Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
Read most chapters...it doesn't feel like my type of story but good story nonetheless...the bromance is going to be good from what the comments say but I haven't gotten to that yet ..the ml or other mc? He seems to have a lot on his shoulder and very on edge from what I know so far..the bromance I haven't seen yet it seems one sided so far from what I have read upto..some secondhand embarrassment here and there from mc.. Update: Currently at Ch120, I like it but it's hard to get back at it cuz of the momentum since it is action packed after all. I understand the ship between Dokja & Junghyuk now at least.. Update: Now at ch131, starting to lose interest:/
True Education
Under a different name 'Get schooled' in Webtoon. Tbh I saw this for so long on my featured and everytime I went on Webtoon but I ignored it thinking it was stupid woke adult shit. Turns out it only took me the first chapter to get me hooked. I love how it tackles different sides and angles around students to teachers and parents. The way bullying takes place between men and women. The victim's mentality and a bit of a redemption arc. So far upto the chapter I have read which is 99, the mystery surrounding our MC's wife is getting revealed..hints have been given out and sprinkled throughout but this is the closest that we have gone..with the perpetrator so close and the fact that he is a high-schooler? For context, MC's wife is a teacher and the killer(?) her student. The fact that he makes his underlings have her face tatted with her initials G.Y. That is messed up dude.
Mercenary Enrollment
Under the name 'Teenage Mercenary' on Webtoon. Currently upto Ch99, so far the formula has been the same - Douchebag shows up, makes some noise, underestimates Ijin, gets pummeled by him and repeat. Tho the gangster is my fav character so far along with his dongsaeng. The grandpa is also so kind and good-hearted..reminds me a bit of Uncle Iroh. The sister not so much..she acts like a caring lil sister and that's it. The previous bullies who now play online games with Ijin and the bodyguard with Yuna and that nerd..love how that turned out and the dynamics are fun to read. The military general is a gem along with the whole squad..love how Ijin whole attitude changes when he finds out that Jihye is his fiancee, he is like 'sister in law'..I dislike Shin Yuna the most, something about her character and face and whole personality sours my mood..it's actually a problem I have with this webtoon. Her having a one-sided crush on Ijin was a road I hoped we won't cross..like romance I hate that shit. Seems like the bodyguard likes the sister..so kudos to her. The bromance between the MC and bodyguard is top-notch..What else? When the older bro of Jihye was introduced, I thought he was being overprotective of Yuna cuz he loves her.. y'know incest..ugh I hate how that crossed my mind.
To a New Life
It's another dungeon-esque manhwa with a male main character. It's not too different from the rest in this genre while having its own charm. The MC falls into the OP trope who is alpha like already. What I typically hate about MCs like him is they are already so pompous and a dictator who imposes their will on people. Deciding things on their own to find out if they are useful to do their bidding. Also they become so annoying to follow like everything in this world was made for them. I don't know if this MC will be like this but I hope not, I already dropped a manhwa for sharing the problem of that type of MC. As much as I love SCOG, I hated the MC who was a pervert being chased by women and not denying any of their advances and he always fell into this erotic situations that are so stupid. The priestess turned out to be his pick in the end but his ex who stood by his side all this time, I feel pity for tho she kinda sus. On the other hand I have some kind of hope for MC. He clearly has a woman he fancies, hope it won't turn into a harem situation like SCOG. I am quite positive it might not turn out that way cuz he slapped that priestess hand out of his face when she touched him. That minor gesture gave me hope that he will be different..faithful and loyal. Update : I finished upto chap60, exactly where season 1 ends. I love his dedication and loyalty to the fl. Good for her honestly. 'I will clear all obstacles in your path, defeat all enemies and give you the throne and when the time comes, make me your King, my Queen' he says while kissing her hand. I do hope they can keep the balance between romance and action, we all know most manhwas run into that problem all too often * I am looking at you ' The beginning after the end'*
The Novel’s Extra (2022)
Saw it in a YouTube short and a scene caught my eyes..it was hilarious..an MC who struggles with social cues are fun to read. It wasn't as comedy driven as I expected it to but it still holds up to my standards. The MC being an adult views the characters he writes (high-schoolers) differently since he already went through a lot and the way they bully people and needlessly pick fights are something he doesn't spent any time worrying about. I like how blunt he is..like I know the og ML Suho is hopelessly positive and has a mindset of 'Never give up' but he thinks differently. Like in the case of Nayun who is adamant on using a bow even while it's not the weapon that suits her the most, Suho encourages her to never give up and comforts her. Which the author knows btw but he meddles in it since he knows that Nayun won't reach her full potential clinging to that bow of hers. So he intercepts their interaction, and before Suho could comfort her which led to her catching feelings for him, he straight up says "I saw your match. See I told you, you are better suited for the sword. It's not too late just like me. I strongly suggest you to change your focus" which she gets riled up at and so that Suho × Nayun ship sinks. There was another chance when the students write reviews of some sorts and Suho writes about how amazing she is, what an inspiration she is and yada yada. Ending with him saying that he believes she will be become the best hero there is. Ofcourse she gets embarrassed by this and blushes, then she sees a long review from an anonymous (most definitely MC) and she gets furious. The leader of that group has the most chemistry so far with the MC. When he locked eyes with her too long, he gets anxious that he would be suspicious so he utters "So pretty" and that facial expression on both of them..hilarious!! That was the scene that made me check out this manhwa..also when she sat next to him and a drink gets spilled on her..that also appeared on my YouTube shorts..how he gave her the tissue after. Someone spoiled that they were endgame and I couldn't be happier. Supposedly because he was an extra, when the story finished everyone forgot about him and went on with their lives. Not her tho..they lived happily together in a mountain...living a peaceful and secluded life. Love that he doesn't end up with the main cast since they are high-schoolers. I mean the body he is in is technically a high-schooler but his mind isn't. All his life experiences and all don't vanish, so him ending up with an adult was refreshing. You have no idea how tired I am if that cliche 'I raised him but now I yearn for him' bullshit with all the isekais now.
Youngest Scion of the Mages
What to do? It's typical and the classic 'powering up' manhwa..but I am enjoying reading it immensely. I like the MC's dedication and commitment to everything. He doesn't waste time. His mom being the same as his previous mom..face-wise was an interesting component that made the MC protective towards her and thus becoming a source of motivation. Him meeting the og ml was very interesting. He has two friends now..and I like his shadow. I kinda cringed when he talked to his father..but I get why he did that. His father genuinely loves his mom.. that's good to know. UPDATE (5/3/23): So I've read upto CH41 and the progression is very dungeon-esque like in the way that the MC becomes super OP and only progresses, obtaining and monopolising things meant for other characters since he already knew the events that would occur since he is the author. Everything feels very flimsy but I do like Larsen and his group of friends.
Leveling With The Gods
It follows the game-esque point alloting system where points are gained for their every accomplishments in the dungeon. The MC is OP because he time-travelled to the past as a last resort to gain an upper hand towards their enemies - the outer gods. What are these outer gods? Not much info is known about them but they are essentially gods outside the tower, thereby the term 'outer'. Their powers are strange and mysterious, seemingly unlimited and upto this point of time where the MC time-travelled to, their existence is unknown. There are numbers to the floor, the higher it is, the harder it is to clear it. But past the last floor exists the ceiling where the true difficulties lie. The difficulties faced in the mentioned floors is basically nothing compared to this, a simple wave of hand. The MC is a human, a Korean male who had gods as his allies whom he fought alongside with and whom he treasures. So he doesn't feel the need to make friends this time around with the exception of a certain son of Zeus. He doesn't think the lives of the mass as priority and hates Olympus. They seem like a bunch of asses with their heads way up in the clouds. The egg in itself is a mystery tho I'm sure it will be the greatest key to achieve their goal. We are always hit with the fact that the MC is powerful with him smashing new records everywhere and teaching everyone a lesson. But that doesn't seem to be enough and he is always looking to gain more strength. It can technically be a four star but I'mma give it a three cuz I don't particularly enjoy it tho I can objectively say that it is a good read.
Jujutsu Kaisen
So many things to unpack. I have read the anime and loved it..of course..duh. It's a classic shounen and I loved all the elements. It wears its inspirations on its sleeves..and I love everything shounen..the angst, the characters, the plot and the energy. Gah!! Itadori is the perfect protagonist for this world..Panda is such an icon..Maki a girl crush..Megumi a mood..Nobara so relatable..I love useless Miwa too. Nanami is my man!! Still upset he died, Nobara made me feel a certain type of sadness when she died too but Nanami..I felt hopeless and empty..I couldn't accept it. Hollowness is all I felt..Gojou and Geto..my ship!! That line from Gojou.."My best friend. The only friend I ever had"..That made me feel all types of things. Furthermore, I was of the opinion that they were a trio..with a female..like girl with the heavy eye-bags who is a doctor that deals with corpses...does Gojou not view her as a friend. Man he was such a mess in his youth..honestly he is still that way but man was he wild!! When Getou finally cracked..the reaction Gojou had was so heartbreaking. He toned down after that and their aspirations were changed..he thought that weak people were useless with Getou ideology being that weak people be protected but that's ofcourse reversed as Getou is a villain now. Also, the reason that Gojou could be sealed was because of his love for his only friend..he legit said "My eyes are telling me that this is not real..but my heart.." and that moment of hesitation was all that was needed for him to be sealed.
Legend of the Northern Blade
It is a typical martial arts story with a male lead who is hell-bent on getting revenge against those who have wronged him. What was a surprise tho was how quick he debated whether revenge was really worth it and at least thought if not considered about living a normal life in hiding. The Central Alliance and the Northern Sect, two organisations that were supposed to be side by side ended up in such position. The former created the latter by summoning (?) martial masters from across the globe to battle against the 'Silent Night'. But in the fourth generation that is the MC's father gen, the Silent Night supposedly disappeared after centuries of fighting countless battles, soon after there was internal struggle or dispute over control of the mainlands. The Northern Heavenly Sect had grown too powerful so the Central Alliance devised a plan that was possible through the betrayal of the brothers (not biological) of the Northern Sect leader. Politics..ugh..such is the way of the world both in reality and fiction. They are more concerned for themselves over the safety of the world and the people. They were granted the highest status befitting the role they played in the murder and framing of the Northern Sect leader. Tho it is an open secret that they collaborated as the leader was an honest man famous for that trait. I don't wanna dictate everything cuz noone but me will read it so just a review is enough. The Silent Night were said to be the perpetrators but that seems to be an assumption following how the story progresses. Also the MC while being OP is not the top dog. There is potential romance between him and Ha-Seol ( the next in line for one of the position of the Four Demon Lord of the Silent Night), he even named his Bewitched Sword after her so..My fav characters are between his Uncle, love his loyalty and dedication, and his first blade (?) who swore allegiance to him and spread the word that the MC was dead and supported him in the shadows.
