The character development in this is key. Daath is as immature as he should be at 16 while struggling to be a good older brother and friend suddenly thrown into a fated bond that complicated things even more because of his prickly mate. The conflict was really well written up til that point. The change in conflict from noble family affairs to sudden potential love triangle drama was unnecessary and those chapters could have been better used to address the familial conflict mentioned by Juda's parents and Daath's and Juda's son in the next story, Cuddle. Otherwise, the most consistent plot was well written and this is a very good series.
