Hyung's manga / #Coming of Age(1)

Yatteraneeze!

Complete | Akizuki Koh,AKIZUKI Kou,KOIDE Mieko | 2000 released

A fine example of the quintessential 90s manga. Lmao, I feel like I have to preface this with that. I'm so fucking old I remember when this was still being scanlated. This was pretty representative of the mindset of the 90s homosexuality in Japan. So, you kind of have to think of that period of time when you're reading this. It's basically a coming of age story, one half about the struggles of accepting one's own sexuality vs what society expects one to be, while the other half is about maturing and getting out of an unhealthy life style as a young person before it's too late. There are parts of it that are skeevy as hell, especially when it comes to Masaki's older brother's friend (who's a cunt who should be thrown in jail), but there's also an exploration of relatable real life issues, like Masaki's big scare later on in the manga, which is very, very scary if you ever find yourself in that unfortunate situation. I could go on, but I remember being able to relate to this manga (in ways I usually don't when I read yaoi manga) when I was younger. So I definitely got a soft spot for this manga. But I acknowledge not everyone's going to like this for a few reasons that I could point out myself, but I'd rather have people judge the story for themselves. (I laugh at my Realistic tag because some parts are so laughably stupid but I still love it despite its flaws. Ugh, I wrote too much. Bye.)
