Serious Joke

Ongoing | Dobeot | 2019 released

Ok so (commenting two days after reading) this story was very interesting for the reason that the first couple was honestly cringey at times like the mc damn he was so straight forward I was like "EY PEQUEÑA DAMN CHILL A BIT WHAT ARE U DOING" cause their relationship was that of basically strangers who got to know each other by other friends but he was so pushy and he kept pushing the other guy so I was kinda scared that the other guy would get mad af and we would be back to square one but no the other guy was cool with it and it went well except for some times where seok did fuck up a bit. First chapters were kinda hard to bare tbh but as the story went by it honestly got better and fluffier, the main couple had good vibes and they were really cute together altho after they got together they didn't show many scenes of them finally together BUT WHAT PIQUED MY INTEREST was the drama and the good ass plot, cause my boy Jaeha damn what a great great character. His story was amazing, at first you fear him cause he's obviously supposed to be the antagonist and keep ki woon from moving on but oml I was so wrong for "hating" Jaeha at first cause he not only brought the real plot/drama to the story but also this "obsession" he had with ki woon which was so well portrayed, BUT WHAT WAS REALLY THE BEST PART was that Jaeha's family situation was what got you to connect with him, his abusive step-brother and father and his ignorant mother like damn the family situation being so fucked up really created that realism and even justification for Jaeha's actions cause my boy was just trying to find a safe place with someone who truly loved him and respected him for who he was. My boy hyun that man is so good, he was so protective of his friend ki woon 'cause he knew what had happened to him, he kept han seok in his place by telling him not to push kiwoon to his limit, he was so funny with how everyone bullied him lol AND the most perfect person for Jaeha, he was so supportive, understanding and he helped Jaeha in subtle but sure ways with the sun catcher and dream catcher LIKE OMG THATS ADORABLE, he made sure he changed his ways of reacting (like the sigh part) and what he said near Jaeha so he could feel safe, he had the most character development and was truly super mature, he recognized his mistakes AND FIXED THEM, it was so heartwarming how he treated Jaeha. When Jaeha started to rely more on hyun it was so refreshing to see that he trusted hyun, but so despearing how he thought no one could love him so he was still doubtful of hyun's love. THE AIRBUD SCENE OMG it brought so much emotion to Jaeha like it was so full with these strong emotions of hating the brother, seeing how Jaeha was truly miserable but still cared about hyun, how he was trapped in that house, how the family treated him, how he was helpless, agonizing, like it was so hard to read cause it was truly soul-stirring but it just showed so well the life of Jaeha and just really made me feel so sorry for my baby. The second season was the best and only acceptable season cause it was when the story really took this realistic, emotional, interesting and full of drama scenes and when Jaeha and Hyun are finally a couple I like that they kept the realness with how Jaeha still is, his progressing with his mental health but I love that he didn't change in a night, how he's getting better but still has this unbearable anxiety and fear from many years of trauma, but hope Hyun helps him get better and is now his comfort. Seok honestly I understand he was trying to protect ki woon but even knowing Jaeha had a rough time at home HE STILL went to hyun's house and didn't give a shit about Jaehas situation, he really just focused on what he "did" to ki woon which was just a misunderstanding of him killing a cat, pushing him to then break his head (author doesn't really explain why), and being obsessive to the point he came off as "manipulative" cause he said he would be dead if it weren't for ki woon (basically stating that if he left he would die) which understandable but then again u have to see Jaeha for who he is which I hated that ki woon dared to say "I sometimes wished I had never helped u" LIKE NO BABES WRONG ASNWER, its great that u helped him its just that u didn't state your boundries and you didn't help him help himself you just listened to him and helped him urself so thats not really help hence why he depended so much on ki woon. ALSO when the first scene of the cat appeared i was like WHAT THE FUCK but nah it was just a misunderstanding and it showed how innocent Jaeha was cause he was trynna help the kitten. Overall second season was a masterpiece it was so good and I love the couple, first season meh, third season ive got genuinely no idea how its gonna be but I would 10000% read the second season altho it was very angsty but its so so so good 10/10.

Checkmate(TAN)

Complete | TAN | 2000 released

Super nice and interesting drama, the plot was amazing even though the first part was hard to get through cause idk why but I cringed so much lol (people agree it was insufferable lmao), some parts were hard to read cause it was pretty angsty with the whole rape scene and abuse. Soohyun was a pretty interesting character with the inferiority complex which I liked that he kept "hidden-ish" until one random chapter where he just let it all out which I was like "what happened to keeping it cool lol" but I liked his obsession it was just a bit cringey at times. Eungsung, great character with how he managed stuff just wtf with the first rape scene babes, but overall I loved how he was dealing with park it felt very humane and real and the emotions were perfect. Park that motherfucker fuck that bitch I hate him and I'm glad he lost the jury case but overall good character as well just how much of a maniac he was, the author portrayed that really well and I liked the mind games/moves both soohyun and park were creating and how they reacted/acted. Shinhae my baby I love that man he's such a brave and strong character, he really made the whole fiasco with park feel more realistic and he was the strongest character, it just brought that humane part to the story so well and made you connect with every one of the pupils. I loved how the story was detective like, I really enjoyed seeing what the next move for every character would be. This story is more angsty than fluffy but I think it fits it well, also the author was right by saying the song "can't pretend - Tom odell" fits this story (I listened to it while reading). The side stories aren't my favorite but it gives you the fluff you needed after they are finally together. Art wise at first it was very depressing, colour-less and just made it feel boring and hard to read (reason as to why I prob stopped reading when I first tried to read this story) but all throughout that changed and we had more colour (not super bright just enough to fit that melancholia, anguish and distress) although the last few chapters changed completly and didn't fit the characters at all although they looked cuter and flufflier it was just when everything started to resolve but the art made it seem just cutesy which threw me off a bit and I didn't love it cause the proportions didn't seem right. Overall 4/5 just because I had to give it like 3 chances to keep reading, I couldn't get past the 3rd chapter at first but I knew people liked this story and it would probably get better and that aged like fine wine 'cause it got really good and interesting instead of just being about an inferiority complex that was kinda cringe. I would definitely read again but not because of the couple, just because of how good the story's plot was and the climax was super super great too I loved how everything just exploded and came to a resolve. Great writing when it came to the drama but not so much the first few chapters. :)

Hello, how should I start this review.. I honestly really really liked the plot, it took my expectations and guesses and turned them at a 180, I really liked that it wasn't what I thought it would be 'cause that made the story even more interesting. I really really liked that this wasn't so much of a bl but of a genuinely engrossing story. It starts with tae min and si won which have such different life styles, tae min, poor, abandoned, forlorn, but wanted to live and get better, and si won a rich, bullied, wanting to die guy. I liked that both characters had different perspectives and experiences of life. Interestingly enough tho I thought si won was gonna survive in tae min's body and be part of the love interest but to my surprise he died which was even more interesting to see the fight between tae min and his identity 'cause imagine knowing u can never go back to ur body and that it died like wow that was a mind fuck but such a cool detail. The bullying I thought was gonna be a more critical part of the story but it wasn't because si won was gay but because he was raped all because of his twin brother's doing and inferiority complex which was an interesting plot line. Joohon was an interesting character as well and I really liked how he inflicted genuine fear into tae min even when he didn't know joohon but his memories of si won made him realize he was a dangerous person, tho again I thought was because he was an abusive ex or sum but it was actually because the twin brother planned si won's rape and johoon was the one who watched and executed the plan tho he didn't personally rape si won. The author took a 180 with si won cause instead of him being bullied and miserable his past self was actually pretty successful and respected, but after the rumors he became miserable (tho I would've liked to see that part of his story but it was just narrated how he was miserable not so much shown) and thats when he wanted to die. Min jiwoon was a very interesting character 'cause he could recognize tae min right away 'cause of his caring self, habits and because of his pity/worried/loving eyes. I was confused at first of min jiwoon's acts but then I understood everything. I liked how he was desperate to get si won(tae min) to confess he was tae min and how he was sure of it. I liked his back story of how he abandoned tae min 'cause he wanted to become someone who could actually protect tae min. Also I really liked how tae min was abanonded by every family member and friend he ever had so goes to show how even in that kind of misery he still wanted to live which was very inspirational. One thing I didn't love tho was how it was a bit difficult to differentiate from flashbacks to the actual story, I think the artist could've just added a black background to state that it was a flashback we were reading but it wasn't too bad it was just a bit confusing for a second. The art wasn't all that bad it wasn't the best but it was sometimes good so not so much of a problem. The plan where min jiwoon got the twin brother to admit everything was interesting and nice since it was really well planned out how he himself gave the brother the secret photograph. I really liked the story of how min jiwoon only came back to his rich dad's household 'cause the original heir had a terminal illness. I liked tho story overall I would def read it again 'cause it was super riveting to read throughout, the end was nice and yeah overall 4.5/5 only because sometimes it wasn't what I thought it would be but that made it even better imo, idk why but I didn't connect completely but i would def give it a 5/5 but for some reason 4.5 seems right. Anyways I quite liked this story :)

One Night Mate

Complete | Cherry Manju, Justice | 2019 released

It was a good read, super funny at times, love the comedic part, the drama part, the character development, the plot, trauma, just everything was pretty well written and it developed nicely. I liked all the characters they were super fun and comforting, I would 1000% read again, its not my fav manwha but its definetly a super good read to pass the time. Only thing I was like wtf was the open relationship part cause wow thats insane but it developed so well and was used correctly for the plot since it was one of the main issues with the characters. I really liked the whole loneliness arc that was super well written with just the right emotions and I loved how senghyuk managed to heal and learn from it. I liked the dawol he was a nice refreshing character tho I wish the author had added a third season with him and eden cause that wouldve been great enemies to lovers type shit and just yeah I really wanted to see that whole relationship. Woojin was a nice character, I liked how he was apologetic in a reasonable and healthy way, he spoke his mind and was understanding, I liked that he noticed what he said about liking him the most was unrealistic and something he couldnt fulfill/was looking for and that he wanted to be loved as well, not just give love and the part where he thought his feelings werent enough but then realised he couldnt be the only one giving was really nice. Senghyuk was a complex character where his loneliness was fulfilled with anyone but then he notices woojin was the only one who he truly liked and wanted to stay, not just fulfill his emptiness. Like I said the whole conflict and resolution was super well written and just gives a very humane aspect to the characters. Overall I really liked reading this, I would write more but mf my dad needs my laptop lol. but yeah 4.8/5 it was really nice. p.s: eden was also a very interesting character and his conflict was very nice too as well as the resolution and character development. all the characters were great and had a nice function to the story.
