Roses and Champagne
I read the first two chapters or so a while back, and I liked it. The premise is interesting. The uke is reckless, what person in their sane mind would just barge into a mafia's den? Our uke..He is a righteous person fighting tooth and nail for his client..there are mafias pulling the strings in this specific case and of course it's our seme.. Update (27/02/23): I have read upto ch30 and I have to say it was completely different from how I imagined it would be. The seme is smitten for the uke from the get go. He is so patient with him that it's actually funny..like the uke slapping him randomly and him just sitting there stunned. The uke is a firecracker, the way he behaves is akin to a YA female character, with him being very irrational, not thinking things through and getting upset over the most minute things. Is there a mystery to why the seme cares so deeply for the uke? Besides..the seme is not as heartless as I imagined him to be, I mean he DID pull up a gun on a child BUT..Him using the uke as bait and as a way to lure people out, a traitor within their midst. When uke found out about this, he was upset. He is starting to catch feelings... Also the seme does not force himself on the uke as well. That's such a strange thing, not me rethinking all the YAOIS I have watched..Their first kiss, he asked in exchange for providing him with the document he needed. Him inviting him to his house to help him and breaking his scooter so he could stay over his house..all of his antics are adorable(?) The cousin..I don't hate him but he gotta prove himself. UPDATE (10:15) same day️ Well, I have read upto ch50 currently and the seme has raped the uke by now. It was not as brutal as I thought it would be, there were no blood and he was gentle with him even though he was rough..I don't know how to explain it. Maybe my standard is all fucked up ever since I read that manhwa where the top forced himself on the bottom without prepping so the bottom was dripping blood *shudders*( Waterside night). So we can deduce that the seme being the Tsar comes with a painful childhood, he even confessed to being kidnapped three times as a kid until he could learn to escape on his own. Also my theory of them having some type of connection in the past was totally thrashed..it seems the top has fallen for the bottom completely through their many interactions and has been interested since he first met him. The cousin is a shady motherfucker, him being so happy go lucky and being so attached to his cousin was a result of him trying to outthrow him. He also didn't kill the uke when he has the chance, it was a plan conjured by the two cousins. But he put poison on it for extra insurance..he knows how to attach himself to those in power and has no loyalty, a slimy bastard. When the uke threatened him, it made me smile like a proud mom. The sniper dude is interesting..he moves according to orders yet he seems to have his own agency as well. He is an enthusiast for spilling blood, him giving his contact info to the uke was..ugh tearworthy. The father is not as bad as I thought, it seems that's a common theme in this manhwa. Very half-ass characters, it seems the author did not want to fully commit to the characters mental psyche, past traumas, give substance to the characters..it is implied but not the whole story. That's a very safe approach. The seme is very callous in love so he doesn't know how to express himself though his actions betray his disguise. I was actually surprised at how patient he was towards the uke, like he gave him so many chances until he finally snapped. The bottom line was the uke trying to escape Russia, then he shot him in the stomach and leg and raped him for a week straight while giving treatments at the same time. He was so rough yet he held onto him so tightly and saying stuff in a daydream like "When I found you, there was no use in you attempting to escape" or "I will not allow you to leave my sight"..Also the way his hands trembled when he touched him or he froze when the uke said "Do you think I will be able to forgive you?". UPDATE (1/3/23) 12:18 am - So the main story is already completed now and the side stories are the only thing left. But I like how the uke still addresses the raping and shooting thing and how he himself has a problem since he is able to still be with him and likes him still. Also the prospect of marriage is inconceivable to him since his mom waited for his dad who left them for some unknown reason and her last words were to him as well so...Never knew the fountain pen he used to threaten the seme was the last piece of the 14 pens in his collection. How he met the uke was also told from his POV..a series of unlucky things happened to balance the sheer luck he would bring...the fact that he could not sense the uke and thought it to be his last day but turned out to the one he obsess over....also his size is way too large..very scary. Also how the uke passes out several times yet he keep going and doesn't seem to be satisfied with him going on and on about how he is holding it in. He proposes to him and asks for the 14th pen as a gift, that's cute. The cousin confuses me. His dad is a menace. Also how his heart pounded in the last panel as he says to his cousin "I will let you in on a little secret. When he looks at me like that, I am unable to resist him"
She's The Older Sister Of The Obsessive Male Lead
Okayyy..the story is all over the place and nothing seems to make sense. The way the brother immediately changed was unrealistic to say the least, and there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason for his obssessive nature. He has loving parents and a good older sister so I don't know where the problem lies. He was the same as a child it seems like. How did the old him feel about the sister?
Shadowless Night
The art style reminds me of 'Trash of the Count's family' albeit a bit smoother. The diction also isn't the best, tho I can understand what they are saying, some words are missing and the panels can be messy sometimes. I hope our MC doesn't fall in love with ML first cuz we can already tell they have history. So I am praying we can see girlboss moments but romance, that can be in the background but not in my face. The dynamic with MC and his younger brother is superior, The way Raymond cares for her being compared to that of a Godfather..the accuracy!! All in all, good read..
Jungle Juice
It's under the same name in Webtoon but a chapter short of this one..so season 1 is completed and the second season won't start till next year..that's a shame. After bingeing it, I loved it but if I were to read it week to week, I might think differently. The MC got on my nerves at first NGL. Also his character development was so fast and sudden and felt so out of place that I had to make an active effort to continue reading this. The characters are stereotypical but that's not a complaint. I'm not mad about the romance aspect for once, that's rare. My fav character at this moment would be Professor Ji, love that man. The villain's tbh don't scare me in the slightest, it maybe also be due to the setting but when the villain's appear I'm just like :| The plot isn't the most complex and frankly the title seemed wacky as heck but I'm glad I decided to give it a try cuz it was a good read.
Your Majesty, Please Don't Kill Me Again
Kind of like 'The lady I served is a young master' but a tad different. With how many chapters I've read, I would imagine the MC's and ML's relationship be a lot more advanced than what it is rn. But the ML is still cautious around her and still hides things, Tori seems to take precedence over our Lori. The relationship between Tori and our prince is so intriguing aa well. When Tori tried to kill the racoon, I was very shocked but I guess some hints have been sprinkled here and there. The MC still holds a grudge over the killing of her entire family by the ML in her first timeline or life but she also admits to her family's faults and accepts responsibility. I am going to point out the elephant in the room..her brother likes her. And I don't know how to feel about it. I guess they are not blood siblings and logically it isn't disgusting as he didn't harbour these feelings being oblivious that they aren't "real" siblings, it was his first memories of life finding out that they weren't blood related. So growing up, he didn't see him as his sister so the incest isn't as strong. Btw Roche pisses me off why is she like so backhanded in everything Lori related? She has to brag about her brother in front of her trying to make their relationship superior to the siblings.
Taisho Wotome Otogibanashi Spin Off
A spin-off to my favourite manga of all time!!(in slice of life). It seems to be cooking related. I read upto ch15 currently and some parts of the og manga was cut out and the cooking process is so detailed and precise and ot centers around that.
Who's mr.president
I like it..it's fresh and exciting. It's an Indonesian manhwa, isn't it? I'm not surprised as Indonesia along with other south-east Asian countries look favourably to Korea. At first I thought it was a manhwa but the names made it clear it was some other south-east Asian country, my guess leaned towards Indonesia instantly. The names are so similar to Indian names, it's uncanny. About the plot : It's more structured than I expected but it is at the level of a shoujo manga afterall which isn't a bad thing at all. I would like more from this type of drama centred plot. The mysteries aren't really mysterious, and the question of who is the Mr President? As is the title is not that interesting to me. It's like Pretty Little Liars but Asian version with less stakes. The MC is an upright and logical character who uses her head to get out of icky situations, she gets flustered easily but able to think clearly and make logical decisions and arrive at a conclusion that is satisfying. The ML is cute, I actually read this because of a YouTube short where the ML is wearing glasses waiting for MC who just graduated or giving a speech of some sorts? The comments praised this manhwa to the moon and back also what they said about the MC being logical made me curious because only Lord knows how rare that is.
To a New Life
It's another dungeon-esque manhwa with a male main character. It's not too different from the rest in this genre while having its own charm. The MC falls into the OP trope who is alpha like already. What I typically hate about MCs like him is they are already so pompous and a dictator who imposes their will on people. Deciding things on their own to find out if they are useful to do their bidding. Also they become so annoying to follow like everything in this world was made for them. I don't know if this MC will be like this but I hope not, I already dropped a manhwa for sharing the problem of that type of MC. As much as I love SCOG, I hated the MC who was a pervert being chased by women and not denying any of their advances and he always fell into this erotic situations that are so stupid. The priestess turned out to be his pick in the end but his ex who stood by his side all this time, I feel pity for tho she kinda sus. On the other hand I have some kind of hope for MC. He clearly has a woman he fancies, hope it won't turn into a harem situation like SCOG. I am quite positive it might not turn out that way cuz he slapped that priestess hand out of his face when she touched him. That minor gesture gave me hope that he will be different..faithful and loyal. Update : I finished upto chap60, exactly where season 1 ends. I love his dedication and loyalty to the fl. Good for her honestly. 'I will clear all obstacles in your path, defeat all enemies and give you the throne and when the time comes, make me your King, my Queen' he says while kissing her hand. I do hope they can keep the balance between romance and action, we all know most manhwas run into that problem all too often * I am looking at you ' The beginning after the end'*
The Knight of Embers
I love everything about this. First of all, the characters are spectacular. The MC is amazing, he is lacking in so many things but that is compensated for his one useful asset : his brain. The way he maneuvers through situations by reading the situation, people, expressions and body language, tone and arrive at a sound conclusion is a sight to behold. I don't even try to think anymore, whatever Nagyun says, I'm like 'Yep'. At least more people know about his identity now so the risk is significantly reduced. The plot itself is pretty solid. He is trying to enact revenge or vengeance whatever you call it to the murderers of his prodigy brother, Najin whom he assumed the identity of. Further down the line, we find out Najin might be a member of 'The Descendants of the Dragons', and he betrayed them so therefore he was killed. But there has to be more to it, right? They called him 'A child of the fire' so he must therefore be extinguished. The fact that Najin sacrificed himself for our MC by killing himself with MC's hand since it was the only way to ensure MC's survival is heartbreaking. Also that silver-haired knight was the only one who figured out MC's identify from the get go without any hints. And she seems to deem MC important. So our pal is a descendant of the dragon too..he conveniently lost his memories but when he regain them, he will change, won't he? I like him as he is now. He was implied to be strong from the flashback scene. Also our MC, is he special? Is he actually the 'child of the fire'..it would be incredible if he isn't as that would go against the usual norms of this genre and that itself fits into the theme of this manga. I also love how the MC is not blinded by revenge, he did not leave his companions to die to chase after the people who could give him information on his brother although they were seriously injured. His ability to read people and mimic the 'aura' that only skilled people can sense is so intriguing. No matter how formulaic the plot gets when MC faces hurdles, he overcomes them by bluffing, I look forward to it every single time. It doesn't become redundant. Also Nijin must really love his brother, huh? So why the secrets? Was that his way of protecting him? The way he was enlightened about his power was because the MC was seriously sick and he felt powerless and resolved himself to get stronger to protect him. The theory that Nijin might actually be the one to start the fire in the village and the MC took the blame for it is also highly plausible. The way the MC commands people using psychology and his glib tongue will never bore me. Him analysing situations and acting on it is my absolute favourite. His quick thinking is so attractive. Him being bullied by his brother's "lackeys" was annoying and unpleasant to watch..just why? Blaming a child for that is so wrong. Even the adults, spitting on him, seriously?
