The Horizon
review: my fucking heart oh my god i didn’t deserve this
From the Red Fog
storyline: rwanda is a child who likes killing things, just like his mother kills people. she doesn’t acknowledge him at all, so part of him kills to be praised by her. one day she’s fatally injured and, through a series of events, rwanda ends up working as an assassin for a fucked up organization reaction: i can’t believe the story just ends like that… what about macalo’s revenge? what about rwanda’s growth as a character? and ivan’s happiness? i feel like i was robbed of so many things
MADK
storyline: a high school boy summons a demon to eat its guts. the demon realizes he's an absolute freak and decides to offer itself for fucking in the most gory, criminal and messy way possible, which turns out to be an incredible experience for the boy. this leads to an existential crisis and a deep fear of himself and the things he's just realized he's into, fearing he'd seek to kill humans to replicate the feelings he just experienced. he decides he's done eating the demon, which leads to the demon reaping his soul as payment for the summon. the boy lives on as a demon, experiencing many other things mere mortals should never come near, until he becomes strong enough to kill the demon who took him to the other side. review: this was absolutely insane but the art was incredible
Dear Gene
storyline: trevor edwards is a lawyer who picks up a homeless young man named gene and gets him off the streets by offering him a job as a live-in housekeeper. gene is a former amish who chose not to return to his village, and instead wants to explore the world. trevor supports him, and loves him throughout the process. review: this is the loveliest thing i’ve read in such a long time omg the characters, the dynamics, the ART………… i love it so much
Neko to Kiss
storyline: erina is a high school girl who accidentally finds out her loner classmate, nekoyama, can transform into a cat when he’s kissed on the lips. somehow, nekoyama decides to move in with her and live as her cat, resulting in a slow(ish) burn romance review: pretty cute, nekoyama and erina’s relationship develops very naturally and i think that it was just lovely (if we ignore the logistics part of having your shapeshifter boyfriend live with you as your house cat)
Shimanami Tasogare
storyline: tasuku, a closeted gay high school boy, is having a hard time at school because of his sexuality. once he's considering ending his life, he meets anonymous, a mysterious woman who owns a lounge up on the hill. at that lounge, tasuku meets different people, with different life stories, self-expressions, and sexualities, and finds his place among his people. review: this was so lovely... the character dynamics, every character's intentions and motivations... everything fit together perfectly into a beautiful story of self-choice, introspection, and self-love and acceptance.
Kanojo Ni Naru Hi Another
storyline: in a universe where boys become girls when there are too little females, a high school boy becomes a girl and denies it for way too long review: interesting concept but not really my thing
Kawaii Hito (saitou Ken)
storyline: hanazono is a 27 year old florist who has a scary face, which makes it very hard for people to approach him. nonetheless, a very cute girl, rika, confesses her love for him, and they start dating. review: very very VERY cute, i loved every arc in this, i simply felt like the story went on for a bit too long lmao
Annarasumanara Manhwa
storyline: ah-ee (ai), a poor high school student who has to work part-time to take care of herself and her younger sister, meets a magician. though she’s wary of him, he seems to keep putting himself in harm’s way to help her. all he seems to ask in return is for her to believe in magic. review: cool art and a great message of not forcing yourself to conform to societal pressures and expectations. still, this was a trip through depressionville and i’m not entirely sure it ever led us back outside
