Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy - Future Arc & Despair Arc Comic Anthology (Dengeki Comics EX)
-I personally prefer the DNA Media Anthology over this one. -Unfortunately, reaching the 50s (page-wise), I found myself confused over certain comics, and no matter how many times I went through it, I could not understand whatever punchline and/ or overall message that was supposed to be conveyed -- especially since there were no Translator's Notes to confirm it was actually something that did not translate well or that this comic would probably not be understood by people separate from Japan's trends and culture. Moreover, I doubt the translation was wrong since -for the majority of the read- it was practically flawless. I would hate to chalk it down to being a 'Japan' thing, but I am afraid that is what it may be. Unlike with the DNA Media Comic Anthology, where there are rarely any moments where it becomes difficult to understand, this one was frustratingly difficult to read through because of its lack of universality. Whatever the case, I ultimately felt these comics could have been so much more. Even though these comics can usually be pretty Out of Character, there was too much emphasis on the artist's bias and perception of the characters rather than on the overarching gags and insightfulness usually found within these anthologies, if that makes sense. However, that was not always the case. For instance, you had the Mioda comic where she throws her message into her "ocean". It made me overjoyed to see someone give Mioda more to her character and talent than through how the majority sees it. Rather than thinking of it stereotypically, the artist understood, as the 'Ultimate Musician', much more thought and meaning go into the lyrics and music than just plain "noise" or blatant "preference" of a genre. It's experimental. That's what makes a musical genius a genius. All of that came together for a meaningful and thoughtful comic under the guise of a gag. Regardless, that's what I had been hoping for, but alas: I was met with great despair. Maybe that was the point. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
