The Real Momoka

Ongoing | Arai Sumiko | 2000 released

I liked this. For one, I always enjoy this author because I really like their artwork, and for two, I freaking love bartender characters and I have no idea why! Also the bartender is so freaking cute! My only criticism is the "I have feelings for you but I won't be honest with you or with myself because I don't want to get hurt, but surprise! I've hurt us both in the process!" Cliché... it's been so outplayed and overdone that it makes all the stories with the same plot unrecognizable and they hardly stand out. Not to say that I don't enjoy that kind of chiche, it's just difficult to pull it off and have a good story, especially with a oneshot. All in all though it was a cute read.

Aikatsu! dj: Things have really progressed since that time we got stupidly drunk

Complete | Tyatubo | 2000 released

Frankly put, this story was so underdeveloped, even for a one-shot. Why were they living together if they weren't together? Why did she drink knowing what would happen just to regret it the following morning? Has the blonde hair girl been feeling the same feelings for her or is she only indulging her because they're friends? I have so many questions and none of them have answers. The most logical thing to do to make this even slightly better was at the very least make them lovers from the beginning. There was no plot to this at all, felt like it was snatched from a side story but only the middle part was used. Has the potential to be a good manga if it had a few chapters, but not so great as a one-shot

30 MINUTES.

Complete | Murasakino | 2019 released

It's hard to give fair ratings on one-shots, because there isn't really much to critique from just a few pages of context, especially one with such short dialog, however, given the small length of this chapter, it was still incredibly cute and simple to read. Not much to gather from the short conversations the two had in the story, and I personally don't care for openings where they throw you into the middle of the story without any context, but all in all I enjoyed reading through it. Cute, yet simple and I appreciate the extra page at the end focusing on the cap and the watch, it made going back to reread it a lot more detailed once you realized why a lot of senses focused on those two objects.

Kanojo-tachi no Natsu

Complete | Murasakino | 2019 released

Are they swimming with their school uniforms on? Outside of that, this short story was very cute. But I guess anything from this author is cute. I'm not a fan of stories left hanging at the end for readers to come up with their own conclusion of what's going to happen, but honestly, it doesn't make it a bad read, I'm just the type of person who likes closure. Even so, I still thought this yuri was very well done. This author always does such a good job making the readers experience the emotion their characters are conveying, and above anything else, that's what I really enjoy the most about reading their works. The mood, the tone, the scenery, everything always fits so perfectly together for the story that's being told and this author has yet to miss that mark when it comes to storytelling. It's a shame most of their works are one-shots, a lot of them deserve so much more than a chapter.

The Story of The Princess and The Little Mermaid

Complete | murasakino | 2000 released

As always, beautiful art and wonderful, unique story. I honestly didn't see the ending coming, but it was a fitting end for the princess, I believe. I've noticed that Murasakino likes to leave endings up in the air for most of their one-shots, but this one was pretty cut dry. As much as I wanted to give this a higher rating, I wanted to be fair and not rate it off of how much I love this author and more on what the story gives me. In the end, it was still a great story, just lacking in context here and there and the typical feeling I get when reading their works, I just didn't get from this one. For anyone wanting to read it though, you won't regret it nonetheless.

Ai wa Hito o Yowakusururashi

Complete | murasakino | 2019 released

Cute and easy to read one-shot, the characters as so nicely drawn and I love the color scheme used for the lighting. The story showed all too real realities of where our minds can take us when we're with someone we love. I really love the fact too that the lighter haired girl never gave any thought to what's real or what's fake until the dark haired girl asked her why she wasn't afraid because even if what they're watching is fiction, it can resonate with you and make you think about the people in your reality. It wasn't scary for the lighter haired girl until she saw her lover in that situation, that was so beautiful. Always love the storytelling from this authors short stories, they're always done so well. Definitely a simple, yet good read that surprisingly pulls on your heart strings just a tad bit at the end.

Kaerimichi

Ongoing | Shinoa (murasakino) | 2019 released

Had to give this one the dreaded 4 star rating because, personally, I'm not a fan of the "we both have feelings for each other but neither of us will say anything about it and continue to hurt each other" cliché. It's so overused and it's so hard to make a good, original story when that trope is the premise of the plot. Not to say that the read was boring, just predictable. I would love to see where they end up in the future, I know this particular author has a thing for tragic endings though so I should be a little relieved that their future is basically left up to the readers. I've read nearly all of the Mangas by this author available to me and they are easily a favorite of mine, the stories are always pleasant to read, the characters are cute, and the artwork is absolutely amazing, so coming from a biased standpoint, this story- even with the cliché- is still well written. I love all the tiny little twists the author puts in their work, it always has me going back to reread it when I've reached the end just so it gives me a different perspective. As always, beautiful work.

I Liked Your Bad Sides

Complete | Shinoa | 2019 released

Another wonderful one-shot by the author. This story hits me so hard because I can absolutely relate to the girl with the lighter hair. She fell in love with the girl with the black hair, she loved everything about her, her good and her bad sides, she genuinely loved her and accepted all of her, but once someone starts to change- even for the better- can you say that you love that person the same as when you first fell in love with them? This is such a heart wrenching story to me because I can sympathize with both sides, the darker haired girl because she wanted to become a better version of herself so she wouldn't worry the person she loves, and the lighter haired girl because those traits the dark haired girl is trying to fix are the very traits that made the lighter hair one love her truly, and she couldn't possibly tell her to stop fixing herself. She wanted someone to care for, I believe that's where her love came from, but when that's no longer needed, what's to be done? She was genuinely hurt to have to leave her, but leaving her would be for the best because if all she wanted was to be relied upon while the other person wanted to become more independent, their relationship was bound to have failed. Bittersweet love story, phenomenal storytelling, and breathtaking artwork, this one shot was a delight and heartache to read.

Caught Feelings for My Sex Friend

Ongoing | Namaniku | 2022 released

Really cute but dangerous concept for a story, let alone a one-shot. That "we both have feelings for each other but neither of us will make the first move to avoid getting hurt" trope is EXTREMELY outplayed in yuris to the point where it's hard to make a good story because the readers always know that to expect, but I have to admit, I really liked how it was tackled in this story. I'm positive it's just because this is a one-shot story, but the fact that these two characters didn't end up hurting one another by dancing around their feelings and not unintentionally doing or saying something that the other person got hurt by really struck me. Makes for a slightly less interesting story, but nonetheless it wasn't a bad read. The art was very cute, would love to see more from this author in the future.

The Name of my Feelings

Complete | Kang unnie | 2022 released

A well written yuri about a younger sister who is secretly in love with her older sister. While I can't say the premise of the story was anything original, it definitely was an entertaining read. I was a bit disappointed with how the ending played out though because I never really bought that sleeping cliché where they think they're still dreaming so they do whatever they want to the S/O. Sorry, regardless of how tired someone is, that's just not believable and makes for lazy writing, I believe. Still though, I had to give it 5 stars, maybe out of favoritism, because I really love this author and all of their works and despite the clichés, this still was a great read and a wonderfully written oneshot. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for something quick and spicy to read.
