He knows he can die because he cannot control the dark spirits. But he does care about Dorothea at the beginning. He thinks she is beautiful and intelligent and feels flattered that she loves him. He sees her as a wild beast that only allows him to pet her. He believes he can get to love her deeply and they can have a lovely marriage. But his dreams are shattered when she kills Raymond, not only because Raymond 's light spirits helped him, but because he was his best friend. Raymond and Julia were always together since childhood and really loved each other. So in the end, even when Julia dies, Theon hates himself for not being able to protect them, hates Ethan because he thinks he is the real mastermind behind everything, hates Dorothea for becoming into a monster, hates the King because it all started because of his lack of love towards his own children. Let's be real, Dorothea even imprisioned him in the 1st life and killed people he loved, he has a right to hate her. Julia: she loves his friends, Theon and Raymond. She likes Dorothea but she is worried that her jealousy can harm Raymond. For now, she doesn't seem in love with any of them though. In her 1st life, after Raymond's death, she tries everything to help Theon but when she finally finds the Light Spirit Stone (it has the power of the light spirits), which can help Theon to control his dark spirits, she is killed by Ethan. Raymond: in both lives, his most important person is her sister Dorothea, he loves her with all his heart. He resents his father (the King) for the way he is with her but he cannot defy him. He is scared of his father because he knows he is capable of doing anything to Dorothea if he sees her as a threat to Raymond's future throne. He tries to help her in both lives, but in the 1st life, Dorothea hates him so much that she is incapable of seeing it. Dorothea: after the debut ball mentioned in earlier spoilers, Ethan gives her the Light Spirit Stone so she can use it and pretends that she can summond the light spirits, making it possible for her to become heir to the throne, but she doesn't want to. She wants to do things different this time, she has people she wants to protect (her servants, her guards, Raymond, Theon, Ethan himself, etc). Be aware, she doesn't chance overnight, she does want to be queen again but she also hates the idea and is very scared of becoming a monster again. In the end, protecting those that have tragic deaths in the 1st life is more important than the throne. For now, she has the Spirit Stone but doesn't use it. She also starts to be aware of Ethan as a whole, not just her old right hand in the previous life. She sees him as a beautiful and clever man that makes her feel fluster when he is near, the way he looks at her and his sweet and seductive smiles. She is kind of falling in love but doesn't know yet. It's also quite funny because after the ball, when she accepts that her obsessive love for Theon blinded her and that she knew Ethan loved her at the time, she pretended not to see it. We can say she begged for love to a person that didn't love her enough. Fun fact, that same night when she gets back home after the ball, she talks with the servants and they all tell her they knew Ethan was in love with her, that is was very obvious, LOL. Ethan: he loves Dorothea like a madman. In the 1st life, he thinks that if he gets rid of Dorothea's weakness/enemies, she will be able to shine without restraint. He was the mastermind of things actually. But later on, he realices he didn't do the correct thing because Dorothea's obsessive love was beyond everything and anything, so after Theon's death, she loses the will to live. He tries to save her even while threatening to kill her and becoming the King. She doesn't care, she is a shell of the woman she used to be. He practically begs her not to give up, that he will do anything to save her but she wants to die because she considers herself a monster, she tells him exactly that. Just when she dies, a servant that went to get the Spirit Stone from Julia (I think) gives it to Ethan and he finds it ironic that *now* he has the Spirit Stone but it's useless because she is gone. Ethan hates everything related to the spirits because that's the main reason people and the King were against Dorothea becoming a heir and later on, Queen. They saw her as defective. When Dorothea dies, the King of the light spirits is free and needs a new contractor (Dorothea was the last of her line). After some talking, Ethan accepts as long as the Spirit King can bring her back to life. He can but there's a catch, both will keep their memories of their bad deeds. So thanks to that, they all have a second chance. Ethan regrets the things she made her do and really wants her to be happy (even if that involves Theon), to be queen, and to have a wonderful life. When she tells him she doesn't want to be queen again, he feels like a failure and that the only thing he could give her was the opportunity to achieve her dream of being queen. He doesn't realice he's been more of a friend than he imagines and that she is falling in love. It's quite sad because he doesn't see himself as a good partner for her (even if that's what he wishes for), he blames his obsessive love for her death in the 1st life and tries to do everything in his power so she can be happy in the 2nd life. He tries his best not to hate Theon or anyone in her circle of friends. Carnan (the King): he is obsessed with his lineage. He sees Dorothea as a failure and blames her for the decline in power of the royal family. But when Dorothea "awakens" his power, he starts to think of ways of using her, be the future Queen or use her power to restore the royal name to its former splendor. No remorse for now. And to be clear, he is sort of a jerk even with Raymond. He never showed real love to either of them. Like Leoraa posted above, the King dies and before dying, he regrets being a terrible father. But not before that, no remorse or anything at all, he kept being a nasty person until then, putting the royal name above his children's lives. Dorothea doesn't forgive him, she already overcomed that part of her life. She only regrets that things could have been different in another life. But that's it. Also, she becomes Queen/Empress together with Ethan and her brother and friends and even the people are happy about it because she improves the kingdom and make everyone's life better. This time she got her wish because she started thinking about others before her own dreams and desires, making her humble and generous. She was always meant to be Queen/Empress because she really loves the kingdom more than Raymond or their father but given that her 1st life was ruined by her jealousy, hate, obsession, blooshed, etc, she couldn't do any good in the end.
