lots of metaphor around entering into and opening oneself to homosexuality and the acceptance/awareness/rejection of others around you. Author uses faces to denote 'value' of characters to protagonist.

Harada's stuff is always dark and compelling, and this piece centered on the nasty fallout of the child abuse cycle, gay rehab methods, and coming out to family is no exception. Beautifully dark, painful, and yet hopeful - still left with dregs, imperfections, and scars at the end.
