Drama Manhwa Romance Shoujo Collections ROMANCE SFP | SHOUJO SHOUNEN | MANHWA W 2000s Lie to Me (2004) First review + spoiler 2024: Overall rating: 21/10 The ML's past lover was a male crossdresser (the en tr used the term transvestite correctly and I think this should be stressed on because it has to do with the character building lol) who has the male reproductive organs so when they were about to do it, ML felt so betrayed by his then lover whom he thought was a woman, but this transvestite asked him to continue to which the ML denied sternly. What's the plot twist? You guessed it. The straight ML was raped by his then lover (transvestite). Shaken by the situation and broken, he left his apartment, refusing to stay as neighbors with his ex (transvestite). His ex stalks him so much that the ML has to change his contact details twice and moves to his friend's house. So ML's issue was he felt betrayed and traumatized by this experience because someone whom he loves was being very deceptive and went against his natural inclinations - to love a woman - which is as traumatizing when you're both in a vulnerable state and that transvestite was being predatory and deceptive just to get him to hit it. SO ML being traumatized by this is understandable. ML meets the quirky and funny girl who matches his energy lol they're adorable. The amount of back clapping done by this woman to protect the ML from his past lover (transvestite) is hilarious - she pretends to be a lesbian and confesses to the ML's ex lover passionately and that made the ex so scared that he flees from the ML's place LMAO THIS WOMEN IS SO WITTY SHE COULDN'T BE HELD BACK BY THIS LOVE TRIANGLE GENRE bahahahaha Anyway, the ML's apartment has 2 new tenants, if I'm not mistaken, which is the FL and her filthy rich best friend. Since the FL is so irked by the ML for not paying his overdue bills and not moving his stuff out of the apartment, she decides to confront the ML to get him to settle his bills and move his stuff from their (the FL and her best friend's) apartment. So FL is a bit selfish and crazy in some way because she never gives in when someone treats her the wrong way lmao the ML tries to run away from her after promising to settle the bills and all, so when the meet the next day the ML gets in his car and starts speeding away, so the FL chases him in a car chase on a busy street... She's a very irresponsible person though, not withstanding the fact that it's a first for her to drive and speed up on the road, she's also involved in this car chase action fi situation thanks to the ML lmao Obviously, nothing good will turn out when a sudden kid/boy appears in the middle of the busy road, so the ML swerves to avoid hitting the boy and crashes into an accident, losing his memory. FL was so bitter and vengeful so she decides to play a trick on him and level the playing field by admitting that she's the same age as the ML (she's in fact 2 years younger, so that's 27 lol) and created so many lies, misunderstandings and drama that could rival some soap operas ahahahaha Honestly, this is one of the best RomCom story. The FL is like one of the craziest screwball the ML has ever met, but she is also the one responsible for picking him up from his past trauma. I know male rape cases are hardly reported and if you see the underlying issues about masculinity, the ML struggles with this; the fact that he was raped by his lover whom he thought was a woman but turns out to be a deceptive transvestite. In the normal BL verse, a straight guy being raped by a deceptive transvestite seme (the suddenly dominant one in the relationship, doesn't matter whether the seme is the one receiving/giving meaning, bottom/top) will always have a redemption arc and get together in the end. In this shoujo manhwa/webcomic, this is by far the most realistic reactions any rape victims will be like when encountering their abusers - no one would be thrilled or shaken like a leaf because of love, no they'll be shaken like a leaf due to the PTSD kicking in and the fear and all that internalized emotions will swell up and show fear, wanting to be far away from their abusers as fast as possible. In retrospective, this is an excellent webcomic for illustrating the male view of dealing with their past sexual trauma (although it's just a short 1 volume manhwa); they lash out, and their lives are in shambles, lots of substance abuse to quell the pain/trauma by using alcohol to self-medicate, having cynical view of the world, and so on. This man, is hurting so bad until he meets the FL, who freed him from his abuser although legally, justice was never served. He didn't get the justice (which is sad), but he gets the closure from the FL's help. That screwball saved him from his hell. This is truly one of the best ending I've read about sexual violence done by an exlover. Despite not getting the justice he truly deserves, the FL found him and lifts him up. Truly, one of the best moments in this manhwa. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves to read thought provoking manhwa without the over sexualization of rape (no rape scenes that are turned into something like a fetish in smut scene). The manhwaga managed to deliver an amazing story without the expletives. Beautifully done!
