Nineteen Over
This is next level messed up shit that's happening rn. The age gap and the sadism and the masochism, the whip marks and the pill the seme gave uke. I feel like some things don't make sense even tho I am only 5 chapters in like why did uke show up suddenly after 6 years just to give that heirloom necklace back after leaving the little sadistic seme behind? I mean we know he loves him but that doesn't make sense right? Also the fact that uke can overpower seme but the situations he finds himself in are very *ahem*. The seme is such a red flag and not the charming kind. I can take possessiveness more than the normal person or overprotectiveness as well but WOW
Ani no Senaka
Our dear MC is in love with his late sister's husband. He fell in love the moment he met him when his sister introduced him and he has been in love ever since. They worked in the same place and were newlyweds, half a year into their marriage, the healthy wife suddenly fell sick and passed away. Since then, our MC has lived together with his brother-in-law, it has been three years if I'm not mistaken. His older sister was more like a second mother to him than a sister and he owes a lot to her so he is swarmed by feelings of guilt towards his second mom. However, he wants to touch his Aniki, feel his warmth and feels happy to be near him. Convinced that he will never be free from this feeling, he planned on moving to Osaka after he graduates and stay as faraway from his Aniki as possible. His Aniki doesn't like that and wants him to stay with him. He has come to depend on him, since MC cooks for him, sets the table, packs his lunch and basically acts like a wife. He brags about his cute brother to his co-workers, a reason he is not popular as said by his female workers, and is proud of him. Okayyyy..I finished it and have come to the conclusion that Shindou is the MVP. He needs more screentime. I love how he helped Yuki and his Aniki maneuver through their rocky relationship. Also before I read the first chapter, that panel of Shindou complaining about how people often mistakes him as a homo while saying "Yuki is beautiful. He has smooth and soft skin, he is good at cooking and has a cute face when he is troubled" in the same breath is peak comedy. Also, I was shocked finding out that he actually had a girlfriend. The seme telling him that he should spend his free days with his gf instead of Yuki and him replying with "I do as I please". He is such a role model..Pfft
Love Jinx
What an achievement!! My first time completing a YAOI manga ever!! I got pretty close with 'Love is an illusion' and the beginning of 'The King's maker' and I had to skip some parts of 'Lost in the Cloud' cuz the content disturbed me on a deep level. I'm not counting those mangas with less than 10 chapters..cuz why?? I like the story..the MC is pretty solid, I mean he doesn't back down when people are being pushy and downright rude..but he knows when to lose the fight like the ML..that guy is a criminal level so u have to keep your head down and do as he says..cuz he has a few loose screws in his head. The ML is alright..he is better than some of the other obsessive semes that are violent and even hurt the people they care about. I was worried for a second since he was a bit too rough to the uke. But the most he has done is hold his hands too hard to leave a bruise or yank his hair. He admitted he wanted to kill him cuz he abandoned him so he left him alone eventhough he knew which school he moved to and could manage to get his number if he wanted..but he is obssessed with the ML..that's for sure. Since he was a child, he was infatuated with him. Contrary to the MC's thought that he met the ML cuz of him being friends with his younger brother..our deranged ML approached his brother knowingly to get close to our MC. He was "conveniently" placed in the same class as him. It surprised me a bit that the ML was willing to let the MC go..like when he left him, he didn't visit his house and when he moved schools, he deliberately pretended not to know where he was. Even after 8 years, when he found out that his acquaintance was dating him, he just pulled some strings to get them to break up. But even then he didn't plan on going back to the MC's life..it was only when he went to his apartment (he lives there when he wants to but he has a separate house for himself) and saw the MC face to face that he forced his way into his life and is so adamant on not letting him run away this time. I like seeing things from the ML's perspective, it's fascinating seeing how his mind works and how he convinces himself and his train of thoughts. He indeed cares only for the ML..burning his grandpa's grave and the forest where he rested, then strangling his father near death and telling him to ask our MC to get back together with him. That incident the dad mentioned where he maimed a guy was a bit heavy. The MC's taste in man is truly second to none..in terms of trashy level that is. One cheated on him, one abused him, and others I have no idea. That model is bad news..he actually harm the MC so no to the no no no. Also the jinx that happens when he kisses someone or is being kissed by them is a placebo of some sorts, right? It has to be. It was caused by the ML. When the MC was caught kissing him when he was asleep (he asked him to so he could get better tho he doesn't remember) by his grandpa and therefore his social life was ruined..and he lost contact with his family for 8 whole years cuz of that very trauma.
4 Week Lovers
This is it, the perfect mix of shounen-ai and yaoi. The ml is not overbearing to the point that it feels suffocating but enough to fulfill that craving and the MC although a pushover and a naive person has some degree of backbone and a stubborn personality to him. The sex scenes are so intimate and personal that it feels like we are intruding on their space rather than the author flaunting that they can write a smexy scene that is droolworthy. Ahh their dynamic is seriously adorable and it is not unrequited. The ML is as much in love as the MC is though he refuses to date him for personal reasons alluding to the fact that he is an orphan and the very relatable reason that he can't even look after himself so how is he supposed to care for another person? UPDATE (6/3/23): I am caught upto ch50 and the translations are not the best. I was under the impression that I hated clingy and crybaby uke but this uke Dojun is just so soft and squishy that I can only adore him. Jaehee is lucky, also his type is a puppy...the lengths he went through to get close to him was funny. He found his ideal type, what other girls he dated found to be burdensome like his possessiveness, persistence, walking home everyday and excessive skinship..he welcomed all of it. Also Dojun doesn't have a single muscle in his body..his tummy is so soft and I like how when Jaehee touches it, it has some fat to it
Waterside Night
I already read the earlier chapters of this and dropped it because it wasn't my cup of tea. Saying that, I am willing to give it another try because Lucy recommended it to me and informed me it gets better. Personally, when the top forced himself on the bottom and blood dripped from the bottom's ass, that's where I drew the line. It made me question things and put me in a sour mood. I know that the story will probably delve deeper into the psyche of the top considering from what Lucy said, that the top is beginning to trust and open up to the bottom. That tells me everything, what the author prioritise in their storytelling and so on and so forth. I was fully expecting the top to be head over heels in love with the bottom by now, bending to the bottom's every wish and whims but that does not seem to be the case. Maybe we get that sprinkled here and there but I have an inkling that that's not the forefront of this manhwa.
The Origin of Species
Wait a minute..I already read this. Wow I wasn't expecting that. The gist of this story is powerful and shady figure comes across a young genius of a hacker trying to dig into their shady business. Of course the latter gets caught and the mission is put to a halt. The sex scenes I feel aren't the best that this medium has offered me but it's not the worst either. The dynamic is the same typical powerful and overbearing seme×pushover and timid uke so yeah..
My Roommate Obsesses Over Me
This feels like a oneshot. It is a manga so the development over 5 chapters is equivalent to a whole 50 chapters in other stories so there's that. There is nothing special or unique about this story and the situation they are in. But that in itself was nice. The seme who used to be a nerd wearing thick glasses with an obsession for the constellations meet the bubbly and extroverted uke who is open and wants to learn more about his interest. The uke went abroad then the seme learned that he liked him all along, flash forward to the present they are now high-schoolers probably(?) and the seme doesn't recognise him rightaway nor does the uke. However, when the uke went on a montage about the stars, the seme's interest was piqued and he asked him how he came to know that. Then uke says it's because of his name and something 'seven' so the seme is aware that he was his childhood friend whom he harboured an unrequited love towards, the seme is delighted then confesses he likes him and attempts to kiss him. The uke runs away then finds out that seme is his roommate and is woken up by a kiss. Now this whole interaction is bizzare to say the least but I have learnt not to ask questions especially in manga and in particular yaoi or shounen-ai. The seme is elated and is super touchy then the uke runs off after he cummed with seme's hands then blah blah figures out he likes him too. Then searches for him only to find out that no-one has seen him recently then he finds him in the rooftop although it said 'unauthorised'. The seme's justification was that it was a perk enjoyed by an honour student. That's not true irl btw..no-one can have access to the rooftop, I have no idea why it is a thing in animes and mangas. Then both confess. Now comes the conflict..people assume that seme is dating a girl which is not true. But uke is jealous because now the once nerdy and geeky seme is no more, what is now in that place is a confident, extroverted and good-looking guy who is very popular with the girls. The uke becomes insecure (mood) and questions their whole relationship and runs away to the park where they met and is in a swing. The seme catches him then they reconcile. They now have their first date and it has to do with stars. An exhibition of some sort is what I gather from it, the seme initiates intimacy by touching his thighs then rubbing his crotch, the uke swats his hands away then the seme sulks. As if hit by an Eureka of some sort, the uke retaliates by doing the same thing. The exhibition now ends. Then the seme grabs his hand and wants to go home since he couldn't hold himself back anymore and wants to give sex. They have sex..although the seme was gentle, something I can't say for other semes in this genre. ~THE END~
Love So Pure
I read chapter 1 then skipped to 50 to 65. Based on that, I love how the glasses guy is unhinged and very unproblematic. The top is also so cute. I love their dynamic so much. Also the bottom is so pretty I want to be like him.
ENNEAD
Man oh man, what a field trip this has been. It just keeps on going and going. I don't mind the incest especially considering the timeline, the fact that they are gods and I mean it is fiction. It was a common practice during that era anyway. Sodomy is also rampant in this story. I can't blame them Seth is devastatingly beautiful and his temper tantrums are very adorable. His and Osiris dynamic is so interesting and I normally ship those type of dynamics but this particular combination is very unsettling. Seth is clearly the victim and the way Osiris obsesses over our beautiful Seth is not cute, it's creepy. I can tell he means every words he says to Seth of his undying love for him. When he says that he has never spent a moment of his life where he lived for anything but him. I am certain he sees it that way. Also the victim-blaming that Isis does annoyed me. Why? But that is also an expected and natural response as well. Horus is an intriguing character, he feels responsible for his mother yet betrays her for Seth. His love towards Seth is more pure than his father's but it is very strange indeed. We can tell from his first appearance that he had a thing for Seth. Also him calling Anubis a brat who is ungrateful got a laugh out of me. That is truly something that he would say. Yes Horus, a child who has been abused physically and mentally and had to watch his mom suffer from his tyrant of a father is ungrateful. Horus calling Osiris a madman also put me in a good mood. What more? The Sun God, geez that old bitch some shady motherfucker. This manhwa makes me feel things. Also how it is not only reduced to smut scenes and have an ongoing theme and plot unraveling at the same time. UPDATE (10/3/23): I have read the 16+ version and the plot takes the center stage there so we can understand better the motivations behind some characters and what makes them tick, how they process things etc. I could never put my head around how Isis blamed Seth for that night and tried to get revenge on him but it turns out that I wasn't offered the full picture in this version. In the 16+ version, we can see her stomping her way to where Seth and Osiris are and mumbling to herself that Seth should go to his big sis first and tell her these things. That Osiris will just talk his way out and that Seth would just play right into his hands, we can also see that she still has hope and that she planned on talking to Osiris but that shattered when she saw them kissing. BUT that doesn't excuse her behaviour. Seth's the victim here and he had to do whatever he could even if that meant offering his body to his lunatic brother who was obsessed with him, as long as Anubis(his son) was safe and sound. The line "I don't need a child. I won't wish for such a thing. I won't even think of Anubis as my son anymore. So just leave him alone. Let him live a normal life" begged by Seth to his brother (who was btw Anubis bio dad) made me feel so much for him. I don't even know why the Enneads are so hard on Seth when they are all the same way. They think of humans as cattle, someone they can order around and that serves as an amusement or a sort of entertainment for them. They might act like they care about them but at the end of the line, if a situation occurred where they had to choose between humans and their needs. They would choose themselves without batting an eye. Even Isis, who is being told as a merciful God who cares deeply for humans, tried to raze Egypt to the ground if her son didn't win the trial. And apparently she flooded Egypt once before as well.
