My Goal is to Live a Long, Healthy Life as a Golden Spoon
Please let it be good
Solo Max-Level Newbie
This gets on my nerves. I want to give this a one star but I have to give two stars objectively. The MC is an asshole, his personality is rotten to the core. He reminds me of a novel I read that was blatantly racist and makes no sense. It is all over the place. The gap between Ch 1 and 2 is humongous, although it is fiction there is no amount of relatability and is just absurd. The world is his oyster basically. It seems like everything and everyone serve him. I don't like that at all. How did I manage to read until Ch17?
This Time I Will Definitely Be Happy
This was not my cuppa tea. When I read the synopsis although I had my doubts, I was hoping despite my worst feelings that it would be different and that the synopsis would actually be true. But it was for naught. The MC lived through three lifetimes already but it ended up being the same - she falls in love with her childhood friend, the friend/lover gets chosen as a hero, he tells her to wait for her then marries another. So she decided to take matters in her own hands in her fourth life and move on (not to wait for me). Ofcourse the MC moved to the capital, got a job but she frequently heard news about the famous hero and the princess. Although she wants to be unaffected by it, she feels sad when hearing these news and is hung up. I need my MC to be more hard-minded but she is too soft. I also dreaded that the ML would actually have a reason for breaking his promise and actually loved her all along. But I did not want that..so I dropped it. I just want a story where people just fall out of love and there is no proper reason behind their actions, they just felt like it. Just because it is the MC doesn't mean that every person has to fall for her especially when they are so unremarkable. Ughhh enough of my rant
To a New Life
It's another dungeon-esque manhwa with a male main character. It's not too different from the rest in this genre while having its own charm. The MC falls into the OP trope who is alpha like already. What I typically hate about MCs like him is they are already so pompous and a dictator who imposes their will on people. Deciding things on their own to find out if they are useful to do their bidding. Also they become so annoying to follow like everything in this world was made for them. I don't know if this MC will be like this but I hope not, I already dropped a manhwa for sharing the problem of that type of MC. As much as I love SCOG, I hated the MC who was a pervert being chased by women and not denying any of their advances and he always fell into this erotic situations that are so stupid. The priestess turned out to be his pick in the end but his ex who stood by his side all this time, I feel pity for tho she kinda sus. On the other hand I have some kind of hope for MC. He clearly has a woman he fancies, hope it won't turn into a harem situation like SCOG. I am quite positive it might not turn out that way cuz he slapped that priestess hand out of his face when she touched him. That minor gesture gave me hope that he will be different..faithful and loyal. Update : I finished upto chap60, exactly where season 1 ends. I love his dedication and loyalty to the fl. Good for her honestly. 'I will clear all obstacles in your path, defeat all enemies and give you the throne and when the time comes, make me your King, my Queen' he says while kissing her hand. I do hope they can keep the balance between romance and action, we all know most manhwas run into that problem all too often * I am looking at you ' The beginning after the end'*
The Knight of Embers
I love everything about this. First of all, the characters are spectacular. The MC is amazing, he is lacking in so many things but that is compensated for his one useful asset : his brain. The way he maneuvers through situations by reading the situation, people, expressions and body language, tone and arrive at a sound conclusion is a sight to behold. I don't even try to think anymore, whatever Nagyun says, I'm like 'Yep'. At least more people know about his identity now so the risk is significantly reduced. The plot itself is pretty solid. He is trying to enact revenge or vengeance whatever you call it to the murderers of his prodigy brother, Najin whom he assumed the identity of. Further down the line, we find out Najin might be a member of 'The Descendants of the Dragons', and he betrayed them so therefore he was killed. But there has to be more to it, right? They called him 'A child of the fire' so he must therefore be extinguished. The fact that Najin sacrificed himself for our MC by killing himself with MC's hand since it was the only way to ensure MC's survival is heartbreaking. Also that silver-haired knight was the only one who figured out MC's identify from the get go without any hints. And she seems to deem MC important. So our pal is a descendant of the dragon too..he conveniently lost his memories but when he regain them, he will change, won't he? I like him as he is now. He was implied to be strong from the flashback scene. Also our MC, is he special? Is he actually the 'child of the fire'..it would be incredible if he isn't as that would go against the usual norms of this genre and that itself fits into the theme of this manga. I also love how the MC is not blinded by revenge, he did not leave his companions to die to chase after the people who could give him information on his brother although they were seriously injured. His ability to read people and mimic the 'aura' that only skilled people can sense is so intriguing. No matter how formulaic the plot gets when MC faces hurdles, he overcomes them by bluffing, I look forward to it every single time. It doesn't become redundant. Also Nijin must really love his brother, huh? So why the secrets? Was that his way of protecting him? The way he was enlightened about his power was because the MC was seriously sick and he felt powerless and resolved himself to get stronger to protect him. The theory that Nijin might actually be the one to start the fire in the village and the MC took the blame for it is also highly plausible. The way the MC commands people using psychology and his glib tongue will never bore me. Him analysing situations and acting on it is my absolute favourite. His quick thinking is so attractive. Him being bullied by his brother's "lackeys" was annoying and unpleasant to watch..just why? Blaming a child for that is so wrong. Even the adults, spitting on him, seriously?
Epic Of Gilgamesh
Currently read 10 chapters..I'm a bit surprised honestly. Maybe my expectations were too high after finishing the latest chapter of 'Ember knight' written by the same author. As far as I know, this takes place in the same universe maybe the timeline is a bit messed up. Nonetheless I prefer 'Ember knight', it might be recency bias because I read that first. But it's hard to imagine it's from the same author, the narration is completely different with the tone and so on. Maybe it's because the personalities of the MCs are so drastically different that it makes the story feel a certain type of way. The connection I see atm is when 'Ramen' mentioned that there are three legendary magicians, few great magicians and other ordinary magicians, that was also divulged in 'Ember Knight'. Atleast we can see the author's progress in writing as well. Update (2/12/22) : Okay..starting from Ch11, it definitely picks up. Hardar joining the gang really completed the group dynamic for me, it is comparable to Toph joining Team Avatar for me. You don't know that it's incomplete without putting them in the equation. I like that we get the world building, the history of the world and each important character's backstory - from The Three Legendary Magicians, to Black Hen, the Blacksmith (man that made me feel things..made me believe in love again), the strongest knight 'Pure White Elephant'. It was a good decision to explore this manhwa and give it a try since I love 'Ember Knight' so much. Getting backstory and knowing where some of the characters come from adds to the story so much. I have an idea on how the Black Hen operates and what they plan on doing with Caelan (?) power. I like that our immortal MC gets peace and that his story lives on through 'The Epic Tale of Gilgamesh'. Also I like the reveal that this was written by Trudia through the obnoxious stories told by Ram on their journey to the end of the World. Since this story is completed and all that's left is side stories, I hope we get to the sister of Hardar and their reunion. I am also looking forward to knowing more about the first disciple and find out his motivation behind killing his master. Ram never found out about it but he surely regrets not asking. That reminds me, the fact that Ram distorted history by putting on the alias as the 'Sword Saint' and going around teaching people..and how that ties into the Blue color swordsmanship taught to knights that is all about attacking and not defending which worked for him since he was an immortal..nice This website does not have the complete side stories so I went on Tappytoon and read it all there. I never knew Tink would play such a vital role in the story and be an inspiration for knights. His speech about being strong and powerful, that those who are strong are whom have the power to kill but those who are powerful are those that can kill but choose not to. That speech is iconic and is repeated in 'Ember Knight' by Qilin of all people. I love that we see his colleagues again in the sequel. Also, he was the person whom they say started the war between the East and West. Although the General is alive and well..with one arm nonetheless. The context that dragons are dumb and that their words weigh them down given by a Dragon hunter was insightful. Also love how Hardar's master was the one who saved the dragon and that's how she managed to get by despite being a dunce. A dragon's blessing is neat...he lived for a hundred years due to it. The East are truly despicable people, exploiting the dragons and using them to their demands. That's why they all moved to the West, also love the snippet we get of a dragon whom managed to completely blend to society.
The Emperor's Companion
I remember reading this a long time back..My sister and I were just starting to discover this medium and this was one of my first manhwas I read..I remember being so intrigued by the plot and recommended it to my sis and she found it to be annoying. However, I continued reading it but stopped at one point cuz I felt like it wasn't going anywhere..the plot just stayed at one place. The characters are so confusing..for an MC who is such a sis-con and decided to devote her life for her sister whom she wronged in her past life..she sure is taking it easy and dismissing her sister's wishes for the Emperor (male lead). I don't know why the ML acts the way he does but I don't want to find out either. His behaviour is so strange, surely there must be something to it since the God acted kinda strange while talking to MC
Leveling With The Gods
It follows the game-esque point alloting system where points are gained for their every accomplishments in the dungeon. The MC is OP because he time-travelled to the past as a last resort to gain an upper hand towards their enemies - the outer gods. What are these outer gods? Not much info is known about them but they are essentially gods outside the tower, thereby the term 'outer'. Their powers are strange and mysterious, seemingly unlimited and upto this point of time where the MC time-travelled to, their existence is unknown. There are numbers to the floor, the higher it is, the harder it is to clear it. But past the last floor exists the ceiling where the true difficulties lie. The difficulties faced in the mentioned floors is basically nothing compared to this, a simple wave of hand. The MC is a human, a Korean male who had gods as his allies whom he fought alongside with and whom he treasures. So he doesn't feel the need to make friends this time around with the exception of a certain son of Zeus. He doesn't think the lives of the mass as priority and hates Olympus. They seem like a bunch of asses with their heads way up in the clouds. The egg in itself is a mystery tho I'm sure it will be the greatest key to achieve their goal. We are always hit with the fact that the MC is powerful with him smashing new records everywhere and teaching everyone a lesson. But that doesn't seem to be enough and he is always looking to gain more strength. It can technically be a four star but I'mma give it a three cuz I don't particularly enjoy it tho I can objectively say that it is a good read.
I Used to be a Boss
I like an easy read. This gives you exactly what you would expect from this genre. The MC is like a child, forcing his ways through things. There seems to be some force that is controlling things from behind-the-scenes, I suspect that light coloured hair bitch that is shown from time to time. I don't really care for Raven, but he is central to the story since as the best hunter in Korea, he inspired many hunters and is a role model for many. The secret class that Baphomet is now a part of suits him. I like his dynamic with the Chief (?) too. Raven's younger brother is very interesting and a potential friend/rival. Also I love how Baphomet came to care for the group of men who followed him. It was also due to that he awakened. I loved him as a monster, and I love him as a human too. His wish to become a human since he was trapped in that room for as long as he could remember was granted when he killed Raven. He was mistaken as the hunter who killed Baphomet (himself) then when it was later found that he had no powers, he was called a fraud even though he never claimed such thing. The quack doctor, I would like to meet. Seriously exploiting the naive Baphomet is a crime. Also his legal name being the name of one of his followers who essentially gave him the right to his name, since it was so grand as he was killed. It shows his personality, I wonder what his parents would think of that. I read upto Ch10 and the mentor dude is pitiful as hell. He loves his wife so much. The wifey though in the process of saving a woman while she could save herself by using the slip given by her hubby (that would transport her to the evacuation area) died. The woman saw the slip and used it for herself while apologising. Thus the mentor formed a deal of some sort to being her back to life and the crime he is involved with for that is what the MC and his team are investigating.
