ML is narcissistic and controlling. Won't let MC work because he is rich and has money, threatens to remove the door (they live together is ML is the landlord and they are roommates) is MC tries installing a lock, considers MC pouring someone a drink (MC was being a bartender) equals cheating. Everything the MC does, the ML must approve of it and if the ML wants something, he wants it now and MC gotta give it to him. MC can't have secrets and if ML knows he got some sort of secret, he will do anything he can to get it out. ML is childish and thinks of himself as some sort of sex god just because MC got drunk and came onto him, despite MC always being flirtatious whenever he gets a drink and forced MC to go out with him. Having personal space is not an option for the ML. MC is easily manipulated by the ML due to his good looks despite knowing all of those issues and is shown to really hate it, but ML only need to give MC a kicked puppy look and MC will forgive him.

Abusive and controlling ML who wouldn't take no for an answer. MC escapes for whatever reason in the past which no doubt would be for the ML's sake, ML can't understand why MC left him and hunts MC down, imprison him and chains him up so he won't get away again and rapes him.

Stepbrother is a rapist who doesn't understand "no" and always thought it's a given that he and MC will be together while fucking other women, childhood friend is the "if I can't have you no one can so I will kill you with my own hands" type. One of these guys is the ML and I have no interest in sticking around to find out who will win.

I don't get how in the world this is so popular. It's a super toxic relationship with a super controlling and perverted ML and Stockholm syndrome.

ML used blackmail and manipulation to worm his way into the MC's heart. He broke up MC and her ex (the second ML) by forcing the second ML to choose between his DYING SISTER and the woman he loves. Second ML has no choice but to choose his dying sister (cuz you know...his sister's dying?) and thus ML successfully got MC in the palm of his hand, all because she was such a kind and naive (aka stupid) girl that showed kindness to him. Oh and in case anyone wonders, the whole reason MC and her ex didn't work out is because of money. Nothing else. Just because ex was not rich and powerful enough like the actual ML who could easily provide for the woman he found interesting. Being a good guy from beginning to end means nothing if you got no golden nugget. Because he is not rich enough and got in the way of MC and ML's love, the way of the world (author) decided to give him the bad ending all good people like him deserve. Money is justice in this world. As long as you got money, you get the girl even if you are a piece of non-recyclable trash that will only poison the air after being burned.
