Koukai no Nai Jinsei wo
A profound story. The author portrays that the boy has no resentment towards people who treated him badly and he just simply wants to move on from that life. It makes sense to me. After death, I would also like to leave everything behind instead of hanging onto loose ends.
True Beauty
Read on Webtoon. I don’t know why people are reading it on here as I myself read it on Webtoon before dropping it. It’s shocking how terrible this story is. Jugyeong, an ugly girl can change her appearance after applying makeup. There’s a shit load of cliche and overused tropes in this manwha. Love triangles, breakups, stalking, drinking, jealousy, I can go on. She meets some hot men at her school and surprise, they all fall in love with her despite her insignificance in personality. The romance is downright distasteful and I can’t find a deep connection between the main characters because they simply fell in love without reason. There’s a bunch of unnecessary drama that results in no character development, ugh. There’s really nothing special about Jugyeong, Suho, and Seojun except for the fact that they have good looks. I can’t even suspend my hatred for Jugyeong. She’s so annoying, dislikeable, and basic. If she became a real human, I would punch her on sight. I can get why many people like this manwha. It’s obvious that many girls want guys like Suho and Seojun to fall in love with them even though they are no where near good enough. At this point, the author is dragging it out for too long. The plot is basically nonexistent as I prefer stories with one main conflict. Art is great but some parts are drawn in a lazy manner. Terrible. Hard pass for me.
It’s Neither Windy or Rainy, and nor Is It Clear
The art is nice but the storyline is really boring. The characters talk like robots and have quite literally zero personality. Their dialogue has no fluidity. Really basic romance story. Can’t bring myself to read further than chapter 6 so I’m dropping this.
Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki
Basic love story about two high schoolers. The art is really nice and Ichimura is really my type. Piercings, long hair, good humor, rich, I don’t think he missed any of my checkboxes. I really like the appearance of the female lead too, it’s different and she’s got a charm to her. The development is very slow between the characters. One step forward to a better relationship and then a hundred steps backward at the same time. The fact that the female lead rejoices every time the male lead touches her kind of annoys me but I suppose it’s like that with romance manga. Not bad.
The Horizon
I don't know where to begin. I didn't know how difficult it would be to compose a review for this. War, it is a painful subject for me. I did not cry, yet this story twisted my heart. The Horizon, written by Jeong Ji-hoon, masterfully depicts the emotional toll of war and conflict. Each chapter took me by surprise, shattering me into a hundred pieces, only to rebuild me in a new shape. The story follows 2 children, a boy and a girl, who became friends in the midst of an almost apocalyptic warzone. The story building revolves around a collection of simple dialogue, yet I found meaningful discussion behind the minimalistic words. While it is short, I conclude that it is worth reading. I saw most of the author's message from the boy's thoughts in the last chapter. Life is unfair. Humans are always in conflict, not just in war but also in simpler arguments among friends and family. Humans all die in the end, they will cease to exist; so what is the point in being born at all? Why experience such hardship for nothing? The answer---or my interpretation to it, is simply "Love". The happiness that humans experience when they are with their loved ones. Despite all the bloodshed throughout humanity, some humans will always find a way to make peace with one another. These emotions, whether big or small, are the reasons why we continue to live despite the hardships. These emotions made life a bit more bearable, and somehow pushed us forward even if our lives are ultimately meaningless. Death will come, but for now it is simply better to live life with love and happiness. I noticed the Christian reference, the hand with a hole reaching out to the boy, symbolizing Jesus saving him. A common saying among Christians, "Jesus is Love." To live, is to love. So let it be just that, the answer, is Love.
Absurd Theory
Well. That was weird. It feels like the author purposely wrote a story that ended up going nowhere. Although I suppose dreams end that way, with no explanation or closure. I liked the initial idea of relationship between a guy who dreamt intensely and a girl who could not. But it seems like the guy wanted someone who could not dream at all, and he was displeased when the girl was finally able to dream. I think the guy wanted her to completely rely on him, perhaps he wanted her to be jealous of his ability to dream. I don’t know, it didn’t make any sense. I don’t really care for the second story. It could’ve been a collection of stories, with each story being related to dreams. How disappointing. The art was very nice. I admired the light tones and streaky texture. The coloring has a lot of negative space, but it preserved the integrity of the colors. Such a unique artstyle, it’s nice to see every once in a while.
Wings Manhua
“I have wings. I can touch the floating dreams that call me from afar. Through the wind, Take me.” The beauty of short pieces like these are that they’re meant to portray an emotion. You may wonder about this girl’s backstory, however you are still sympathetic for her. It’s profound.
You Haven't Changed
I hate the composition. The panels are squeezed together and it feels messy and even makes it a little difficult to read the text. I guess the short chapters help a little bit with that issue. Yet that is also a problem. I get frustrated because it takes forever to update and once it does update, the chapter is like 10 panels. I like the dynamic that the female lead & male lead has. Yamane is kind of a pushover but she isn’t overbearing and I enjoy seeing her being flustered. Taguchi is very handsome.. with piercings. Black haired male leads have no substance, but with piercings.. he’s my type. I’d only recommend reading once it’s been completed.
Studio Cabana
You know, I gave this manga a chance because the concept of people connecting through music is very precious to me. But this misses the mark by miles. First of all, did you think the readers would ignore the pedophilia? Yuusuke is only in high school while Haruki is an adult and yet they’re spending nights together. Fucking disgusting. I’m not blaming Yuusuke because he’s only a minor, and he’s being taken advantage of by Haruki who is CLEARLY using him for his body. I really hate types of characters like Haruki. Just die. But I’m not defending Yuusuke 100%. He fucking KNOWS that he’s not a serious partner to Haruki and yet he still clings to her. Why? Are you stupid, Yuusuke? Get used to being love bombed. On top of that, none of the main characters are likable. Out of everyone, I only like Erina and Dai-san. Maki is a fucking pushover and I cringe so hard whenever she blushes over Yuusuke. Oh don’t even get me started on Yuusuke with his tsundere act or something. I get he has some trauma from a girl dumping him but his backstory his dumb in retrospect. Oh I have defend Maki somewhat because when Haruki said “Are you one of Yuusuke’s fangirls? You like him, don’t you? You’re just chasing after a facade after seeing his handsome face.” Something like that. Are you.. deaf? Maki LITERALLY said that she was Yuusuke’s classmate that was supporting his band. You’re the one chasing after a facade. Oh, it’s already so predictable, Haruki-san. Yuusuke will leave you for Maki, and all of a sudden you’re desperate for Yuusuke’s attention even though you rejected him so many times. Ugh, I hope your music career perishes, Haruki.
