Nichijou Climax
I usually don't like Established Relationships. The appeal of romance to me is watching people fall in love. This is an exception. It's sweet but for some reason it still aches. These two people who grew from childhood into adulthood together. Love incredibly familiar but they still need to communicate. They're just average joe's who adore the fuck out of each other and this is like a glimpse through their eyes at the other person. It's dorky and silly and beautiful.
Here U Are
Love between seriously flawed characters. It's beautiful and romantic. The way sexuality is handled here is extremely well done. Best I've ever seen actually. It does make it really annoying that characters keep saying people are 'straight' when they're clearly at minimum bisexual. You can only get away with the straight label if you're a Kinsey 1 unless you're in the closet. But still, it's really nice to see. The art is lovely and simplistic. Still packed full of emotion. The structure is interesting and different, very appealing. The story is all about love and takes no prisoners in that. A pleasure to read. Highly recommend it to anyone.
Saa Koi Ni Ochitamae
I don't even know how many times I've re-read this. Recommended for: people who like cute manga children. People who like cute manga and don't mind if they want to hit the characters sometimes. Please mind the warnings. The couple in this are very much teenagers. Still naive and temperamental in a lot of ways and trying to learn how to be grown up. This manga is a sweet/cute relationship between two boys of significantly different social classes. The theme the entire thing revolves around is growing up and learning to think more about the needs and feelings of those around you. In this manga, both the seme and uke have frequent communication issues they have to work their way through. But it doesn't end with them. Both the seme and uke will have to learn how to consider the needs of their families, how far their consideration should go, their own needs and how they fit in their culture. Even the brothers often have to learn this lesson among themselves. One of the things I liked the most was how the female students were treated in the manga. They weren't evil succubi trying to split the couple. They were reasonable and sweet. I usually don't mind the evil female trope, but I always appreciate when things are handled more reasonably. Some warning's 1. Rape (not penetrative) by seme. It makes sense for the plot as the seme is desperate to get it through to the uke that he's not only a sexual being, but a flawed, selfish human. He's trying to make himself 'real' because the uke only seems to see him as a fairytale prince. 2. The characters here are flawed. I don't usually warn for this because it's how good writing is supposed to work. But I feel I have to from other comments who don't seem to get it. You will have times when you're annoyed with these characters.
Nirameba Koi
Delinquent uke kicks ass. This manga is sweet and cute with almost no drama.
Shishi Mo Kobamazu
What a surprise! Despite the obvious deviation with consent issues at the beginning and communication problems, this is one of the most realistic depictions of a dom/sub relationship I've seen in a while. This is something that is actually difficult to convey and the mangaka here did it beautifully. It makes a nice change.
Gravity Eyes
Although this is a sequel, I didn't bother with the first manga and I don't plan to. Kyouya is the carry over character and, from the looks of it, has a big problem falling in love with people at a drop of a hat. The biggest problem with this is that he seems to always fall for someone he can't have. After a series of unfortunate events, he ends up living with a complicated teaching assistant Kiriya. In contrast, Kiriya has trouble opening up to people and giving himself over to love. Both characters have a dramatic history that affects how they relate to the world. The art is good. The plot is good. Pacing is irregular. It's clear here that Kyouya had other people he could have been happy with. Kiriya wasn't his once-in-a-lifetime and I think that's the point. All Kyouya wanted was someone he loved to love him back. And Kiriya was the perfect fit.
BL Game no Shujinkou no Otouto de Aru Koto ni Ki ga Tsukimashita
Regarding all the complaints about fetishization, I have a mind-blowing revelation for you all: Fetishization is not real. It's not a thing. Gay, straight, bi, trans, we all 'fetishize' people who would never in a million years have sex with us. People are just using scary terminology to try and shame you for something they do themselves. Hypocrites. You don't have to swallow everything people put on your plate. Try thinking for once. As far as the mc being a girl, I like how it's handled here. They don't feel like they still identify as a girl. Because of this, my headcanon is that they're gender fluid. As someone who doesn't feel particularly agro over gender, I actually like this portrayal. But even if your headcanon is different, there's no difference between this and a reincarnation fic where the previous life was female. I usually hate that because they use it as an out for BL. Like the ml only loving the male version because they loved the female version. That's not going on here. The love interests are attracted to men. Oh and the mc is a bit of a perv and listens to two guys having sex. Big whoop. Unless you consider the back of the cereal box to be manga I don't know how you got here, where you came from, or where you think you are Where this is going to fail for my tastes is if it goes with the canon ending. If it does an about-face and has the mc end up with a girl, I'm burning this to all hell. There is absolutely no justification for having the mc end up with a girl in a BL. The only reason I'm following this is because I trust that it won't have that ending. There is a very strong inclination towards one particular guy, and also to a harem ending. I'm ok with either. I'm not ok with the straight-washing of BL. Overall, you are not missing anything by skipping this one. It's a light, shallow BL that's easy to read and has little impact. So I'm not going to recommend people read it. I'm just going to say I'm enjoying it.
