I Have To Be A Great Villain
(CONTAINS SPOILERS AT THE LATTER HALF) I like the premise of this manhua a lot ! But it was confusing at first because I think the early translations weren't too good so it might be easy to misunderstand some dialogues and scenes, but I am grateful that the translations after chapter 60 did get much better and much easier to understand because this story is interesting enough. (SPOLERS START HERE) The only thing that was iffy for me was that at times within the 2nd world, it did come across as borderline shotacon or can be misconstrued that way with how much qin xian was becoming the target of wang yi's S tendencies when he transformed into a kid; and you definitely couldn't even interpret it as something innocent because he had even admitted these were "perverted thoughts". Even going back to the 1st world, some parts were hard to read because qin xian was definitely still a minor (17 years old, was it so hard to at least make him 18 T^T) with a 5-year gap with wang yi but there were a lot of scenes which were not appropriate for minor qin xian (that bartending job that caters and satisfies special guests, like no). Anyway, this could easily have been a 5-star manhua if 1) the earlier translations were better (I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be ungrateful and I know translating is hard work, but it is what it is), and 2) if the parts I had mentioned were altered or not included at all because they already had a lot of chemistry and we know they would've progressed into something more as the story went on. On a more positive note, I genuinely think Qin xian being a yandere isn't bad at all too (since he's not really the murderous type) because I think it fits well with wang yi's personality and him having S tendencies, they're both odd in their own ways. Plus, I think that the diversity of the novel genres tackled within the story is actually really cool. I'm excited to see how this story unfolds and I'll be waiting for updates.
Wolf In The House
You know that the art is good as hell when the smut isn’t as explicit compared to other R-rated BLs (e.g., showing of privates) but it’s still so sexy and sensual. The way their hair falls down, how they all grasp and hold each other, how they touch each other so softly, THE EXPRESSION OF EVERYTHING is just too good. Calling it beautiful art is an understatement. To complement the gorgeous art, the story is also great, interesting, and feels very noir without everything being black and white only. I loved that the author took their time in discussing the stories and backstories of everyone AND who knew we were getting some GL on the side which really made me love everything even more. Furthermore, even with such a plot, they didn’t forget to insert really funny panels as well. You wouldn’t expect it, but it really gave the manhwa more variety. Greatly recommend this !
My Father-in-Law Is My Wife
This one was pretty good
The Art of Taming A Tiger
This was so good and interesting ?? Especially since it revolved and featured deities from korean mythology (and other asian mythologies/deities). All characters were likable too (likable in the sense that if they were bad, I didn’t hate any of them as they merely served their purpose). Another thing to commend about this is the comedy, it made me laugh my ass off + their comedic side comments are gold. For some reason the art reminds me of manga/anime art from the 90s-00s and I was nostalgic the whole time I was reading it. The only teeny tiny flaw I could find was that beomjin and yoonjae’s relationship and feelings developed too fast, tiny only because it didn’t bother me too much since not everything is slow burn, but I feel it was a bit too sudden still. I think the author was going for a more fleshed out plot line of the story’s universe that’s why it was the way it was, nevertheless, we got more scenes of their romantic dynamic so that’s a plus. The story and yoonjae and beomjin’s romantic relationship were balanced. I’m so happy I came across this because I’ve been having a streak with bad BLs recently so this was definitely a palate cleanser. I just hope this has more chapters tho !! Or at the very least side chapters. I feel like there’s still more to tell about their world (the 3 worlds to be exact).
Biting the Tiger
I’m sorry I dropped this, this probably had a decent plot, but this made me cringe so much I couldn’t get myself to read past chapter 19 anymore. Obviously hanwool’s romantic feelings/attraction towards yunho were grounded on something (as I read in the comments), but still, attraction and jealousy showed too fast. All their romantic interactions felt shallow and concocted out of thin air. Also idk but yunho’s so annoying like bye crying like a victim when hanwool was just being protective of his friend and we all knew that his intention from the start was to hurt naroo.
Dawn of the Dragon
I definitely have mixed feelings about this one. It’s not bad, I liked it more when we were getting to the flashback parts cos now we get to know more about the plot and how hyo-un and taehyuk’s fates tied together in the past. There are a few plot holes but it’s not that noticeable or you would question it for a second but then just move on. I think the only major problem I have is that there are a number of sex scenes that start out as dubcon/noncon, especially during the flashbacks. It is what it is but again just a warning for other people out there who do not like this. Another concern I have (but it really is up to the interpretation of the reader) is that taehyuk in the past has definitely built a father-son relationship with hyo-un which gives the moral dilemma of a romantic and sexual relationship even though technically hyo-un wasn’t a “child” child, just had the maturity of a child (even in present time). Let’s also add the brother’s obsession over taehyuk lol. Anyway, curious for the next updates and I am praying for taehyuk’s past, present, and future bussy cos hyo-un is too big
