He has a fake engagement with the woman Ariel, the one his comrade said was Little Pearl. But during that night, Max came in disguise and they share a bed. After that, he decides that he wants to protect/save Max by asking him to run away at night in disguise before they attack. A carriage with one of his comrade (Cornell) who wait for him. Jean, along with Archduke Robert, invaded the imperial palace with an armed army and kill the Emperor. But he didn't know that Max didn't leave. So he got killed and that's when we discover that one of Jean's comrades (Cornell) was in fact one of Max's henchmen. Anyway, at the end he leaves with the Emperor's mistress and she gives him a painting that Maxi asked her to give it to Jean. The painting from the first chapters, where Jean is lying in the bed. Anyway, Max acted as a debauched and foolish prince while he was helping the revolutionaries behind the scenes.
