Back to School

Complete | Oryu | 2019 released

Finally an author calls out annoying possessive behaviour tropes and calls him out like he is, a toxic ex who ruined Chiwoo’s life and needed to go get therapy. Glad he’s gone and that Kyujin and Chiwoo get to live their best lives. Their time together was the best part I just wish we got more time with them instead of weirdo love triangle shenanigans, that’s the only reason why I can’t give this one a 5 star. I feel like the author just dragged that sort of the story and gets really annoying to a point but other than that I can see why this is considered a favorite. 7.5 out of 10

At the End of the Road

Complete | Haribo | 2016 released

I can’t see why people would like this one. I feel like their relationship is just too toxic for me to the point the romance pretty much came out of nowhere. We hardly ever see Woojin act like he’s in love with Taemin despite him ‘’being head over heels’. He never acts slightly awkward, blushes, nothing, all we see him do is just force himself on Taemin. Him leaving to get stronger for Taemin was kind of… weird, but I guess he was a kid so maybe that mentatilty makes sense to a 9 year old or sumthin, but idk why he didn’t just yk go to get physically stronger, that makes more sense. He’s honestly just a dirtbag and never really changes, Taemin is just expected to change to adjust for Woojin’s ‘needs’ and abrasive personality insteaed of Woojin adjusting for Taemin cuz he’s yk, supposed to be in love with him. I get the backstory of the both them being born to abusive homes and how they ended up, only for both of them to end up in abusive home again, but I felt like the story should’ve focused on that, because that was where it was strongest. Woojin could have been a quiet, brooding teen but he shouldn’t take it out on people, cuz he just looks like an a**hole for no reason. His backstory should only explain what he does not excuse it. (Notice how these authors love to make these terrible characters and then randomly drope sad backstory lore after they do deplorable acts to try and make up for it.) I get that Taemin slightly liked him, but there’s that and just having no backbone. Which honestly Woojin a worst person cuz he takes advantage of how Taemin has never truly experienced affection or romatinc attention, and intimacy to catch him off guard. And after they get together Taemin just goes deep into tsundere mode and I hate tsunderes I’m sorry. Pretty much all the characters are all insufferable or one-note, the only ones I kind of enjoyed is Minjun and Hoon although their weird master/slave dynamic they have is just… no. Anyway I feel like the more I talk about this the less I like it. I was right in dropping it but I’m glad I actually know it’s trash now. 3 out of 10 It only gets an extra point because the art is absolutley gorgeous and they have some beautiful dynamic scenes.

Bro I don't even know how to feel about this chief. That mom f-ed up that kid. It's just so sad. This is like if boy moms had a horror movie. Stuff like this is so easier to read than horror with scary creatures or occult-ish stuff. Because the scariest thing in this world are people. Even just seeing her loom over him in public spaces or the fact she's just in the same house is just terrifying. There's no scary violins or 'dun dun duns' when your parents abuse you in real life, it's just them and you, and that's probably scarier. I'm glad I read this tho, but man it just left me lowkey numb and emotional at the same time. You just feel for Seiichi. I know that he did end up murdering Shigeru when he was finally trying to get better, but it wasn't his fault, he was definitely in some form of psychosis and experiencing schizophrenia to a certain extent. And I mean his mother YEETED HIM OFF A CLIFF, so I think it's fair to say that would mess up something in his head to a certain extent. I'm glad that even though they explained Seiko's actions (I won't even grace her with the title of mother) they didn't excuse it, because she really hurt people, she killed people, even though she was hurt herself, there was no excuse for it. I don't even know if I can reread this because it's just such a hard read, but I think it's one that both parents and kids need to read. Although my only gripe is that in some areas it's just crude for no reason. It's real and it just makes the story hit home harder, but like I didn't really need to see 13 year olds try and bone on my screen or jerk off- I could've done without that. I get why those scenes were there, but it was just too much for me. Either than that I really like this manga, I like stories that leave me feeling emotional.
