To Take An Enemy's Heart
I've binge read this all night until almost noon, my eyes are puffed but my soul is replenished ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ I struggled for the first 15-20 chapters where I almost drop it because ooooh boy ! were the two main characters for one the epitome of foolishness, naivety and stupidity; and for the other the jerkest jerk ever ! But i'm so happy I stuck with them !!! After that this story has it all: incredible character development, great pace and story, drama, romance the kind you remember fondly and are sure will never happen to you but still (≧∀≦) ε=ε=(ノ≧∇≦)ノ (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ, tragedy, suspense, angst (oh so much angst !), comedy worth laughing out loud like a mad person on your own in the dark, tears from the inexistant heart, and heart-stopping confessions and love scenes (a lot !). Oh, I forgot to add the serious psychological issues of one of the main characters which probably leads to the obsessive possesiveness of their relationship but is really nicely portrayed and the creepyness is overseen by sarcasm and laughter, no big deal (=・ω・=) Haaaaa, i'm just glad I was stubborn enough not to drop it before the 20th chapter when the previous ones didn't please me at all, 'cause one should finish what has been started. Goes straight to my list of "beautiful pieces I read" and are re-read worthy !
Otoyomegatari
Very good story of multiple characters evolving in the very traditional and rural 19th century east to middle Asia. The pace is slow but it feels nice not to be rushed. The daily hurdles in the villages and clans (marriages, alliances, struggles around land ownerships etc...) are perturbed by the threat of foreign invasion. It's basically a very good slice of life with all the elements of life: family, friends, enemies, love, sadness, struggles, happiness...
See you later, Mermaid
Great story ! I was hooked all along and the art as well as the story are truly beautiful. I specially love the natural and fluid interaction between the characters. Nothing cliché, but rather genuine and honest. That's what I really enjoy ! It's expected between best friends and in balanced relationships, but only a few authors are able to convey it with accuracy and realism.
Yuki to Matsu
A very very good read. I love historical settings! A traditional doctor find à half dead yakuza young man in the snow and inadvertantly savez his life, though he would have rather a dead corpse. That's the start of their story. It's very well written ! The characters are unique and lovely, the pace is just right (you can read it in one go or come back to it, the pleasure is the same), it's fun sexy and still holds a lot of depth. It's just an intelligent and beautiful work, brilliant and one of a kind. There's this feeling of melancholy (?) all through it but It's not sad.... really it's a wonderful happy story, puntuated by life's dramas. I love it.
Flaver
A great yakuza/cop story ! I love no nonsense characters who are true to themselves, have clear understanding of all the trash that's going on and can take care of themselves. Adult men doing reasonable things to eachother and well balanced intriguing couples. Interesting dynamic !
Gokusen
This manga is so good I'm going to buy the physical copies asap because it's a MASTERPIECE ! One of my all time favorites. The story of a highly motivated and energetic newbie highschool teacher (also the heir of a famous yakuza household) in a delenquent highschool, and the story of how she manages to reach her hardened delenquent students beyond academic teaching. Everything is perfect, the heroin is badass intelligent and strong ad nice and kind and great Haaaaa . It's hilarious and it's a smart humour. The characters are all really lovely, dorky and relatable. So much fun
What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?
I had read the first chapter a long time ago but the male lead was so despicable in it that I didn't pursue. This time I brace myself ad continued and I'm sooo glad I did it ! The female lead is just great. She doesn't give in to his nonsense and doesn't let him drag her along. That's why I kept on reading, eventhough he was being a jerk. But even in manga we shouldn't juge a book by it's cover (though that's their exact purpose). He turned out just fine and the story is both fun and gets you emotionally invested. I couldn't stop reading for an entire afternoon+night. Great josei !
Usagi no Mori
I love their relationship ! It's sweet, honest and genuine. They just keep it simple and true ! Their personalities are so likable,I would like to befriend them. I would like to see more of this kind of stories. The script is perfect ! Thanks to the author who does an amazing job (I need to go support them officially) and to the people who brought this to us here Edit: it's not all cute and sweet though. The story deals with sexual abuse/overexposure and the trauma that ensues. The relationship between the two boys is complicated and shaky, eventhough they do care for each other...
