summer season

Complete | 밍구르,절구,이로밀 | 2000 released

It's alright. The translation has its moments but it can still be understood so where's the harm? I wrote a very lengthy review for this a minute ago but my phone switched off and all that vanished. So I won't get into the nitty gritty of this story unfortunately. So the ML is an honour student who used to be a promising judo athlete but after sustaining a leg injury, he could no longer go down that path. After dedicating a year to his studies, he managed to secure the top spot in academics. He has liked Eunho for quite some time, it seems. He even jerked off while smelling his school uniform that he left in his closet. He keeps tabs on him by using his friends to tell him everything, who he hangs out with..girls or guys, when they leave etc to telling them not to take him out after school and go alone. Now this is possible because Dohyun caught them smoking using a key that they were not authorised to have, that too with some chicks. He promised not to out them if they did this task for him. Eventually the cat got out of the bag and Eunho is aware of this. Surprisingly he wasn't that concerned over it and just blamed it over his weird behaviour these past days. They have been together since kindergarten to now high school. Dohyun's parents were in a car accident while they were on a vacation to celebrate their wedding anniversary. That traumatic experience made Dohyun a bit scared of driving so in a very cute and wholesome scene, Eunho told him that he would be the one to have a driver's license and all he has to do was sit quietly on the passenger seat. Albeit that was after he confessed about his fear, when Eunho suggested that he drive them together in the future. Eunho is starting to like him and is aware of his every move now, he gets jealous when he sees him with girls etc. This didn't escape Dohyun's eyes and ofcourse the motherfucker is elated. Him buying him a birthday cake even while he was still angry to hiding it in the corner of his fridge, which Dohyun still found. He even called him to come over to his house and asked about the girl he was with, which Dohyun smiled at and asked if he was jealous. Also when he licked the cream off Eunho's wrist after it got on him, Eunho avoiding eye contact to his clenched fist were all things Dohyun was eager to see. All of these things were enough proof of his attraction towards him afterall. Also Dohyun asking him what kind of house he wanted to live in, if it should closer to school etc was so heartwarming since he already put it on stone that they were going to live together after graduation despite Eunho's worries. Also special mention to the gay friend for staying out of their business eventhough it didn't appear that way initially. I love how bold he is, the reason he transferred school in the third year (which is unconventional) was because of his sexual orientation. All of this he said to Eunho in the span of a minute into their first conversation. He also smokes too with Dohyun's friends..I liked that gap too since it appeared like his friends might be bullying him which Dohyun suspected as well. He also offers a cigarette to Eunho when he asked if that tasted good. Now this didn't fare well for Eunho because 1) he coughed since it was his first time smoking 2) Dohyun witnessed this scene. The reaction that Dohyun had was very interesting. He asked to meet in the rooftop, locked it upon arriving which put Eunho on edge and made him wonder if he was going to get beaten up. He also comments that he should have just told him if he wanted to smoke. He offered his cigarette to him(he smokes btw) and told him to suck (uhhmm sir?) The sexual connotation is off the roof in this one. Ofcourse Eunho got even more angry than he already was and stormed out of there after coughing due to inhaling the smoke. This episode was right after they got into an argument after Dohyun outed him to his parents about him smoking and that was the reason they fought.

A Tree Without Roots

Ongoing | LAPO | 2022 released

Read upto Ch5 and it honestly is a decent read. The plot is not too generic but I was surprised at the age gap between the seme and the uke (9 years). The uke was 28 when the seme was 19. The link between them would be that the uke sponsors him through his adoptive parents, tho they misuse that money and abuses him. He had a mother who used to drop him off at a church (he said sister in one of the flashbacks) who later died in a fire at the church where he was rescued by the uke. The uke has scars in his back which is supposedly from this scenario since the seme asked to see his back when they talked on the hospital. The seme has a female friend, who is always by his side, and who eventually as it turns out notifies the uke on his day-to-day activities in exchange for money (for her mom's surgery). She is a good person tho, as she sincerely expresses her worries and apologised. She even offered for him to stay at their house which the seme refuses. The seme mentally is not there. There are already signs of the 'psycho seme syndrome'. He is also very smart, as he is able to deduct things at a glance and has fair reasonable skills. He observes the uke and even his surroundings. Even him going to the rooftop was him testing out who was calling the police everytime since he did it so frequently that no-one took him seriously anymore. He set fire to his adoptive parent's house (rightfully so) in order to lure the uke out. Also, on finding out the uke is gay, what would be his reaction? Since the guy that the uke dates was the one he met in the elevator who thought that he was a thief. He was also mad that the uke referred to him as some kid he took pity on, and he also found out his profession (a lawyer).

I like an easy read. This gives you exactly what you would expect from this genre. The MC is like a child, forcing his ways through things. There seems to be some force that is controlling things from behind-the-scenes, I suspect that light coloured hair bitch that is shown from time to time. I don't really care for Raven, but he is central to the story since as the best hunter in Korea, he inspired many hunters and is a role model for many. The secret class that Baphomet is now a part of suits him. I like his dynamic with the Chief (?) too. Raven's younger brother is very interesting and a potential friend/rival. Also I love how Baphomet came to care for the group of men who followed him. It was also due to that he awakened. I loved him as a monster, and I love him as a human too. His wish to become a human since he was trapped in that room for as long as he could remember was granted when he killed Raven. He was mistaken as the hunter who killed Baphomet (himself) then when it was later found that he had no powers, he was called a fraud even though he never claimed such thing. The quack doctor, I would like to meet. Seriously exploiting the naive Baphomet is a crime. Also his legal name being the name of one of his followers who essentially gave him the right to his name, since it was so grand as he was killed. It shows his personality, I wonder what his parents would think of that. I read upto Ch10 and the mentor dude is pitiful as hell. He loves his wife so much. The wifey though in the process of saving a woman while she could save herself by using the slip given by her hubby (that would transport her to the evacuation area) died. The woman saw the slip and used it for herself while apologising. Thus the mentor formed a deal of some sort to being her back to life and the crime he is involved with for that is what the MC and his team are investigating.

Stalker's Game

Complete | TAN | 2000 released

I loved this more than I should. It has been a long time since I read it, but honestly I remember every detail. I won't go into talking about the plot or the characters since I don't feel like it. Honestly the concept was already very interesting to me, a stalker that does everything for u that one might deem tedious. That's a damn convenient thing, ain't it? Until it isn't. See...it messes with his mind. The MC leaves it alone until it gets to the point that it goes beyond that, beyond just cleaning his dishes, he appears before him, texts him, interferes with his life. The MC was already depressed so all this was a lot to him. Also, the stalker to noone's surprise has a mental illness. Yeah..stalking isn't a normal thing, who would've thought? He has a twin, who also stalks(?)/annoys another co-worker of his who opens up about it to the MC. When he first saw the MC, he couldn't understand since he seemed so lifeless unlike the one he annoys...who is a spitfire. The two eventually attains a happy ending since they fulfill eachother's needs. The tables turned (how the turned tables..) on the stalker when his twin helped the MC out to do the same thing he did to him. But he was happy at first, since he interpreted in his psychotic mind as him doting on him, giving him food, feeding him(since he was tied up!!). Until he started ignoring him, being indifferent to him then he started crying and being vulnerable. He was just like a child. I kinda felt pity for him and found him adorable (I know that's sickkk but..). Anyway, it was perfect in my eyes.

The Baby Concubine Wants to Live Quietly

Ongoing | 예마로 | 2019 released

Such a tempting title and a big thumbs up on the cover page Okuuurrr...it's aight. I do like her attitude, she doesn't act like a child and has her guards up. Her inner monologues are what u would expect from someone in her position, not some person simping over their potential killer's look. She completely adjusts to the body she possesses and in her flashback, she looked the same (so there might be something more to it?). And it seems in contrast to how the concubines treat her in the novel, they care for her and pity her. Sounds awfully convenient but heyyy...you do you. The translation could be better. Is the emperor a woman? Why does it refer to the Emperor as 'her'? And the concubines are male and female. So is the setting that advanced to have male concubines in the open? And supposed that person with the blindfold is a woman. How about Garam? I'm 100% sure that it's a male. There is upto 9 chapters currently

I’ll Become the Tyrant’s Tutor

Ongoing | Chae yoohwa,Seop,Chae yuhwa , Dusch , Marucomics | 2021 released

Maybe one day? Yeah..no..this was a waste of time. Like what in the Wattpad is this? The MC is a dunce who utters the most cringey lines that can be summarised as 'I'm 14 and this is deep'. Y'know what I mean? The plot is basically Beauty and the beast..with some twitches. The King who loves beautiful things held a banquet where people present gifts to him, beautiful gifts ofcourse but amongst the beautiful gifts was a single rose. The King was furious over this and fumed at the hooded figure with the most beautiful pair of eyes. The mysterious figure tried to tell the king that a rose too can be beautiful since it was beautiful to him, but the king didn't listen and ordered his knights to kill him but to gouge out the pair of eyes. The hooded figure was angry at his impudence and cursed him..along the lines of ' A person whose world is filled with black and white will appear and stain your world with red'. The King didn't heed his warnings then the ML was born who was the 8th prince, he was the most beautiful person so he was favoured by the King who liked beautiful things. Until he learned to speak that is, they soon learned that he was colour blind. The King tried to fix this by bringing in painters to teach him and the MC is one of those painters. She is isekai'd btw, though none of her previous knowledge is utilised except for her being the author of the plot so therefore she feels responsible and that is the justification for her seemingly doing everything for the male lead. The ML is not a standout, the villains are dumb as fuck.. especially the 6th prince. Also the MC just saying things that she should not know was dumb, like the fact that the prince can see red cuz he felt hatred towards the King. When asked about this, she said it was because of his nanny but if the prince were to ask the nanny, wouldn't that negate everything and make him doubt her even more? Also the nanny won't lie to him since she is very protective towards him and would view her as an enemy among other things. The prince is starting to take a liking to her but she is dense to it, while saying shit 'I will stay by your side' and 'Just you and I, in another place...' etc. And she does this all while trying to match him up with a girl with black hair and red eyes. It was the last sentence/description that she wrote of the supposed female lead. I read upto Ch15 and it was a chore to get through. Dropped.

The Precious Sister of The Villainous Grand Duke

Ongoing | Eclair,Lunaheng | 2019 released

Nice read not the best...a bit repetitive..but okay. Maybe this deserve more description. Okayyy... here goes. The MC is isekai'd as per usual as the adopted daughter of the Lagrange, the villains of the novel which she is reincarnated onto. This is a secret but the fact that she does not have the shadow ability that is the identity of the Lagrange can be questioned. The ML is her elder brother, not the real bio one that is the ML of the novel but the villain of the story who is also whipped for the female lead. Awfully convenient.. ain't it? It is common for siblings to kill eachother for the heir position so the MC was unsafe even as a baby from the get go. But the villain saved her..although not for some grand reason like the kindness of his heart. It was imperative for the selection of the heir for the final stage to kill the one they treasure the most. So he planned on killing her when that day comes. Ofcourse that didn't happen. If it did..what a plot twist it would be. The villain grew attached to her and she to him. Also Anissa's bio family is trash except for her big bro who cares for her somewhat. What else? Oh! The og fl is one deranged bitch, a delulu I tell you...she considers herself to be the main character, the saviour if you will (although it is correct initially). She acts very self-righteous and says that Dietrich and her are destined but when push comes to shove, she considers him to be dirty and refused to help when Anissa asked for her help. Also the demon that Dietrich is bonded with...a grower for me. He cares for him. But the demon that made the curse on Dietrich obsolete was the demon that fell for og fl's mother and inturn was cursed so he bitter as hell now. He made it so that Dietrich would not die an early death in exchange for Anissa offering everything she had to make to ensure that he was alive. But he made it so that everyone forgot about Anissa and that she ever existed except for Dietrich. So Dietrich inturn offers him his soul but he responds with 'Do you think that's enough?' so...Oh Anissa forgot everything as well, she thinks she is reincarnated in the novel (which she is) but no recollection of her time as Anissa. She is now a maid with the same description as Anissa except for her blue eyes. Also that lecherous noble is not it. What more? Oh the Lagrange are a respected family now and the Shadows are no more..which the MC is confused about since it was originally a war story and she found it strange that Anissa did not exist. In the last chapter that I read, Ch94 she met with Dietrich in a field of garden and she tripped (are we surprised?) so he helps her. She first mistook him for a kidnapper since her fellow maid warned her of it so as she tried to run suddenly she tripped. Dietrich helps her, and she asks why he is here not knowing his identity..gurlll and he says that he is looking for his lover.

Dr. Player

Ongoing | | 2019 released

I enjoyed this. It was engaging although it feels flimsy at times with the MC falling into the 'I only care about money' mindset. All those faces he makes pisses me off too. The character development is non-existent as of now but hope is there for improvement. His first pupil is a puppy..so adorable. He misunderstands him to be some type of saint that only serves the people without caring for himself. Though the MC isn't a complete douchebag, I wish the author would just make him out to be a good guy instead of doing in a round about way of him acting this way for his selfish reasons yet a bit of consciousness prickle him when he makes an error in judgment. Also despite being an illegitimate prince, there seems to be some type of secret to his birthname 'Penin'; his mother's surname. That shady character mentioned something about his emerald eyes that some family possess so...it has to be him. This is a cliche I can get behind. I hate that the 'Iron steel' skill deprives him of development when he's anxious or loses his composure. He has been in situations like that so often now, you would wonder how he manages to be so all over the place till now.

Doctor’s Rebirth

Ongoing | Taesun dobin | 2019 released

This is surprisingly up my alley. Tbh though I enjoy this type of 'cultivation' esque manhwas/manhuas..it tends to be overwhelming with the amount of information being dumped. Also, if you've read one, you have read all. It is basically the same shit in different format. I do like the master-disciple connection going on, and the sworn brothers bit. The MC faces success after sucess though tribulations come in insignificant forms. Him healing the master happened surprisingly sooner than I expected. I also like that he isn't a douchebag and has a moral compass unlike other MCs. He does struggle between being a doctor and a martial master but he considers himself a doctor first and foremost. He is also incredibly mature and has an objective and logical outlook on life. I didn't see him becoming that attached to his Master but with the context that he was an orphan and all, it does make sense. He wonders if this is what it feels like to have a parent as his master pats his head. Up until now there are no love interest overtly. His friend could be one or that younger sibling of the something clan (sorry I can't keep tabs on everything) . What more? I like the dog

Legendary Youngest Son of the Marquis House

Ongoing | Kei | 2022 released

This single-handedly cured my exasperation of this genre. Most of it from male-leads but female-leads as well, everything felt formulaic so I guess I like how straightforward this manhwa is being. I don't like how the male lead sees people as chicks or underlings but he atleast has five people he cares for now : Ron, Master, his sister, Charlotte and the bulky crybaby. He spares no expense for them. The plot is generic at best and it follows the typical cultivation method of Chinese novels but in place of that is mana and sword aura. The MC still possess the skills he has but not as proficient as he used to be and the longevity is halved. I hope to see his sister as a brand new person after the trigger has been placed. Their father is trash, so fucking narrow-minded. He has his eldest child who has the potential to become a master in his grasp but because of his idiocy, their family fell into ruins. Just because she is a girl, she didn't inherit her family name(?) And became the plaything for the royal family. Her younger brother parades around young lords asking if they want to bed her just to gain their favour. Jack cares deeply for his sister but he is a realist and makes preparations for his sister's change. I think his Master is the one he cares for the most, his sister comes second probably then Ron probably. The last two are interchangeable. His master is such a fascinating woman and would be the usual MC for other manhwas I feel.
