Cirque Arachne

Complete | saida nika | 2000 released

It might be because I have a soft spot for this artist, but they'll always receive 5 stars from me. I felt the same way about Raubritter, the artwork- always beautiful, the characters- always great, the story- has the potential to be incredibly well written if given the time and volumes, but for the short chapters that have been released by this artist, none have ever made me want to not continue reading. The artwork alone is what keeps me a faithful reader. Beautifully written story, albeit fast-paced, full of well written characters booming with personality. I just wish these great series weren't just 6 chapters short. Easy and fast read that you won't regret, beautiful artwork that you'll always remember.

Teiji ni Agaretara

Ongoing | Inui ayu | 2000 released

This manga was really cute, but dang it, if I had a dollar for every time Kayoko or Kaori chose not to speak on their thoughts to the other person, I'd have enough money to buy the damn volume set. Literally every obstacle or challenge either of them faced in this manga was strictly because of a lack of communication. Talk to each other, let the other know how much you love them, let them know when something is troubling you, I never understood the whole "I'll just keep it to myself to avoid hurting you" cliché when that does literally more harm than good, especially if the other person has to find out about it indirectly. One or two times, I can relate, but EVERY time there was a conflict of interest it was because of a lack of communication. Other than that issue, I loved the story. I prefer yuris like these, ones that are cute and fluffy, ones that make my heart flutter. Kayoko was such an innocently cute character and Kaori was such a striking beauty. I really enjoyed reading through this, watching them grow and discover things about themselves and each other, and working through their problems. It tackled adult relationships so well, and I give it high marks for that. I was sad to see it end, but I'm so satisfied with the story's wrap up and conclusion. If there is a chance of this getting a side story, I would LOVE to see Kayoko and her friend Mahiro work through their problems they seem to have. I hate that it ended and we couldn't get closure from Mahiro, who's going to continue her life being in love with her friend who she knows she'll never have a chance with, let alone being able to truly confess to her out of fear of losing their friendship. She's been waiting by Kayokos side for years, I think she deserves happiness of her own so I'm very disappointed on where her story arch ended.

Her Pet

Complete | pito | 2015 released

Very cute story. I liked the concept of where the story was headed, but it's still a little difficult to grasp. I understand the whole "pet" situation, but I didn't feel like this would ever happen, even in a manhwa. The build up between Soha and Gayoon could have been so much better to where it could have lead up to the pet/master relationship after they got closer, but ideally, I don't see that relationship just happening over the simple fact that Gayoon favored her dog. Personally, that would have made the story better in my honest opinion. Regardless, I loved Gayoon's and Soha's characters, they fit hand in hand with one another. One relationship I'm still sort of on the fence about is Sol's and Soo's. Felt a little forced for the sake of love. I'm a little disappointed with Yurim's character, I might be the only one with this option, but I did like her as a character. I'm so glad we got to look at most of the side characters background and see who they were before all of this, and Yurim's character just hit harder to me than anyone's. She was always in the spotlight, always praised, always placed on this pedestal where everyone put her to the point where she started truly thinking she was special- until she wasn't. And when she fell down, she fell down hard. Lost almost all her friends, got suspended, got picked on, rumors spread about her, and she really did try to be the bigger person in the beginning. Does this justify her bullying Gayoon? Absolutely not, but her character didn't get half the justice everyone else got when it came to redemption. For that, I had to give 4 stars. She's been through a lot and hurt people hurt people, I hate that her story closed without her being redeemed when she clearly deserved it, but I can at least get satisfaction in knowing she tried her best with the fight between her and Soha and she accepted her defeat. She at least got closure on that. Overall, this is a very good, albeit, weird story of overcoming troubles, learning to move on, and accepting love. The characters were written incredibly well and the chapters are pretty much all entertaining in terms of drama or action. Definitely worth the read.
