My Childhood Friend Was a God
Magnolia (Sumiyoshi Ryo)
A beautifully written story that everyone can interpret in their own way. For me, it was about the egoism that is often connected to love, reminding me a bit of the song "The Willow Maid" by the astonishing Erutan, "if not mine, then no one will get you", "best I destroy you myself than let you be destroyed by someone else". For someone else, it might be about the sacrifice of destroying something you love to set it free. For others, the meaning will be different, but the openness for interpretation of this story is what makes it beautiful. The drawings are also breathtakingly splendid.
The Hands the Demon Adored
A beautiful story of a demon that collects body parts and a girl whose hands are so beautiful that he cannot resist. The bizarre plot that hides behind a story about kindness, acceptance, generosity of the spirit, and love. The story itself is not sweet or sugary, the characters have depths and the artwork is enjoyable. What more to wish? I actually shed some tears at the ending of this story so heartwarming it was. Strongly suggest reading it.
