Kiraboshi Dial

Complete | NATSUME Isaku | 2000 released

5 stars // This is it. If i could only ever read one BL manga for the rest of my life, this, is, it. I don't know why, it's such a short story, only six chapters, but maybe because of it's shortness that it gave me such feelings, that i could just re-read it over and over again and gush at this story. Natsume Isaku-sama is amazing, this story grasped so many things, both characters are simple yet complex, one had a tragic trauma of being trapped in a car with his dead parents to only later be betrayed by people who he thought were family, making his view of the world changed forever, that he won't be loved by people unless he gives something back, and to make things worse the accident made him claustraphobic meaning he couldn't go to many places, so he's stuck in this place where his trauma all began. And then you have the other, a doctor who had suppressed trauma himself of his best friend committing suicide and he felt like it was his fault his friend died, making him waver between quitting before the guilt overcame him or to try and move forward. It's just, oh how the stars have aligned and made them meet each other, though in the start not in the best of circumstances, they learned about each other and helped each other to separate and move on from the lingering traumas they had and move forward holding hands with each other. It's so heartwarming in the lightest way possible that when i feel a bothered by my own trauma, i read this to remind myself that like Sensei and the other people in the village, there are people out there that would still love me unconditionally, not a time is wasted reading this cute masterpiece, probably my favorite out of all the Natsume Isaku-sama's works! ╰(*´︶`*)╯

5 stars // I re-read this from time to time. It's really good, it's worth five stars, the story is light but there's still enough conflict to make it interesting, the progress of their relationship is also done nicely and we get a very interesting story for the second couple too! and of course, the sex is top-tier, seeing ukes with toned bodies is just, ugh /chef's kiss/

Eigyou Nika!

Complete | kanai kei | 2014 released

5 stars // Ugh i feel like this deserves MORE than just five stars, ten out of five stars! Eigyou Nika is just the perfect comfort manga for me, the characters are both very loveable, you just feel for Ayumu crushing on an "assumed" straight man and his chances of this crush being a mutual are almost zero. But it's not as angsty, Toujou is perfect, he's fucking perfect, the model boyfriend for EVERYONE. The story is also done very well pacing wise, it doesn't feel too rushed or too dragged and the ending is perfect, we all saw the marriage thing coming and we were prepared for emotional moments of heartbreak but instead it was turned to a confession. I admit i re-read this too much as somewhat of a safe place after i read other cruel mangas, it's just, so good.

4 stars // It was good! I haven't read one shots in awhile and this one is a cute warm up for more to come. A brief summary is that there's a dude who gets this erotic feeling whenever he eats good food and there's another dude who could only eat his own cooking because no other food is ever good enough for him. The premise is straight-forward and we're immediately thinking that "ah okay this is how they're going to end up" One thing about this that i wish would have been different is i kind of wanted the brown-haired dude to be the seme, it would've been a really interesting dynamic to see the usually so cold and quiet, scary-looking dude to be vulnerable only for the cheerful dude, but eh if that happened we wouldn't get the very fun sexual metaphors of sex and cooking which i enjoyed a lot.

Number Call

Complete | furuya nagisa | 2014 released

5 stars // I love this! I love Furuya Nagisa's slow-paced story telling, it's weirdly comforting and sweet. We are introduced to this person who hates his nickname, yet meets and falls in love with a person who has a similar nickname as him and always calls him by his nickname. Usually stories like this don't have a whole year timeline, but i kind of liked that, it showed that some people just need a lot of build-up, because we have to take into account that the people they are falling in love with is of the same gender, so there's so many things to think about, and i loved it. The realization of Eighto-kun that "ah, i like him more than a friend" and then Hachi's realization of "ah, maybe i love him after all" and the sweet confession on the rooftop, yes! And stories like this seems so so much cute and adorable if it's in a highschool setting because, you have all the time in the world, but also not really, they were racing against time since they're literally going to graduate (third-year problems ikr), and i was actually kind of panicking when Eighto-kun got held back jsjsj, ah i kinda miss my highschool life ♡(。- ω -)

Kore ga Koi na Wake ga Nai

Complete | SUSUKI Sonoichi | 2016 released

5 stars // Although i praised the main story for being light-hearted and did not go the dramatic route when they know they don't have to, i actually prefer this spin-off a lot more. The start of this story is already hella dramatic since we have a gay man with trauma behind him as a main character, it's bound to just get more and more heavy as the story goes. I get Iida, it's scary to be rejected by someone you thought would accept you, worse when that person is the one you had feelings for and got not only rejection but also humiliation, that must've taken one hell of a toll on his character. Though, that didn't give him a pass to make forced moves to Asahina, he's still an asshole for that, but i think with a little bit of "talking it out" it could be resolved, so i like Iida, I understand his desperation, I too would be head over heels for Asahina. Then we're introduced to Yanagi, and i love this son of a bitch, from the moment he showed up i was already wheezing, masochistic tops are such interesting creatures! ٩(◕‿◕。)۶ To be honest i have always thought about this "straight x gay" trope because it's so weird, because yes, maybe if it's not Iida, Yanagi wouldn't be attracted to any other dude, but would he? how could we know about that? maybe Iida woken up Yanagi's homosexuality, so that would technically mean Yanagi is bisexual now? or Pansexual? If he falls in love with Iida because he is Iida, and not because he's lusting for a man, Pansexual? IIdasexual? But eh, to be honest i don't really like labeling myself either since i never really know my sexuality either, so. As for the story goes, i like how complex it is-- to me it's not that dramatic to the point where i cry, but i was kind of visibly upset when Iida told Yanagi to end things between them because WHY would you go and do exactly what a straight girl who's the ex of your current fwb told you to do? It just felt very unlike him to listen to someone he doesn't even know that well, but again it's understandable because i think Iida was just scared to fall in love for another "straight" dude (truthfully it's always so weird because Yanagi clearly would take a bullet for Iida and even ended things between him and his ex the moment he's getting it with Iida, like he didn't two-time him and treat Iida as like an experiment to see if he's gay or not that boy is hEAD over heels for this really troubled third-year who needs therapy) and thus backed away before his feelings developed more but SIKE, it has already developed so much. The resolution was my favorite because we get to see them both be vulnerable, without their guards up and really, really talking things out; Iida's horrible past, the reason why he hates people like Yanagi, Yanagi's reasoning, the adorable blushing Iida asking "should we date?" and the hug afterwards, it's just such a heartful. Oh and also, a fucking timeskip of them living together living their best lives at their respectful jobs together? Are you fucking kidding me? That's so fucking adorable, what the fuck? I love it when high-school couples grow old together and be the domestic full of love couples that they are, especially after such a rocky road to get where they are, hhh. I love it.

No Color

Complete | natsume isaku | 2005 released

5 stars // Again i am here announcing my ever-lasting love for Natsume Isaku-sama's works, but damn do they deserve it. This one in particular sits in one of my most favorites of her work and BL in general because again-- It's so good, it's so light and everything is just so nicely put together. We're introduced with a studyholic bothered by his neighbor who apparently is fucking noisy, drinks a lot, and causes inconveniences to him since they're only separated by a wall. One day, the dude's apartment fucking wrecked and thus making him not have a place to sleep, thus making the landlord lady force the studyholic to let this noisy dude stay for a couple nights with him. We start from there. I love how naturally it just progresses? It's not like an instant "the moment they stayed the night together, sex ensues" and then they try to build something out of that, no, nothing happened but them getting to know each other and try to build some sort of connection to one another. I especially loved and appreciated it even more since Iida actually knew Sakamoto from way way before and went through all the trouble of trying to find him, so in that first night together, his feelings were already there, but nothing happened. I seriously love when we're just sitting, reading through, anticipating, and then got rewarded with satisfying resolution. The build-up to the conflict was nice too; Not seeing each other for awhile made Sakamoto realize that he, too, has fallen. And seriously the words of this manga?? A person whose visions of the world are limited to only that that fit people's expectations of him, and a person with a big and broad view of the world, chasing after someone that he wants to show the world to, bitch a girl is crying in the corner. I think with Natsume Isaku's works, the sex feels like, it's weird to call it a reward but something like a result of them acknowledging their feelings for one another and are ready for that next step, so while i do sometimes enjoy cultured reads of lightsabers everywhere, i almost kind of prefer the soft ones where they just love each other so much. And also Iida is so fucking smitten, and honestly, holy shit? To be able to even form the kind of words of "I wont say 'we've got time', just that 'what time we have', 'we'll spend it together" BITCH I AM CRYING?!?! That's so sweet! It's so simple-minded but i was so swayed by it i had to take a breather. All in all, yes, go read this, an absolute five stars, ten stars, it's so cute, it's light, it'll make your heart full and would just make you want to cuddle your significant other for awhile because you're so overwhelmed by the cuteness, if you're single, hug your pillows soldier! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

Tight Rope

Complete | natsume isaku | 2008 released

5 stars // I'm a sucker for gang family stories like this! Especially the ones that stick to their traditional gang cultures more rather than the more modernized/western ones, they just hit different, the culture you know? As expected with Natsume Isaku sensei's works, we're introduced with two interesting (that keep on being interesting) characters; one is the fifth heir to a very powerful yakuza family, and the other one is a childhood friend who's family has been friends and taking care of the yakuza family, even one of the family members is also a part of the gang and holds an important position. And let me just confess my love for Naoki for a moment here-- i love his character! He's the cool-headed type and genuinely cares for Ryuu, but his feelings towards Ryuu are cloudy because he doesn't know if he cares so much because Ryuu is a childhood friend or because he has grown to love being beside him. My heart was hurt when i read his inner monologue thinking that when Ryuu eventually takes over as the fifth leader, he might get into more and more dangerous situations, getting himself hurt, and one day, he might die for real. Oh that hurt ( ╥ω╥ ), and that was i guess, the trigger for Naoki realizing his true feelings, and i love how he decided to make sure he's always by his side by doing the traditional gang initiation ritual, he's so cool, /swoon/ (⁄ ⁄>⁄ ▽ ⁄<⁄ ⁄) For the story, quite frankly it's very simple-- didn't really dive into actual gang business and more into the outer aspects of it (?) familial aspects if you will, I like that there was at least a bit of build-up, but the peak act where Naoki got kidnapped feels very lax for such an important moment, it was saved by that bitchass motherfucker Nishi though, it's so weird for me to say this because i don't wish this upon anyone but if Ryuu didn't see Nishi trying to assault Nao the result of the build-up wouldn't probably be that good. I like it when both of them are strong fighters, so they protect each other and not only a one-sided protecting (which shoujo mangas are usually guilty of, i swear to god the heroine is always so meak and getting kidnapped all the time it's annoying), even though i have to say that again, the peak conflict of this manga where Naoki suddenly couldn't beat up one (1) person that literally has the same body weight as him, it was kind of a cop out, but eh, i could overlook it since i'm already grateful that Naoki isn't some shoujo manga heroine in a dude's body. There was never really a resolution to this since they were already pretty clear and straightforward from the very beginning, they just need a little push to get to the end of the story. This thought just hit me but i guess the reason why i love Natsume Isaku sensei's works is because i love the uke characters way, waaay more than i love the semes, they always have such interesting personalities that just makes me want to read them again and again, Naoki is probably in my top three favorite Natsume Isaku characters in general he's so, so cool σ(≧ε≦σ) ♡
