that it's good. Trigger warnings: attempted kidnapping, attempted suicide, feels like statutory rape.

Kiraide Isasete

Ongoing | Hijiki , ひじき | 2018 released

Naoto is an omega who was raped in high school and gave birth to a beautiful young daugther that he's struggling to raise alone. He finally lands a job as a school janitor, but it turns out the school belongs to the alpha Hazuki who Koga had met the day before and who is convinced that Koga is his fated pair. Hazuki is determined to show Koga that he can love and protect him as his pair, while Koga is frightened to let anyone close to him again and to trust an alpha. This one is fine, but I felt like the first volume was a good enough self-contained story, so I never finished reading it. Trigger warnings: rape, attempted rape, discrimination.

But as the two get closer both emotionally and physically, they find it harder to let go. The characters aren't particularly compelling and the misunderstandings have been done before, but it's fine for what it is. No trigger warnings.

Kouguu no Omega

Complete | tsuyuhisa fumi | 2019 released

Ilya is an omega brought to the desert country of Hanu as a bride for their king Khalid. Though he sees himself as little more than a prisoner, the people of this country believe omegas are messengers of the gods and revere him. Meanwhile, his new husband is still a child, but as the two get to know each other better, Ilya begins to look forward to protecting this country together, until Khalid is suddenly killed and his position is usurped by his older brother. Ilya is forced to go on the run, but he decides to stay in Hanu and protect its people as best he can, just as he promised Khalid. The years pass, and a rebel organization continues to fight against the new king, but when Ilya finally runs into the rebel leader, he finds a familiar face. I like the pacing of this story a lot. It's one in which the time skip feels useful and not forced. Trigger warnings: attempted rape, attempted murder, wartime violence.

Sayonara Alpha

Complete | ICHINASHI Kimi | 2016 released

Chika has always believed he was an alpha, as demonstrated by his perfect record in school, sports, and his spot as the class president, until he met his fated pair, a seven-year-old boy named Haruka. Although this completely shatters Chika's perceptions of himself, and although his sexual urges threaten to run wild whenever Haruka is near, Chika can't stay away from Haruka, even if it means abusing his suppressants to give them more time together. This story is not for everyone since it has a teenage lead in love with an elementary schooler, but I honestly think it's an interesting take on the omegaverse and the idea of fated pairs and was overall handled well. Trigger warning: kissing/touching a minor, shotacon.

Subaru is a rock star who attracts masochists, so he plays the sadist in bed, but really, he wants to know what it's like to feel the pain. One day his band mates bring him to a bar, and Subaru catches the bartender, Ryunosuke's, attention. Ryunosuke can see right through to what Subaru really wants, and they have amazing compatability, but their relationship is a bit ambiguous, and Subaru isn't sure he's ready to fully accept his masochist self. Their relationship is fine, but I did really like the confession scene at the end. Trigger warning: choking, S&M.
