Affectionately
3.9-4.1, there’s a lot to be said about this one. The art style is very nice, very professional but original in that this definitely doesn’t seem like the creators first ever story but there are areas I simply don’t care for the attributed for this rating. Firstly, im a firm believer that a story of this genre can still have levels of depth as well as tension without the need to force characters onto each other. This is the exact reason why I always have a bit of distain and intolerance for the Ukes that are just a bit scatterbrained (example: when someone is feeling you up without consent and pressing their hard dick to your ass, you decide to pretend fall asleep?). I’ll refer back to this later. Second, I understand why it’s valuable to a plot to make all these characters into the Uke but it’s unfortunate that the Seme is so deeply nonchalant about his partner the Uke getting hit on to the point of getting hard because his own brother was trying to make moves. Third, a lot of people have mentioned this but yes this story is very choppy, it doesn’t flow and the ending does feel abrupt. Fourth, I’m relieved that there was no explicit r@pe but there was multiple points of SA, I appreciate that the story did the bare minimum of not using r@pe to propel the plot forward like most in this genre do but still there’s SA that forced the Uke to (as I mentioned in first point) pretend to be asleep AND kick a side character in the Johns. I often have to ask for stories in this genre, why does it have to get to that point? BUT to address the good traits, I understand that each component of the story not only plays a purposeful role in the creators vision of this story but in one way or another is what can not only cause development but also show how a character has grown/matured. In that regard, the behavior of the Uke, I can try to overlook. I still question certain characters roles such as the red head and the Semes brother (as I think the roles they played could’ve been done another way somehow) but again not my story/not my place, I see their purpose, they did their jobs, I’ll leave it at that. Another, about point three, I read the extra chapter translation of the Creators thoughts. I’m sad to hear that everyone’s comments are getting to them, this manhwa is genuinely not bad and has a lot of potential and already a lot to show for itself, but not all of these thoughts are wrong. I stand by the idea that the ending felt rushed and the story overall had poor sequence, the authors explanation is supporting these unanimous observations, they’re just explaining why it is this way. In that regard, I can say that I do NOT blame the author, they were put in a difficult unfair position by whoever advised them because no one should have forced anything to be shortened. If there was a full version that was unrestricted by any company man and 100% the authors creation, one that the creator felt comfortable about, I’d read it to give this a second chance.
My Yellow Curtain
4.9, I actually like this one, it’s equal parts funny and cute. I’d consider most actions they took to be consensual though it’s obvious the plants are the ones being non consensual as an accelerant for the plot so that neither of the characters are in that position. I was not expecting it to include tentacles, and was a little off put if they were going to allow the tentacles to go all the way (it went further than I wanted it to) but thankfully the Seme stepped in. The pacing isn’t too bad either, it’s a nice short simple plot, nothing too deep or complicated. I would reread again.
Ashita kimi no mono ni shite
5.0, this one is really cute in that this couple has such a pure overall tone. They’re illustrated very adorably without them looking too childlike and this adds to the character design that they’re both in the midst of their age of discovery. For this reason, I think the end of chapter four although it’s shameful and upsetting, being a vet of sorts of this genre allows me to know that compared to 90% of these other BLs, this is a better manga even with this scene than most. The Uke stopped the Seme before anything went past a kiss, im so very relieved knowing the creator decided to make that the cut off point. I wish it wasn’t a given that such a scene like SA or non consensual actions should be a part of this genre at all but lesser evil is that a line was drawn and they communicated well in the end. I’d reread this one.
Ijimeru Aitsu ga Waruinoka, Ijimerareta Boku ga Waruinoka?
5.0, I could reread this because it’s a very satisfying revenge plot and a break from the BLs or other romance genres I read. I enjoy revenge plots but don’t often read them because unfortunately a lot end with a change of heart and not much to show for it besides “the power of love and friendship heals ️
Devilish Voice
4.6, I rate this on the low-ish end thank most seem to simply because I think each story needed more. For the first couple, I’d like to see them grow from having a singular character being successful to the point of idolization to both characters being successful to that extent while still maintaining a healthy level of connection. It’d give me a full circle feeling of a story about maturity mixed with romance of green-flag proportions. The second couple, I actually think we’re perfect as is, im relieved that the trope of a third instigator antagonist wasn’t taken too far. I’d say he definitely harassed the second couple but didn’t SAY or grape or cause them to take a break in their relationship, this is a role that actually shows it’s purpose in proving how devoted the more tsundere Uke is. Very cool. (FYI the crossover of the 1st n 2nd couple was actually pretty cute). Third couple, definitely could’ve touched more in depth on their background, I’d love to see it. And allow for a slower confrontation into confession trope which words for a short series like this but still, even a slight slow mo of that progression would have been Goldilocks. Idk if I’d reread.
Tasogare Outfocus
100.0+, I LOVE IT! I’m sad I didn’t read this sooner but bless the anime trailer for it led me here ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ This is SO wholesome and cute, it’s quite a bit of reading compared to your average BL manga (ofc less than anything with 70+ chapters and ofc less than a novel). But it was necessary to make this level of depth, it was a beautiful composition of monologue with a nice flow. And it had the perfect mix of fluff to smut, I’d reread this one again and again T^T
Koiiro Soft Focus
100000+, a perfect one shot side story extra of my favorite green flag couple! The extra outfits the Uke uses in this one is a really pure clean cute way of trying to seduce the Seme, I love it, and ofc they still have a way to do these smut scenes with a true touch of romance.
Full volume
1000000+, over 120 chapters and it still leaves you wishing for more in the best possible way. In the “it’s-so-spectacular-I-never-want-it-to-end” type of way. Dare I say there’s no SA or grape despite this masterpiece having a main plot that involves a camboy being manipulated by a sketchy CEO who ends up serving time, making this already exceeding. But on top of that, there’s no toxic chosen miscommunication plot, the most that got dragged out was Beom unable to confront his feelings but even then the story sequencing did SO well in intertwining it with flashbacks that support is inability to confront his feelings because he’s never been taught how to let alone even seen anyone face their feelings head on in his life before Dowon. And although there’s so much smut, it’s all consensual and all of it is so unique. Despite so much smut, from the dialogue to each characters internal processing, the writing is unlike anything I’ve read. There’s a few spelling errors from translation to here but I can overlook the very minor few spelling errors because the writing is so on point, there’s a perfect ratio of silly comedic lines to deep existential lines that describe in an artistic way how love feels (both to love and to be loved). Plus the art? OMFG the art is superb, anatomically speaking, color speaking, expression speaking, all of it. 120+ chapters and I’d reread it again and again if I could. This is one of the few manhwa that without hesitation, once I can afford it, I will certainly support the writer, the artists, and the team as much as I financially can.
Lifelong
5+, this is really cute because I think it more accurately depicts how their dynamic is and prospers. A part of me would’ve loved another chapter perhaps that does a Katsuki POV where he becomes more accepting of being closer to Izuku but at the same time that’s a development that we sort of see more in canon so anyway- I’d reread this.
