wanted pirate captain x former slave runaway/prostitute(...?) -uke and his mom were Northern slaves and his mom was dying so she sent him away to the south for freedom -he had no money and no way to get on a ship other than being yeorang, a kind of sea prostitute -he boards the ship and gets cleaned up, but is abhorred by the captain -turns out captain is the son of a family accused of betraying the crown who is searching for a piece of map that will prove the family's innocence(?) -captain was possibly betrayed by a northerner who looks just like mc and struggles w/ taking out his anger on him -mc is pretending to have experience but has none -captain is slowly coming to care for mc and not want him to serve others -mc is slowly learning that he's not a slave anymore but is still confused on roles and is still trying to "earn" his route south
