Another Typical Fantasy Romance
I Will Politely Decline the Male Lead!
Second Life on the Red Carpet
Reincarnated as a side character from a novel she read in a previous life, Beadith finds herself at the princess's wedding, which marks the end of the novel. During the past seven years, Beadith lost her entire family, all the comrades she fought with in the war, and now she finds herself helplessly lost and wondering what to do, now that the plot has concluded. That night she drinks herself to sleep, but when she wakes up she suddenly finds herself thrown back in time; back to a year after her reincarnation, and before she lost everyone. However, she barely has time to process it all before she called to the palace by the imperial princess, Rosenne, who reveals that she also remember their past and will sacrifice her future love, if it means saving their country. Now, together, they must make plans on how to thwart the rebellion, save their families and stop tragedy from repeating. And it all starts with saving a certain marquis... __________________________ I am so excited about this story! It's got drama, action, romance, intrigue and badass female characters! Opposite what many other similar stories do, the ogfl is not made into an antagonist. Neither is she shallow, weak or unimportant. Instead the MC and ogfl are friends - and even though one holds greater status, they treat each other as equals. Not only that, they are the ones who drive the story forward. Love it! The ML is slightly cold in the beginning, but he has good reason to be cautious and suspicious of other people. He has a good heart and once he opens up, he treats the MC very warmly. Women in the story are also very supportive of each other. None of those annoying female antagonists who only exists so the MC will be "not like other girls". Very refreshing! Finally, this story handles a patriarchal setting exactly as I wished other stories would. I've seen stories with patriachal fantasy settings, where the mysogyny and sexism is not even addressed - or worse: romantisized. I've also seen stories where the setting it is merely used as a tool to show how strong or special she is, so she stands out from her peers - but as an exception, rather than an example. Neither is the case here. The setting has significance to the plot and the characters, but there is an underlying tone of hopefulness. That if women work together and support each other, if they fight for their goals and what they believe in, they can change the world for the better and show the way for future generations of women. It's exactly the kind of message I want to see, in the stories I read. All in all, I have almost nothing bad to say about this webtoon. 100/5 stars.
My In-laws are Obsessed With Me
Sasha is the daughter of a count. When her father dies, and his fortune is left to her, her stepmother and sister secretly collude with her fiancé to poison her to get her money. Only, on her deathbed she instead travels back in time. She quickly breaks it off with her lover but she also needs to do something about her stepmother. Since she doesn't know who in her household would take her side, she searches for protection outside the home. With a man... Ofc... She decides that the best way to gain protection and support is through marriage, and thus seeks out a partner He must be a man who had no greed for her fortune, no interest in her body and has power, and no one fits the description better than the gran Duke of the cursed Lapelle family. However, upon arrival she soon learns that this curse is not just a rumour and is in fact very dangerous. For when the Duke tries to dismiss her, after her sudden proposal, and she grabs his arm, he reflectively slaps her hand away and cuts himself on her ring. She accidentally touches the ring to her lips, and wouldn't you know it: It was poison. Yup. The duke's family literally have poisonous blood, which is their curse. But Sasha didn't die. Or actually, she did. But she revived again. Multiple times. So, now that she knows the family's secret and she also cannot die, he decides it's best to just give her what she wants and marry her. There is something inexplicably iffy about this story, and not sure what. Maybe it's the cringe intro of the story, where the family who poisons her to death, smear it in her face like psychopaths. Like, it's excessively staged. There is absolutely no reason that someone would admit to a dying person that they tricked and lied to them, never loved them, betrayed them and also was responsible for them dying - except for the reason, that the MC would otherwise be to gullible to realize that she was manipulated and murdered. It could also be the fact that the ML is either indifferent to or laughs at it, when the MC is displaying open fear towards him. Like, no words of reassurance or comfort. Nothing. Instead the FL magically realizes that everything is fine, and then is 100% fine all of a sudden. The story is not the worst I've read, though. It's mostly just a little cringe and unrealistic, not outright problematic. So I'll keep reading for now.
I’Ll Twist The Neck Of A Sweet Dog
Chloe loses her mother at a young age and is taken in by her abusive father and his family. Here she lives a worse life than a dog until she catches the eye of visiting Duke Kylos Ludwig. He saves her from the misery. Though it is only to put her through an entirely new version of hell. He raises her with false love and kindness, only to groom and manipulate her into becoming the weakness of his brother, the emperor. And she is deceived by his honey-coated words into loving him blindly. His plan proceeds without a hitch and the emperor falls i love at first sight with the young Chloe at her coming-of-age ceremony. She becomes his mistress and then the mother of his child - just like the Duke wanted. Ultimately she is used to lure the emperor into a trap and he is killed, and the Duke takes over the throne. Chloe is brainwashed enough to believe she feels nothing for the emperor and doesn't allow herself to mourn his death. However, something in her broke that day. And the only thing that could've healed her, is taken away from her: Her daughter. The heartache and loneliness leaves her shattered and ill, until a young knight takes pity on her. He helps her find and reunite with her child, but as the two try to run away, they are captured by the Kylos. The knight is killed, the daughter stolen away again and Chloe is locked up. This is when Kylos' spiteful wife comes to her and offers her poison. At this point Chloe has nothing left to live for, so she accepts it. However, instead of dying time is reversed back to the day after she spent her first night with the emperor. Now she has to figure out what to do: Repeat the miserable past in order to reunite with her child? Or change history, but lose the only family she could ever call her own? Or perhaps she is not the only one who remembers past events and want to change them... Omg. I can NOT understand why this story doesn't have a higher rating. It is *chef's kiss* ...or I actually do understand that some people would rate it low. It's definitely not a cute or fluffy story, and probably too dark for a lot of people. But I think that just makes it better. The characters are so realistic, complex and tragic. The storytelling is impeccable and the art is both beautiful and eerie. I can't wait to read more and hope the manwha will continue to uphold the same quality as the first 20 chapters!
Becoming The Villain's Family
Aria is the daughter of a siren, who was kept by a count to perform for him and his guests. When Aria's mother dies, it then becomes her turn. She sings her magical songs for the audience who are all enamoured - Including the emperor. The emperor becomes addicted to the siren songs and takes her as his own, puts her in a cage, breaks her legs, and forces her to sing until her life force is completely drained. Only then does a saviour show up: The young duke, who is known to be a devil. He cuts down the emperor and those who had imprisoned her and sets her free. But it is already too late. She can't walk because of her legs and her life is slowly running out, and so she dies in his arms. Though only to wake up 10 years into the past. This is a critical time, when her father, the count, has yet to discover that she's in fact not mute. She sings him a song to control his mind, and he takes her to the duke to sell her as the bride of the young heir. From then on she becomes a part of the duke's family, and though she has many scars that need healing, they slowly begin to accept and care for her. It happens sometimes that the art of the manhua is not on par with that of the promo, but I'm not sure I've seen the opposite until now. Beautiful art style! For now, not much is happening in the story - apart from the first few chapters. MC is a child at this point in the story and it will probably stay that way for a while. But hopefully we'll soon learn more about the ML, his family and the incident that makes him ruthless and murderous in the future.
