Something like Kafka's "Metamorphosis". His lover, very much in love with him, decided to stay with him, to support him, protect him and in the end save him. With his help, slowly will get better (at some point, at page 8, we learn that the life circle of the arm becomes shorter) and in the end be completely cured. But, like every treatment, it takes time and patience to win the disease, so what we see at this manga it's just one day during the process of the battle."
