It never stops hurting. Erwin should've lived but to keep him alive would've been cursing him to suffer even more. I understand why Isayama killed him. I'm not going to say that EruRi is canon or not but if it is, then they have a very painful love story. Tears me up every time I think about how Erwin didn't get to fulfill his dreams and Levi had to live through all of his comrade's deaths I guess I got too attached to them. I love them
